LIVE

Today, October 10, we celebrate #WorldMentalHealthDay! Yes. It’s okay to admit that you’re not doing alright. It’s important to acknowledge those feelings than push them aside.

But let’s be more hopeful that this period of not being okay doesn’t last forever. And one day, all shall be well.

“The children of mentally ill parents have unique emotional hardships and face an increased risk of developing mental health disorders. When the parent’s illness creates disturbance in the home, but is not openly acknowledged and explained, the impact is even more troubling. Many of us grew up in a prolonged state of distress that triggered our own instabilities. There are parts of us that never felt safe, stories we were too afraid to tell. As children, we were disoriented and confused because we didn’t understand our parents’ behavior or how to respond to it. We had to master the art of keeping secrets. As adults, guilt becomes a weight on our backs as we mourn the relationships we didn’t get to have with our parents. Too many people go through this labyrinth feeling alone and ashamed like I did. We can’t heal what we won’t talk about. We can’t stop a cycle that we pretend not to see.” #worldmentalhealthday

i’m so immensely grateful and happy that people and influencers like mitch exists. this note/letter has more impact on us than he’ll ever imagine, there are so many out there including myself that can relate to this.
him showing that he’s real and he’s human, that life isn’t a bed of roses for ANYONE… how important it is to face mental illness instead of ignore it. mental illnes never is a joke and should be taken seriously.

i couldn’t ask for a better role model.

Day 3 | World Mental Health Day!

Did you know that having access to nature can reduce stress and improve your mood? Think about how much better a work or living environment can be when you have a direct view of nature and natural light. Our project is providing just that for Project Horshoe Farm. Currently, there is no outdoor space for participants to enjoy fresh air during the day programs, or for kids to have activities outside on a nice day.

With your help, we can provide Project Horseshoe Farm (our client) a flexible and inviting courtyard that fosters social interaction within the community in a safe and beautiful space.

#worldmentalhealthday
I was pretty hesitant to make this a drawing, I know it’s dark, but its something I think about constantly. I struggle A LOT with negative self-talk. Sometimes I imagine if someone heard some of the things I say to myself about myself, they’d think I’m sadistic. It’s something I am so so aware of and have had to confront many times. it’s held me back, it’s driven me to depression, it’s kept me up at night etc etc etc. I’m still actively working on this, and I am by NO MEANS even close to eradicating this problem of mine. I’m really lucky to have friends and family out there (and a therapist :) who remind me to be kinder to myself, to give myself some grace. Buuuut, I know that this is a ME problem, and i need to seek affirmation from within myself. not there yet, but I know a lot of people out there may be told everyday that they are wonderful (which they are!) but don’t believe it themselves. I get it and I see you! Let’s try to be kinder to ourselves. xx @bykellymalka
