headcanons about Tony Stark’s science children (Peter, Harley, & Shuri)
they’re all bffs
Shuri is by far the most competitive of all of them, and her main rival is Tony (he can’t turn down a challenge one of his science children gives him)
they all come to the lab on Thursdays and weekends, even though Harley and Shuri don’t live in New York, which is why they invented portal technology
Shuri knew Peter was spider-man since her first week in the lab (she literally saw him jump out the window and web swing away when he thought no one was watching)
Harley took a while to get it, and Shuri tried everything to get him to find out, like asking him to get her a screwdriver that happened to be in the same drawer as Peter’s web fluid (Harley didn’t notice the web fluid) or pointing out how Peter had an piece of blue and red clothing sticking out of his bag (“he probably just likes spider-man and that’s his halloween costume” Harley said)
eventually Harley found out… when Peter trusted them enough to tell them he was spider-man. (Shuri: I’ve known for months.Harley: omg you’re spider-man????)
now Shuri regularly makes fun of Harley for this. He gets back at her for making fun of her being a princess and bowing when she walks into the lab, even though she’s told him a million times not to
even though they make fun of each other, the three of them are very supportive and are always there for each other. If Peter has a rough day he knows he can trust Harley to comfort him and Shuri to cheer him up with meme references. If Harley has a rough day he knows he can trust Peter to listen and be there and Shuri to give him advice on what to do to feel better. If Shuri has a rough day she knows she can trust Harley to distract her with a cool invention and Peter to give her a hug and remind her he’s always here to talk
they have a group chat and its the most chaotic thing you can imagine, and no matter how many times Tony asks, they refuse to add him
they’ll all skip school (or Shuri will skip royal duties) without a second thought on Avengers Tower monthly prank day. the avengers know to fear them
Peter and Harley have a great time introducing Shuri to American things and Shuri loves introducing them to Wakandan things
Shuri and Harley drink tea but Peter likes coffee so Harley started a joke of replacing Peter’s morning coffee with tea without him noticing
they love to help with each other’s projects
usually they’re all working on technology that will improve the world in some way and since they’re apprentices of Tony Stark they get invited to do interviews a lot and they have so many inside jokes that like half the interview would get edited out because nothing they talked about made any sense
they all have favorite avengers of the og6 (besides Tony of course, he’ll always be their most favorite). Peter’s is Thor, Shuri’s is Natasha, and Harley’s is Bruce
And all the avengers have a favorite science child, but they pretend they don’t

A/N/N: Shuri’s age and her status as Bucky’s doctor at the time of this fic was brought up. This fic is set just prior to the events of TFATWS, so she is an adult now (around 20, since she was dusted in the Snap along with Bucky.) Bucky’s supposed age, given the cryo-freezing, is around 30, and we are considering them both adults for the purposes of this fic. Shuri is also no longer his doctor, she hasn’t been in that position since the trigger words were removed. Hope this clears some things up, and if this is still a squick for you, please just do us all a favor and bypass this one.
The fact that he didn’t address Shuri as her highness or Princess goes to show the familiarity he has with her. I only hope we can see this bond explored in black Panther 2 because it’s time for the white wolf to take his place with the Wakandans.

I love Ayo so much but Shuri should have been in this scene. Shuri should have been with him saying the words. Shuri should have been there to hold him when it was all over. I feel robbed.
Are You Mad That Shuri Is The New Black Panther Because You’re Worried About Legacy, Or Is It Misogynoir?
In a recent statement, Marvel announced that they’ll begin shooting the second part of the MCU’s Black Panther next summer, and Shuri’s character (played by Letitia Wright) will be taking on a more significant role in the franchise, likely as the new Black Panther herself.

Yes, Black Panther may be a Black woman, and bros, hoteps, plus misogynoirist men alike are in their feelings about it.
I initially tried to be patient about any scrutiny toward the announcement considering why the change is being made. Many of us are still coping with Chadwick Boseman’s tragic and untimely passing, myself included.
Then I read the complaints and realized that a lot of the upset is around Letitia or Shuri taking on the role and Black Panther no longer being a man.
Countless men shared that they’d be O.K. with T'Challa’s son Azari stepping forward as his heir (Storm hasn’t even been introduced to the MCU, so the idea that T'Challa could’ve somehow met her and had a child who is now an adult between parts one and two is unrealistic.) or Erik Killmonger, the deceased character who nearly DESTROYED Wakanda, some even touted the idea that using a different man altogether, would be a better fit than the Princess of Wakanda and smartest character in the MCU.
Is it always anyone but Black women?
It’s evident that their issue isn’t with the role being filled by another character, but that it may go to a Black woman specifically.

