Your immune system works day and night to defend your body. An army of specialist cells are on hand to target and destroy pesky invaders - whilst leaving your own cells unharmed.
In the video above you can see Memory T cells (green) moving across skin. Memory T cells patrol barriers in case of re-infection by a similar pathogen.
Researchers at the Babraham Institute are trying to understand how the different immune cells develop and work.

Some species of moray eel (such as this undulated moray, Gymnothorax undulatus) have evolved a resistance to the venom of one of the deadliest creatures in the sea, the banded sea krait.
These morays can withstand doses of sea krait venom that would slay lesser creatures (and men).
Morays can inflict grievous wounds on sea kraits, and large eels have been known to actually prey on the snakes—a case of the hunter becoming the hunted.
Those teeth are not just for show.
(Venom resistance or not, though, some guys are just plain unlucky.)

Salk Institute researchers have just given us all a new view of immune cells using super-resolution microscopy. The images above show T-Cell receptors during an immune response, and are the first pictures to show this process in lymph nodes. Every new image and discovery in this field gets us closer to a more total understanding how our body’s immune system works, and perhaps how to apply our own immunities to treat autoimmune diseases, infections or cancer.
“We had seen these receptors cluster and reposition in cultured cells that were artificially stimulated in the lab, but we’ve never seen their natural arrangements in lymph nodes until now,” says senior author Björn Lillemeier, an associate professor in Salk’s Nomis Laboratories for Immunobiology and Microbial Pathogenesis, and the Waitt Advanced Biophotonics Center.

So basically, 2/3 of Americans can be brutalized by Border Patrol with no legal recourse.
