Buffalo Community Fridges

There’s a Twitter thread breaking it down

Hey, this is actually my city. There are also a couple more orgs doing work to get food to the East Side.

Feed Buffalo is on the West Side but is taking Donations over to the East Side right now. https://www.feedbuffalo.org/

The link takes you to multiple community fridges but I want to specifically shout out Rooted in Love because it’s a Black lead effort, and it’s been getting less attention

Also FeedMore of WNY.

https://www.feedmorewny.org/donate/

Thank you guys for anything you can do for our East Side.

Matt Schlapp is the chair of #CPAC.

If there was a meter for ‘fcuking stupid’, Matt would have broken it.

How is the dishwasher market socialist? How is the replacement part industry socialist?

Stop playing victim. Get a second opinion, you moron.

The backlog of replacement parts is a real thing.  For myself I was told I needed to wait two weeks because they were so backed up with orders from up to a year ago.  Because of the pandemic.

Specifically, because CAPITALIST corporations moved all their production to countries where they could pay people pennies on the dollar and then when there was a global disruption in shipping that lasted two years and counting, Oops, suddenly that’s a problem.

This is literally the result of capitalists looking to maximize every bit of profit at the cost of convenience, environmental impact, or the effect on the American public.  But sure, that’s somehow communism.

Just me crying in the bathroom so I don’t wake my partners with this, fuck.

So to sum up: CT and DC have passed laws making it illegal to extradite someone to another state if they are being charged in that other state for crimes pertaining to abortion or trans health care, and makes it legal to sue and get your money back if you are targeted by a TX-style “bounty” law. DC also includes “crimes” of consensual adult sex, gay and interracial marriage and cohabitation and providing or using contraception.

This is, as the thread explains, basically legal interstate warfare. CT and DC’s laws bar compliance with such laws.

This is, on one hand, kind of terrifying, because this is where we are now. It’s going to get worse long before it gets better.

On the other hand… holy shit, someone fucking did something.

Someone fucking did something real.

The media: The mentally ill lone wolf had a rough life. No one wanted to be his friend.

‘Something, something Soros’

Okay, I get where you’re going with this, but…

This is just the headlines that popped up on my iPhone - from a wide range of media sources - and a couple of the top headlines from a Google search.

The press is not your enemy, the media is not your enemy, journalists are not your enemy. You know who is your enemy? The people calling those “fake news”. The people saying journalists are all biased against [political party] and you shouldn’t listen to them, ONLY get your news from social media, the people you follow on Twitter and Facebook are more informed and trustworthy than the fake news lamestream media!

Note, in case someone was considering commenting on “police say” and “officials say” - that doesn’t mean “some dude said this, but there’s no way to really know…”

It’s citing sources. It means “unlike some people, we aren’t pulling this out of our asses. This is our authoritative source, so you can’t argue with our facts. Unless you believe we’re lying start to finish, you can’t say we’re just biased against [in this case, far-right-ers] and making stuff up.” Without sources, you’re just writing an opinion piece. And that is how you get FOX-style ‘fake news’.

@constructedparadox So I was skimming through the live updates on Wall Street Journal, because I did remember they had a headline about the mental health evaluation. Here are two of the headlines that my phone got from them:

Ah, yes, one does mention the mental health evaluation! Okay, let’s click on that.

It’s the live updates, interesting. It is very VERY long, there are like thirty full articles in here. Let’s skim them and find that mention of the mental health evaluation that the headline alludes to.

Here are some selections. Alongside a lot of other stuff about 4chan, a lot of stuff about the victims, a lot of stuff about how he discussed his plans with others and got advice on what weapons and armor to get, a full article about him streaming this on Twitch and the failure of efforts to restrict racist extremist groups on Twitch.

You may notice nothing about the mental health evaluation. That’s because I literally didn’t see it on my first scroll-through. I went back and finally found it:

That’s it. That’s the only mention I can find, in what’s probably 50 plus pages of text, is that he was evaluated for a threat. The point of mentioning it in their article was that it was known by police that he had previously made a threat and should not have been allowed to purchase heavy weaponry.

