A new hockey series and a new team of players for sports romance fans to delight in.

I’m not a fan of book that starts with a bang, literally, and such stories can cause me to quickly lose interest. Add to that a new series with unknown characters and it can take me some time to settle in to a story, and that’s exactly what happened with Bishop. I was expecting the usual light hearted banter and hockey themed romance but Bishop is more like Christian Grey with a puck. He is sexually dominant and knows what he wants from his life on and off the ice. This take no prisoners attitude was slightly off putting at the start until I got to know Bishop and Brooke. Slowly but surely these two characters got under my skin - and each other’s - as their crazy plan for the benefit of Brooke’s father becomes a reality as Bishop and Brooke start to develop feelings for one another other as their relationship walls start to crumble.

By half way through, the story had me well and truly hooked and now I can’t wait to read about the rest of the Arizona Vengeance team. From Dax and Erik, your quintessential playboys, to the mysterious and grieving Tacker, I can’t wait to read on in this series.

Hawkeye Predictions: Yelena shows up in the last scene of the last episode. I’m sorry, but it feels more and more likely. First I thought maybe the tracksuits were connected to her (because Russian) but nop. I can’t see Val’s influence that strong yet, and besides, this is Clint and Kate’s passing the baton. BW was Nat and Yelena’s passing the baton.

There will be a clint/yelena fight scene. And I will riot if they don’t mention how similar Yelena’s fighting style is to Nat’s. The fight scene in Budapest was like 2 people fighting with a mirror. No way Clint doesn’t immediately think ‘OMG Red Room.’ Take it a step further, the scene could be inspired by the avengers or civil war fight scenes. Clint pulled her hair and Nat bit him. Icons.

Kate: I saw a post which said that Kate’s reckoning won’t be when she finds out Clint is Ronin, because she already kinda sorta knows Ronin is close to Clint, but instead when she finds out Eleanor is fishy. I could easily see that happening, but I could also see Kate being upset after realising her role model since she was 9?10? is a murderer. But her mother’s stuff would probably be more upsetting. They do love each other, and I would really love if Eleanor wasn’t evil, and it’s a double bluff.

Eleanor: Eleanor and Kate’s dad were arguing over whether to sell the house or not, probably because Bishop securities wasn’t doing too well? And now that the House stands tall and very much is theirs, I think Eleanor got up to suspicious dealings with bad people i.e Tracksuits after 2012 to save Bishop Securities, which is why they’re still rich. And I think some of the suspicious stuff includes the phone number tracking thing that even Kate used because you just put someone’s name in and you have an exact location on them does not sound very legal.

“We’re fucked.” Bishop was rather frank about the outcome of the situation. The men around the table shuffle uneasily, a lone cough swirls the wafting smoke around the room more. El Jefe had dug a hole so deep that not even the surrounding clubs would bother to stick their necks out to help. That’s the thing about Bishop, he was headfast. Arrogant to the point of insanity, stubborn as a bull, and one of the most hard headed men you had ever met. He knew that if he didn’t get help and fast, all the men sitting at his table could be gone. And it would be his fault. He can’t show - won’t show - any signs of weakness around them, no. He was El Presidente and he had a job to do.

“You got a plan, boss?” Johnny “Coco” Cruz asks, a cigarette dangling out of his mouth. Honestly, if the cartel members didn’t kill them first, Bishop was sure second-hand smoking would do the trick. He eyes Coco for a second, contemplating how to answer the lanky man. He wanted to say no. Wanted to tell everyone that he had no idea what to do and that half the time he wasn’t even sure why he was wearing his kutte. He didn’t feel like the president, he felt like a fucking imposter. An imposter standing on the backs of these loyal fuckers who would follow him to the ends of the earth if he gave the word.

So, he did what he did best.

Lie.

Oh, this is really good. Great pacing, great original character, morally grey black female character, yes!!

With the rollout of the new model of the Galaxy Note and a phone upgrade I’ve been waiting very patiently to cash in on, I finally got myself the mobile workstation I’ve wanted for years. I was nervous about the size of the stylus and sensitivity, but woof. My new baby blows my poor old Intuos out of the water, and the S Pen is the perfect size for my extraordinarily tiny hands.

I’ve been doing some pretty furious testing with art apps. I’m still blown away by how far digital art has come on mobile. As disappointed as I am that CSP isn’t on Android, I’ve absolutely fallen in love with ArtFlow (example: sepia tone sketch) and Infinite Painter (literally everything else). The former is extraordinarly similar to PaintTool Sai, and the latter is Clip Studio Paint’s little sibling with an emphasis on illustration and brush customizability. I uhhhhhh accidentally corrupted Infinite Painter app with a custom brush I made that had to be summarily ejected from my phone, but it’s been incredible having touch screen functionality and gesture commands.

We’re still making some good progress, both in terms of the plot and in terms of the characters. I’m happy to finally be getting a bit more with Joseph, because what’s the point of making such a character if he’s just going to hang out and be broody? I don’t find him all that engaging really, and I’m sure that won’t change, but I at least appreciate him doing something. Plus, we’re getting some new villains, it seems. Maybe not. We’ll see.

We begin back in Guatemala, where Sister Maria is being chased by some scary robot who wants to know where Joseph is. It’s not clear what, exactly the robot is, or if it’s been sent by someone. Either way, the thing is about to kill Sister Maria, when it’s destroyed by Maggott, who is also looking for Joseph.

In space Lilandra is trying to deal with the aftermath of the Phalanx’s destruction of her people. It’s hit her hard, but she still gives a speech and throws a banquet in remembrance of the dead.  Joseph is offended by the celebration, and feels that everyone should be mourning instead. Rogue promises to tell him everything about the time when he was Magneto if he’ll just promise to not interrupt the banquet.

Elsewhere, Gambit is burying the Shi’ar dead, and reminiscing about his “checkered past” (again).

The next morning, the team head home, with Deathbird escorting them. Bishop and Deathbird have a chat about Shi’ar history and she destroys a book about herself. Then there’s an anomaly so everyone has to go figure out what it is.

Apparently there’s a huge ship near them. The bigger ship is also headed towards Earth, but it destroys the stargate and throws the X-Men’s ship into a spin.

Next time: “The Story of the Year!”

Our story continues, and I continue to be pleased by a continuous story. It’s not the most exciting issue, but it’s pretty solid. I don’t have a ton to say about it, which is fine, because I have way too much reading to catch up on.

Lilandra is still alive and being held captive by the Phalanx. The team and Deathbird are on their way to save her.

Initially, Deathbird can’t think of why Lilandra would have surrendered, instead of going down fighting. She then realizes that Lilandra must have made the choice in order to save the Shi’ar children, who are eggs, which is weird.

Rogue sends Deathbird and Bishop to save the kids while the rest of them go to get Lilandra and fight the Phalanx.

Bastion’s forces are ready to kill all the mutants, and Robert Kelly isn’t sure it’s the right thing to do. Like, dude, come on. You keep feeling this way and it keeps being a mess.

Bishop and Deathbird arrive in the nest and she collapses from her original wound but still wants to fight.

Joseph starts having Magneto flashbacks but the team want him to ignore them and keep a low profile. Unfortunately, Joseph is too incensed at the injustice of the Phalanx killing everyone to remain calm, so he starts an assault on the Phalanx.

The team are having some problems but Hank’s program to defeat the Phalanx works. But probably the fight isn’t really over because this is a comic book.