There’s been a lot of talk about “legacy” in the past year or so, usually framed within a patriarchal context, with a focus on a man’s acquisitions and his son’s inheritance, or the idea that as femmes, girls, and women, part of our life’s work is to protect and preserve the material “legacies” of men – even at our own expense.
Sometimes this looks like shaming us when we attempt to claim the fruits of our labor, asking for more, or being gifted an inheritance as beneficiaries of Black empowerment. I think that’s the case here; critics don’t want Shuri to be Black Panther because they don’t value or prioritize Black femme representation, and they don’t respect the contribution of Black women like Letitia Wright.
Furthermore, you weirdos never want Black women to have anything ever, especially if we haven’t slaved for it.
Shuri is the smartest character in the MCU. She innovates technology that protects her kingdom, is T'Chaka’s only daughter and rightful heir to the Wakandan throne. Shuri becoming the Black Panther is also canon in the comic book series. Why wouldn’t she be next in line as the Queen Of Wakanda?
Many of those who cheered in support of Chadwick Boseman giving part of his salary from the film 21 Bridges to Sienna Miller are outraged by the thought of Letitia Wright playing Black Panther. (Interrogate why you feel this way,) why the thought of Chadwick wanting to pass the role to Letitia, a Black woman, is somehow too difficult to comprehend, despite his work and character showing that he cared deeply for the Black women he knew and worked with and would likely be in support of this change.
Ask yourselves why you’re truly angry about a woman becoming the new Black Panther because Black femme empowerment isn’t what’s ruining Black image and legacy; your sexism and misogyny is.

The sound of T'Challa’s low, rich laughter bloomed warm in her chest. Yesterday, in the company of Sam and his sister Sarah, she appreciated their dynamic more than felt jealous of their closeness. Today, however, listening to her brother’s voice, seeing something tall and leafy blowing in the wind behind his head, produced a few pangs of homesickness. Leaning a little heavier against the wall behind her, Shuri scanned the cafe. Wakanda had many establishments like it; she used that familiarity to push back encroaching ennui.
“I have appreciated the images you sent, particularly that red barn —so quaint and quintessentially American.”
“I know, right?”
“I was surprised, but pleased to see that Peter Parker and the young woman I do not know were at the Avengers Facility to greet you. As I understand it, Peter is not active with the Avengers. He’s finishing up at University.” Her brother reporting those mundane details gave Shuri pause, although she wasn’t yet sure why, “Riri Williams —she goes by Iron Heart. She’s like Peter in that she’s a protege of Stark’s.”
“Yes, that makes sense,” T'Challa said.
What didn’t quite add up Shuri realized, rolling back the tape of her memory of Peter’s odd behavior at the Facility; his skittish, nervousness that never quite dissipated, compared with a sibling-like ease with Riri and nerdy nonchalance around Bucky and Sam. And here was her brother, admittedly someone whose job included keeping strategic tabs on the world’s shakers and movers, (especially empowered ones), aware of the minute details of a young person yet to win an official place on a (so-described) superhero team. Of course Shuri and T'Challa knew Parker’s masked identity, thanks to the war, but he wasn’t out to the world.
“Would you ever consider taking Peter Parker on as an R&D intern?” Shuri asked her brother on a whim. “He worked closely with Tony Stark before his passing.”
T'Challa squinted and placed a hand over his mouth the hologram, “Hmm. It’s an interesting proposition and one I’ve considered. His attachment to Queens and New York City is strong. Stark attempted to entice him to MIT, but Parker chose Empire State University to stay closer—“

“On ice,” Shuri thought to herself.
It was a description, a phrase, a saying she knew, certainty. Sure, she’d grown up hot and warm —sun-touched and sun-loved— but Shuri knew ice. She was familiar with the mountains, the edge of Wakanda where the Jabari Tribe had long-ago retreated.
When necessary, Shuri wore knits and wools and furs to ward off the fingers of ice that would freeze her skin, pierce her sense of comfort, of warmth. Shuri didn’t let ice go unchecked, unquestioned. She preferred her ice in a tray featuring sixteen rectangular slots. Under shrimps, beneath oysters, mussels, and surrounding clams, ice served a vital role. In a glass, ice appealed, partnered with citrus fruit and maybe CO2 —bubbly, icy, ephemeral delight.
Ice was a treat, and ice could treat. It offered an antidote to bumps or scrapes or punches. As second child, daughter of royalty, Shuri had been taught how to protect herself with fists, a wooden staff, shooting weapons, her voice, and her brain. She was no stranger to ice wrapped in a soft cloth, pressed against her eye, elbow, knee.
No stranger but how shockingly, awfully, bone-rattlingly strange to look upon her brother’s —the King’s— dark body struck down, unmoving; laid out on ice.
Harley, calling Peter at 5 in the morning after staying overnight with Pepper and Morgan: I think we’re gonna have to limit Morgan’s time with the princess.
Peter: Why? You’d have to ask Pepper.
Harley: All she does is teach her pop culture phrases, and they’re kind of—
Morgan, bursting into Harley’s room: Rise and grind my dudes, let’s eat today’s ass!