But yes! It is mentioned in a headline. …followed by a headline about “descent into racist extremism”. Which is entirely about. The groups. Of Racist extremists. As is 85% of the thing with the other headline, the other 14.9% being about the victims.

soullsword:

[Id: a video of an Al Jazeera live feed, showing Shireen Abu Akleh’s funeral procession. Hundreds of Palestinians stand, waving Palestinian flags and at the forefront, a group carries Shireen’s casket. A line of IOF soldiers, wearing helmets and batons, blocks their passage and soon descends on the Palestinians. The soldiers push against the people carrying the casket, that’s almost dropped. A journalist says “I’ve looked at news around the world through decades and I’ve never seen a scene like this. Look at this! Attacking innocent people carrying the casket. I don’t know what to say, I don’t know what to say anymore! What are they expecting now? This is unbelievable. Such disrespect for the dead and for those who are mourning the dead. How is that a security threat to anyone? How does it require this kind of repression, this kind of violence on the part of the Israelis?” / end id]

On 11/05, Shireen Abu Akleh, a beloved Palestinian journalist, was shot dead by Israeli Occupation Forces.

This was a targeted assassination. Ali Al Samoudi, Shireen’s colleague who was hit by other bullet, says Israeli snipers shot three bullets at the team of journalists, the third hitting Shireen in the head on the space unprotected by her helmet.Shatha Hanaysha, the woman who was by her side, said the snipers kept shooting at people trying to rescue them, even though they were wearing vests clearly marked as press.

Even though there’s clear evidence, the Israeli Defense Ministry tried to say the Palestinian armed resistance had shot her. B'tselem quickly disproved this, showing the Palestinian soldiers were yards away from where she was killed.

After killing her, the IOF brutalized the mourners, raiding the hospital Shireen was taken toandharassing the crowds giving condolences to her family, taking down Palestinian flags and arresting people. They also brought Shireen’s brother into interrogation in order to prevent expressions of Palestinian nationalism during the funeral.

They still covered her casket with the Palestinian flag. The IOF descended on the crowd gathered for the funeral procession and targetting the pallbearers, almost dropping the coffin. The video is harrowing and painful to watch. They didn’t want Palestinians to mourn over her casket so they only allowed her to leave the hospital in a closed car, and still ripped the Palestinian flag from the car, while arresting several others for simply raising the flag.

The funeral procession still happened, being called one of the longest in Palestinian history. IOF soldiers tried to break the collective mourning, riding along with horsesandseparating Muslims and Christians, only allowing Palestinian christians into the church.

While the Jabari family was gathered to mourn Shireen, bus loads of settlers came and took over their building. Now, they’re on social media boasting about their “new building acquisition.”

This morning, the Israel Defense Ministry showed a blurry video of the soldiers descending on the pallbeares and said they attacked them because they were throwing stones at them, what’s simply never happened. They invented the stone. To the unrelenting hasbara, I’m leaving this comment by a Palestinian organizer:

a tweet by Fahad Ali reading "The Zionist regime pushes out low-effort, easy to dispute propaganda, not because they intend to seriously convince anyone, but because they want to muddy the waters and create the impression that the facts are in dispute. They know most people will not fact check."

Even though there’s piles and piles of proof, western media outletsare making spineless reportingssaying they can’t be sure who killed her until further investigation.

It’s our job to give dignity to Shireen’s memory, that the Israeli government is trying so hard to slander. She put herself in the line of fire of her colonizers to amplify the plight of her people. The least we can do is follow journalists and activists and organize, as Al Jazeera has broadcast:

Israel will not hold itself to account, just like its apartheid regime won’t dismantle itself. International stakeholders who do not call this out simply cast themselves as a cog in Israel’s whitewashing machine.

It’s the time to take Palestinians side. It’s not the time to dispute BDS guidelines, with basic stuff like supporting Eurovision.

