From greenhouse gases to plastics: New catalyst for recycling carbon dioxide discovered
Imagine if we could take CO2, that most notorious of greenhouse gases, and convert it into something useful. Something like plastic, for example. The positive effects could be dramatic, both diverting CO2 from the atmosphere and reducing the need for fossil fuels to make products.
A group of researchers, led by the University of Toronto Ted Sargent group, just published results that bring this possibility a lot closer.
Using the Canadian Light Source and a new technique exclusive to the facility, they were able to pinpoint the conditions that convert CO2 to ethylene most efficiently. Ethylene, in turn, is used to make polyethylene—the most common plastic used today—whose annual global production is around 80 million tonnes.
“This experiment could not have been performed anywhere else in the world, and we are thrilled with the results” says U of T Ph.D. student Phil De Luna, the lead researcher on this project.

Copper coating on 3-D-printed plastic filters proposed as a pandemic fighter
In the ongoing fight against COVID-19, experts on microbiology and copper are recommending an expanded use of the metal to reduce the virus’s spread. So might copper be incorporated into the construction of masks, the universally accepted virus-fighting personal item?
That’s what Jing Zhang of the School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI and a team of researchers are doing, using a copper coating on 3-D-printed plastic filters to create more-efficient masks and respirators.
“One study in 2015, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, said that a copper alloy can kill 58 percent of infections,” said Zhang, an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering. “We can use copper plating to cover some frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and elevator buttons; that inspired me to see how we could combine what looks like almost a magic metal into a mask design.”

They was gems that loved the gem empiry and revolted before Steven finished every tyranny of the Diamonds. So they team up because they had the same thoughs. They are bullys that poff gems for fun and use heavy armor pieces to look like a gang. Gold is too much strong, more than Jasper, but she is bit slow. Iron is very fast and agile with swords and weapons, and copper can remove parts of anything and throw away with her mind. If it should be a season of SU, Steven and the gems could try redempt each one to be good. They supposed to be small groups of peoples with evil thougs like the ones that exist in real life.
The purpose of each type of gem in homeworld is:
Gold: Destroy old gem builds that don’t have more purpose.
Iron: Upgrade Bismuth weapons to more sharp and good than Bismuths can make.
Copper: Fix Big and Confusing gem tecnologies with errors and bugs.

This color match is from one of the pages in my “Tiny Pantone Objects” book that was published early May 2016. A lot has happened after that, in a good way, and I’ve been busy ever since working on another side business.
