The laptops have had a huge impact on how they operate. We can take equipment with us almost everywhere we go, but the big question is how long the battery last. Especially the best laptop for business, the question of longevity paste is a very broad question and there are great leaders on the

Still playing with my little LED lights and tritium.  I found these great paracord beads - expensive but totally worth the money.  Beautifully turned brass with “windows” - three vertical holes interspersed with a long window around the whole bead.  I sealed the holes and poured resin into the center and embedded the LED leaving the connector post exposed so the battery pack “clutch” can turn on the light.

The top photos are “BlueBot” with a domed cap making him look a little like a certain famous robot that I can’t mention because I don’t want a trademark strike.  It can be worn without the battery pack and brass ring.  Unfortunately the photos make the light seem much brighter than it is in reality.  It just gives off a blue glow.

The middle photos are a design I wanted to revisit with a blue tritium stick in a glass vial and silver tone sleeve.  Very cyberpunk.  I combined it with a horizontal post hanger with mechanical bits and pieces.

Final piece is a little “Green rocket”.  The top has a small silver tone stepped cap on top and serrated exhaust funnel over the battery pack.  It can also be worn without the battery pack.  Again, the photos don’t convey the light well.  It gives off more of a green glow and isn’t that bright in reality.

The LED necklaces are on long chains to be worn mid length.  The battery packs are very secure and the batteries can be replaced easily.  I’ll list them in my Etsy shop.  Etsy doesn’t let me sell tritium (I don’t agree with it but their sandpit - their rules) so if you are interested buying it - drop me a PM.  It’s US$125 including shipping/tracking from Australia.

Batteries have an important role as energy sources with environmental advantages. They offset the negative environmental impacts of fossil fuels or nuclear-based power; they are also recyclable. These attributes have led to increasing research with the aim of improving battery design and environmental impact, particularly regarding their end of life. In addition, there is a desire to improve battery safety as well as design batteries from more sustainable and less toxic materials.

New research shows that aluminium battery could offer several advantages:

Aluminium metal anode batteries could hold promise as an environmentally friendly and sustainable replacement for the current lithium battery technology. Among aluminium’s benefits are its abundance, it is the third most plentiful element the Earth’s crust.

To date aluminium anode batteries have not moved into commercial use, mainly because using graphite as a cathode leads to a battery with an energy content which is too low to be useful.

This is promising for future research and development of aluminium as well as other metal-organic batteries.

New UK battery project is said to be vital for balancing the country’s electricity demand

Work has begun on what is said to be Europe’s biggest battery. The 100MW Minety power storage project, which is being built in southwest England, UK, will comprise two 50MW battery storage systems. The project is backed by China Huaneng Group and Chinese sovereign wealth fund CNIC.

Shell Energy Europe Limited (SEEL) has agreed a multi-year power offtake agreement which will enable the oil and gas major, along with its recently acquired subsidiary Limejump, to optimise the use of renewable power in the area.

In a statement David Wells, Vice President of SEEL said ‘Projects like this will be vital for balancing the UK’s electricity demand and supply as wind and solar power play bigger roles in powering our lives.

The major hurdles for battery design, states the EU’s document, include finding suitable materials for electrodes and electrolytes that will work well together, not compromise battery design, and meet the sustainability criteria now required. The process is trial and error, but progress is being made.

Penn State professor, Chao-Yang Wang, was recently named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors for his work on batteries and fuel cells. The Academy honors distinguished individuals who have created inventions that have made an impact on the quality of life, economic development, and welfare of society.

Wang’s research has helped lead to the creation of an all-climate electric vehicle battery, and he currently has over 20 patents for his work and has 25 pending patent applications.

As a marching band tech, I’ve gotten a lot of excuses for why someone isn’t wearing sunscreen during rehearsal. Under the cut, I address some of them! Please, please wear your sunscreen! Since our bodies are strong and young, it’s easy to forget that they need to be taken care of. If you’re perfecting your roll step to avoid rolling an ankle, you should also be applying sunscreen to avoid skin cancer!

Plus, sunburns hurt, and that pain can make people more irritable even if they don’t notice it. This won’t help when you’re hungry, tired, hot, and trying to learn dots! Contribute to your band’s success by taking care of yourself so you can be 100% there during rehearsal! (Plus, PLUS, you’re all really talented and ilu so be safe!!)

“Don’t worry, I just tan over my burns!” - One burn every two years triples your chance of skin cancer–it’s not worth the risk! You’re still burning! [source]

“I have dark skin! I won’t burn.” - Even lovely, melanin-rich skin can burn! It may take longer, but the consequences are the same. [source]

“I don’t like how sunscreen feels–it’s gross!” - I know! I am sorry, I hate it too. To get around this, try putting on a little less OR using a sunscreen designed not to feel greasy. [Here is a bunch!] Just because we think it’s gross doesn’t mean the sun will be kind to us. ): A little discomfort now is worth protecting your future!

“I like the tan!” - You can tan without burning! Here’s a [cosmopolitan article] that explains how.