Here are posts with Palestinian based resources.

Here’s a list of protests that you can attend this Nakba Day. If you can, ask for a friend to come with you and show your support:

MAY 14TH

MAY 15TH

This is the time to act on your anger and support the armed resistance. There’s a clear shift happening on the way the international community talks about Palestine. Within our lifetimes, Palestine will be free.

Between the decision to mail people COVID testsaftermocking the idea and the decision to extend the student loan defermentaftersignaling that it would end in February, two things should now be clear to everyone:

1. Challenging the Biden Administration’s decisions, even through griping and creating negative discourse around it in social media, can be an effective agent of change.

2. Those who say that we shouldn’t speak up because it helps the Republicans are the ones doing real harm.

Given today’s news about Biden invoking the Defense Production Act to try to address the infant formula shortage after Jen Psaki was viciously mocked for telling parents worried about their infant’s risk of malnutrition to “call their doctor or pediatrician”, a few thoughts:

  1. Nicely done everyone!
  2. Please, please, please do notallowBiden’s incoming press secretary to use accusations of racism, homophobia, misogyny, or any combination thereof to shield her and the administration from further criticism.

Here are the stories that caught our eye:

MMA RELATED:

1.  Gus made the EA cover…and yet we’ll be watching Glover fight Jon Jones next.  Take Jones the distance and all you get is the fear of the Madden Curse.

2.  Anderson Silva says he would leave the UFC if Uncle Dana tried to force him to retire.  Yes, Anderson, that is, in fact, what you do in forced retirement.

3.  With a history of steroid use in the past, Bigfoot Silva unfortunately failed another drug test thanks to elevated testosterone levels.  How could the genetics that created Bigfoot fail to produce enough testosterone short of decreased production thanks to steroid abuse? Speaking of failed drug tests, how ‘bout that Doug Marshall of Bellator?

4.  Shooto is promoting a man vs. woman fight in Brazil.  So you mean some woman finally agreed to fight Cyborg?

NON-MMA RELATED:

1.  One of my secret favorites, Hall & Oates, finally made it into the arbitrary and stupid Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

2.  If you frack your kid might just be f*cked.

3.  You better not sell boobie pillows within 1,000 feet of CA highways or do any of these things either.

4.  She just wanted to find out what was in Santa’s sack.

i don’t actually have anything wise or clever to say about the hostage situation that happened in Texas this last weekend. I am just thankful the hostages all made it out alive thanks to the bravery of the Rabbi. my heart is broken it happened in the first place. i’m concerned mainstream media is deemphasizing antisemitism when they talk about this. just because the terrorist’s demands were not about Jews specifically did not mean his actions were not spurred directly by antisemitism, that is, believing we have extensive power and governmental control beyond reality, and believing conspiratorial canards about jews.

Chills. I can’t imagine my own high school showing up like this less than a decade ago to protest disgusting legislation like Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill. The support Gen Z shows for the LGBTQ community is breathtaking.

The fight goes on. Keep it up.

I think you all need to know the consequences of this brave action.

The kid who started the walkout at the original school was indefinitely suspended, even though he had permission for the demonstration (their excuse is that he got permission for the walkout, but not for the little Pride flags he handed out). Other participating kids at other schools have similarly been punished.

Teachers who supported students walking out are also being punished, fired, blacklisted from working at other schools.

Homophobic kids are ratting out their fellow students and teachers for supporting the walkout to get them in trouble with school administrations.

The consequences are continuing.

So yes, applaud this - this is great, and it’s brave, and it’s inspiring. But be aware of what the reaction has been.

Remember there are always consequence — doesn’t mean don’t to the thing but be aware of and plan (as best you can) for the consequences

juliaspiegel:

I don’t think D*pp’s reputation ever actually took a hit following his divorce and I’m going to keep saying this. I followed this case from the start and I don’t ever remember popular opinion being on Amber Heard’s side. When the divorce happened she was a gold digger. When those tapes got released years ago people didn’t even need anything more than out of context audio tapes to start demanding she be removed from Aquaman 2 and calling her an abuser.

