Trans kids and parents of trans kids living in Texas: The Governor just issued a dangerous order declaring all forms of gender affirming care as child abuse under existing law.

Under this directive, all persons working with children, including doctors, teachers, counselors, and caregivers, are required to report any child believed to be transgender or face prosecution. Parents may have children removed from their homes and placed in state custody.

This is an extremely dangerous situation. Parents of trans children: leave the state now. The user below has offered assistance to those looking to get to a safer place. Please reach out to her if you need to. Important information will follow.

Please be safe out there, all of you. I love you and I am so sorry these things have come to pass. Let’s get through this.

I would personally like to urge those currently working in law in the state of Texas to begin fighting this directive immediately. Trans children and their parents will no doubt need legal representation as the fallout from this begins to emerge. If you are under threat from governor Abbott’s order, I encourage you to reach out to the ACLU of Texas at this url:

To those living in Texas, whether you are in the line of fire or not: now is the time to begin contacting your representatives. You can find who serves your county using this web form:

https://wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home

If you know anyone who could be endangered by this order, check in with them. Give them your support and be there for them. I’m standing by if anyone out there needs a signal boost for their situation.

Again, hang in there and be safe. When threats like this come out, sticking together and protecting one another is crucial.

Here is a consolidated list of the current gofundme’s from the parents of trans kids who need immediate relocation from the state of Texas.

Finally, here are some resources for young trans Texans who are no doubt fearful of the current situation. I love y’all so much.

Today is transgender day of remembrance. I’m sure plenty of people are seeing posts go by about remembrance, better said than I could manage- and so, I’d instead like to ask people to spare a thought for the lives, work and struggles of people still living, too. It’s a commonly repeated refrain that it is easier to “remember” the most vulnerable among us once they are gone than it is to pay them mind when they’re alive. It’s also very true.

Want to help people still alive? Particularly groups helping those who face the brunt of violence, such as transgender women of color? Check out these places:

  • Lambda legal (committed to LGBT and HIV+ legal work, does trans outreach specifically)
  • Trans lifeline (suicide hotline by and for trans people in the US)
  • Sylvia Rivera law project (campaigns broadly on trans rights and provides resources)
  • Mermaids UK (UK charity that supports trans youth and their families)
  • Sparkle (the UK’s biggest trans charity)

trans-matters:

• Does it hurt to take a deep breathe? Yes? Then it’s too Tight

• Do you feel dizzy? Yes? Too tight

• Do you have bruising and is it sensitive to the touch? Yes? Too tight.

• Do you have pain for several hours or days after binding? Yes? Too Tight.

The news has been rough.

So we want to drop a reminder to share our Get Help page, a database of over 1,000 resources and orgs that serve LGBTQ+ youth that you can filter by issue and location.

️‍⚧️ Plus, we have a list specifically for trans/gender non-conforming youth resources.

Remember: you’re valid, you’re strong, you belong here.

I realized I’ve talked a lot about “educational resources” about trans people, but haven’t recommended any specific resources? Well,,

uppercaseCHASE1 has a fantastic Trans 101 series that’s perfect for educating cis and trans people alike about stuff like:

“What is transgender?”, terminology, pronouns, gender dysphoria, social legal and medical transitioning, different types of surgeries, HRT, etc.

There’s over 30 videos and they’re all fantastic, I highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t already!

gendercensus:

[Link to survey]

The eighth annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 10th March 2021.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, retweet this tweet, boost this Mastodon post, check out this post on Reddit, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks like Facebook. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 24,000 responses last year.

Survey URL: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/gendercensus2021/

The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.

Thank you so much!

Just so yall know, there’s a great website called transbucket where people can post before and after pictures of their top and bottom surgeries with info on who their surgeon was, what the cost was, how they like it, and a place for more detailed comments. It’s free. U gotta create a login to view the pictures and post, which is kinda nice for privacy reasons. Oh and I think it’s mostly for americans, but I could be wrong

pls reblog this so other ppl can see it

fatmasc:

If ur like me and driving urself crazy trying to find a top surgeon but ur fat then look at transbmi. Its a short list of surgeons with high or no BMI limit (some surgeons are listed as having an unknown limit - be extra wary of them as they dont guarantee a high limit)

So like if you’re transgender or considering transitioning I would 110% recommend getting a job @ starbucks! I just got off the phone with our HR benefits center & basically the most I’ll have to pay for anything involving transitioning is $5,000! That includes hormone replacement therapy, facial feminization surgery, top surgery, bottom surgery, therapy, laser hair removal, voice therapy & some other shit! With my plan I get 70% coverage w/ a $650 deductible or something like that! Idk I’m just really excited & relieved that I’m not gonna have to make a go fund me or take out any loans or anything like that

Mind you ffs can run you about $40,000 & srs is $23,000 @ the cheapest!
