Message # 12

God: Athena

Time: 9:17 pm

When walking alone at night, feeling uneasy, Athena spoke a single word to me; “Careful.”

I then viewed images of combat.

I got home without incident.

lyre-and-laurel:

My parents don’t know anything about my spiritual practices. It’s not out of fear, I just prefer to keep that private from them. They’re very open minded and well educated, I just don’t feel the need to talk about my spirituality with them. ‍♀️

So I called them earlier today to wish them a merry Christmas and I asked my dad what he was reading lately. He said he’s re-reading the Odyssey, then went on to describe the part where Athena disguises herself as a beggar to visit Telemachus, and how great Athena is and how much my dad loves Athena…

My dad’s a non-religious Jew and, while he’s pretty well read on history, including Ancient Greece, he has no spiritual connections to the religion that I’m aware of. So this was totally unprompted.

All of that is to say: ok Athena, I see you gurl

piristephes:

The Gods of War and me.

I really feel like Ares was around me a lot during Noumenia, he’s seen how angry I am at the world - the injustice, the endless deaths on the pandemic and the human idiocy overall of it. May the Lord of War help me understand myself better and guide me to were I reallyneed to put some effort to make a difference in the battles that need me the most - which invites wisdom, and on this Tritogeneia(monthly observance of Athena, goddess of wisdom and warfare, on the 3th Lunar Day of the Attic Calendar) I tried to pray to Her as well.

May the Gods of War watch us and guide us, always!

To fight with courage and strenght, but also, wisdom!

Khaire Ares Andrefontes! The Destroyer of Men!

Khaire Pallas Athena! The Protector of Cities!

Athena is another one I don’t work with anymore, but I’m a Scorpio, my loyalty runs deep, so she’s getting a post anyway.

I turned to Athena when I started Graduate School. I wanted to succeed and knew I had some negative study habits from undergrad that needed to change. I devoted time to her by studying for an hour every day for my classes, by attending classes, and such.

About halfway through my second semester I think? Or partway through the third semester, she just kinda dipped. IDK if she felt I had things down or what, but she reached out to me to let me know I no longer needed her and we parted ways.

I still associate lapis lazuli and rosemary with her, but I haven’t worked with her at all since.

I made Athena a candle and I feel like she likes it. It’s a small white pillar candle (I forget what they are called but it’s small) with some scented wax from one of my old candles that the wicked burned out but it still have a lot of wax dripped on it, some chamomile from a tea bag pressed into it, some dragon’s blood incense ashes, and a red thread, and a blue thread wrapped around it.

ashelone:

A Hymn to Athene

Hear me, O’ Glorious Queen Athene,

All-Powerful and Exceedingly Wise,

Sharp-Eyed Maiden borne from the head of Zeus,

Strategic Warrior and Bringer of Peace.

It is through Your grace as Mother of Invention

That industry may be allowed to prosper,

It is through Your will, O’ Civil Protectress

That culture abounds and justice is served.

Each gleaming weapon is a reflection of You,

Every handicraft a display of Your divine boon.

In times of distress and in blessed creation,

Your guidance directs our once unsteady hands.

If ever I honored you through gift or libation,

Please grant me counsel and essential insight,

The courage to face each ongoing challenge,

And the strength and stability to endure.

vintagedeity:

Fair Athene, assist my plight

Lift my countenance, through your vision, slated pure and grey.

Delight my soul, tethered may it be,

At your side, eternally

theoiandprayers:

Please, Ares, give courage to those who are protesting against racists.

Please, Athena, protect them because they are still fighting for their rights.

Please, Zeus, take care of them, be a shelter for those who need it.

Hi yes… um.. if anyone works with deities could you like hit me up or smth. I’ve been getting some freaky signs and I need a second opinion. Preferably someone who worships Athena?

May Athena give me the strength to not kms bcs of an essay :)

“Beside”, a poem for Athene and Ares.

Athene of the bright eyes, approached Ares
Whom sustained a boy in His bloody hands
“Does he have the strenght?”, asked Pallas
“He does, for I gave him” Ares spit back
“And the wit, does he lack?” asked the mighty warrior
“No longer”, said the Goddess, “For here I am”.
Bronze shone beside the boy who could not see
He shouted loudly and got in hands a mighty spear
The enemy approached heavy and brave
But this time his courage would
not wane.

portuguese:

Atena dos olhos brilhantes, de Ares se achegou
Que o via sustentar um menino em Suas mãos saguinolentas
“A força, ele tem?” questionou Palas.
“O tem, pois a ele o presenteei” Ares retrucou,
“E a esperteza, nele falta?” perguntou o poderoso guerreiro
“Não mais”, disse a Deusa, “porque aqui estou”.
Bronze brilhou ao lado do menino que não os podia ver
Ele gritou de volta e pegou nas mãos uma poderosa lança
O inimigo se aproximou pesado e corajoso
Mas desta vez a bravura não lhe
faltaria.

I’ve wanted to do a post on Athena’s eyes for a while, but I rarely get time to delve into this in a manner it deserves, so pardon the sloppy images but I don’t have time to beautify them.

Most of the times that I see Athena’s eyes described they are described as grey or blue in the English translations, assumed from the Greek words glaukōpis or glaukos. However I’ve also seen this interpreted as green or silvery. And I’ve also seen this referenced as “moon-like”, which can mean glowing white. That’s five different colors, which got me curious what these words actually mean. After looking into it has led me to envision Athena as either amber-eyed, or with the gleaming eyes of various hues an owl has at night, or a combination of the two depending on the instance.

Athena, often described as “glaukōpis” or “gleaming eyed”, is associated with a small owl named “glauks”. This owl, like many owls, has bright yellow/amber eyes. In Latin this bird is called Athene Noctua, It is Athena’s bird.

In addition to this, I noticed in the book “A glossary of Greek birds by Thompson, D'Arcy Wentworth, 1860-1948 Sir” that the entry right before the glauks bird is a bird called glaukion, called “the golden-eye” for it’s yellow eyes. And when reading through the Homeric Dictionary by Autenrieth came upon the word glaukiao, which references “the gleaming eyes of a lion” which, again, are yellow/amber in color.

Again, I don’t speak Greek, but this is my interpretation. I think the eye color of Athena is a lot more open to interpretation than I’ve seen in the translations. In the Odyssey Athena transforms into a swallow, a bird which has gleaming black eyes. On most ancient pottery images I’ve seen she has dark eyes, which is also a completely valid interpretation.

Just my thoughts and ramblings…