I really think the explanation is more simple than rehabbing his public image because he really didn’t get fired from the WB until after he lost his libel case. Even after some fans called to replace him, the WB and world’s most famous transphobe JKR stood by D*pp.  In this wonderful piece by the Hollywood Reporter.  They lay out pretty clearly why D*pp isn’t getting work in Hollywood right now and he is unlikely to have his career post his libel case in the UK win or loose.

I think it’s so much more simple than people can imagine. It’s not ruining her reputation when people never sided with her. It’s not winning back his own career. It’s definitely not about winning the case (which many lawyers have said he is unlikely to do because defamation has SUCH high bar to clear. Since he has to prove she wrote that article with the intent to cause harm.) It’s just further abuse. He is doing this because abusers can use the courts to continue to abuse their victims.  It’s just a way to keep abusing her.  It’s really that simple.

And that it’s SO simple and obvious and people are doing his work and abusing her for him is wild. It shows you how short the #metoo movement was, and I deeply fear the way this will affect domestic violence victims. And it is one of the reasons I will continue to be so vocal about this. I support Amber. I stand with Amber. I will defend Amber. I stand with all victims of domestic abuse. I stand with people who hit their abusers back. I stand with people who didn’t leave for whatever complicated reasons they may have had. It is not on anyone to judge how someone handles an intensely traumatic situation. I see you. I believe you. I will support you. I will defend you.

tarotofbadkitties:

Johnny Depp’s team clearly couldn’t be arsed to actually research DV and thinks he can win by just saying “see she hit me too.” That’s obvious because he’s claimed he’s never laid a hand on Amber Heard, that they engaged in mutual abuse and ALSO claimed that he engaged in reactive violence after she provoked him and repeatedly attacked when he ran away.

Those are mutually exclusive claims. Mutual abuse isn’t even a real thing in DV research, one party uses coercion and violence to control the other. Reactive violence is engaging is lashing out with abusive behavior after tiring of extended abuse. And you can’t react with abuse but ALSO not engage in abusive behavior at the same time. He wants to say things like “she gives as good as she gets” to use her trying to stand up for herself and defend herself against her, but also maintain the impression of himself that he’s this southern gentleman, this chivalrous guy that would never hit a woman, never verbally abuse or disrespect her.

People are really letting him get away with telling a whole universe of mutually contradictory tales. On one hand they got into these mutual fights, on the other hand he never touched her. On one hand he just ran from her when she would start yelling at him, on the other hand he said cruel things to her because she provoked him or he was just joking in texts where he said he dreamed of killing her and raping her corpse. He says that she was the primary aggressor and started all the fights, then says well there weren’t really fights, she would hit me and I would run away. That’s not starting a fight lol. Two people participate in a fight, if one person hits, and the other person just runs from them then you don’t have a fight at all, you would describe that as them just hitting you and you escaping.

He’s also literally told a half dozen different stories about his finger. Said that he cut it off himself, said that he hurt it in car door, said she sliced it off with a piece of broken glass, said that it got sliced when she threw a bottle at him and the bottle hit it, says it got sliced off when she threw a broken bottle at him and the bottle cut his finger off, and says that he hurt it in an incident with an accordion. What version do I believe? The one where he cut it off himself. Why? Well because it’s easier to believe a man on drugs did that himself than someone else doing it to him while he isn’t blacked out insane when what he does afterward is write on the mirrors and walls in his own blood and then finger-paint with his bloody finger, writing threats against her and accusations she cheated. He also texted his doctor admitting he did it, wrote her an apology for scaring her when he got high and did it, texted a friend saying he did it, and admitted in a recording of a conversation only the two of them were present for that he did it.

He’s a liar and folks need to stop entertaining his DARVO. This Deny, Accuse, Reverse Victim and Offender bullshit is exhausting and not convincing at all unless all you’ve seen of this trial is tiktoks promoted by bots and his PR team.
