Royal Baby News

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of the baby boy. William and Kate’s baby was born Monday 22nd July at 16:24 and weighs 8lbs 6oz.

No news yet of the name of the baby, through history it has been weeks to months before the name has been revealed but a couple of statements have been made; first the offical royal statement that Katherine and the baby are healthy and doing fine and the second statement came from the doctor who delivered the royal baby - “Wonderful baby, beautiful baby”.

The new member to the royal family is now third in line to the throne, which has created an historic moment for our monarchy.

Congratulations!

“I wonder what happens if the ruling monarch changes religion. For example the King of Jordan becomes Buddhist, the Queen of Denmark converts to Islam, the King of Thailand says he’s now Jewish etc. Do they have to step down? Do they do a Henry VIII? Will their countrymen simply kick them out like Mary, Queen of Scots? The possibilities are endless.” - Submitted by Anonymous

25 July 1603

James VI of Scotland was crowned King of England and Ireland on this day in British history, 25 July 1603, becoming James I. Although the kingdoms of Scotland and England were individual sovereign states, each with its own parliament, judiciary, and law, James brought about the Union of the Crowns, a union of the states (including Ireland) under the same monarch. James would continue to sit on all three thrones until his death in 1625. England and Scotland were not brought under unified parliamentary rule until the Acts of Union of 1707, with Ireland remaining a separate kingdom that was subordinate to England until 1784.

Sālote Tupou III 1900-1965

Sālote Tupou was queen regnant of Tonga in the early 1900s. She was a very tall woman at 6ft 3in and ascended the throne at the age of 18. She married Viliami Tungi, this marriage united feuding dynasties. She ensured the mapping of Tonga archeological sites which led to in depth studies of Tongan history. Sālote also wrote dance songs and love poems such as Lakalaka.

Sālote brought international recognition to Togna when attending the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in London. She was seen as an endearing figure when she rode through the streets in an open carriage happily waving in the rain.

She died in 1965 and was deeply mourned by her people. Her body rests in Tonga.

Oops Caucasians forgot to whitenized this…

Coronation of Pharamond From Chronicles of France and St. Denis of John the Good. Royal 16 G vi, f. 3 (1332-1350)

add info: The miniature at the beginning of the prologue of the coronation of Pharamond illustrates the theme of royal succession, which is present throughout the manuscript. Pharamond was thought to have been the first king to unite Frankish lands under one rule. Here Pharamond is accompanied on his right by a pagan prince. On his left are two kings who will succeed him, each wearing a blue mantle embellished with the motif of the golden fleur-de-lys, the symbol of French monarchy.

habtrashery:

“In The Wee Free Men, the village has a tradition of burying a shepherd with a piece of wool on his shroud, so that the recording angel will excuse him all those times during lambing when he failed to attend church — because a good shepherd should know that the sheep come first. I didn’t make that up. They used to do that in a village two miles from where I live. What I particularly liked about it was the implicit loyalist arrangement with God. Americans, I think, sometimes get puzzled by people in Ireland who call themselves loyalists yet would apparently up arms against the forces of the crown. But a loyalist arrangement is a dynamic accord. It doesn’t mean we will be blindly loyal to you. It means we will be loyal to you if you are loyal to us. If you act the way we think a king should act, you can be our king. And it seemed to me that these humble people of the village, putting their little piece of wool on the shroud, were saying, “If you are the God we think you are, you will understand. And if you are not the God we think you are, to Hell with you.” So much of Discworld has come from odd serendipitous discoveries like that.”

I love how many people truly think they would have participated in revolutions and shunned monarchies and then they turn around and they’re just like, fangirling modern day billionaires

Like, *maybe* you wouldn’t have been Lafayette, my man.
