Welp. We’re here already. We have LESS THAN 48 HOURS until the end of our crowdfunding campaign on Thursday, August 16, at 10:00 AM PST.

Please follow/support/share at www.journeytotheannex.com. Seriously, EVERY LITTLE BIT, and every share and every follow helps in a huge way!

We must reach at least 80% of our goal, or else we receive zero funding and cannot complete production on our pilot episode. That means:
- We need $5,670 in order to be Greenlit
- We need $12,670 in order to be fully funded
- We need 41 more followers in order to unlock our next level of filmmaker perks, such as discounts on rental equipment, professional consultations, and waived festival fees. (Followers do NOT need to contribute financially).

And just a reminder, our 24-HOUR LIVESTREAM will start tomorrow, Wednesday, at 10:00 AM. Find us on Facebook.

Thank you!

We’re coming up on the FINAL DAY! If you can, please support. If you can’t, please share! Every pledge, follow, share goes a long way! Thank you!

The rough cut is complete, and we are currently planning and prepping for the rest of post-production. We anticipate one day of pick-ups, and the remainder of post includes things like CGI/visual FX, color correction, ADR and sound design, and music. In order to fund post-production, we have spent most of 2019 applying to filmmaking grants and finishing funds. Most of these opportunities are tedious processes, often not announcing their finalists and winners for many months. But we are optimistic and doing as much prep and post as we can do on our own while we continue looking for financing.

In the meantime, we are going to begin distributing some of the hard-copy perks from our crowdfunding campaign starting in the next few weeks. So if you are expecting a One-Sheet, Character Portraits, and/or Autographed Script Pages keep a look-out in your inbox for instructions that will help us get those to you. Larger perks such as the Behind-the-Scenes Featurette, Digital Portfolio, and Producers’ Books require us to finish post-production first, so those will be distributed at a later date.

If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say “Hi!” please don’t hesitate to email us anytime at [email protected].

We did it!!!

Thanks to you, last weekend we shot two days of principal photography on Episode Zero of PURE. We had a fantastic time shooting on location in Idyllwild, California and cannot wait to show you how it all turned out. Here is a little behind-the-scenes sneak peek:

But we still have a long road ahead of us. Following a short break for the holidays and the New Year, we will be jumping right into post-production. We’ll keep you posted on our progress, and, as always, don’t hesitate to reach out and say “Hi” via social media, Seed & Spark, or at [email protected].

We are so grateful for you.

Check out this great essay on Debbi Morgan’s career-best portrayal of frequently widowed 1960s Louisiana psychic Mozelle Batiste Delacroix in the richly evocative Southern Gothic melodrama Eve’s Bayou (1997, Kasi Lemmons; with co-stars Jurnee Smollett, Diahann Carroll and Samuel L. Jackson):

““We’re two of a kind, my brother and I,” Mozelle intones repeatedly, and it takes a formidable talent to play the sister of Samuel L. Jackson (at his most magnetic here, with no 12-letter words in sight). But Morgan actually upstages him. She has a way of gliding into a room as though on a dolly, and her reaction shots are so acute that the film uses them as punctuation. Her unsettlingly wide eyes flicker between emotions outsize and minute, and her sultry, worldly-wise voice sounds just as one imagines Ava Gardner’s did before the studio sanded down the Southern edges. She feels born of the bayous, as endemic to the region as Spanish moss… It’s worth considering Morgan’s turn not only as a great performance but as the kind of supporting work that’s hardly ever recognized—neither ingénue nor overdue, and not, like this year’s front-runners, a masquerading lead. It fuels the eternal hope that admirers of great performances, like Louis in Mozelle’s prophecy, “open their eyes and see that what they’ve been looking for is standing right in front of them.”” — Steven Mears, “On Debbi Morgan in Eve’s Bayou”,Film Comment (February 2016)

We are steadily climbing our way through post-production on Episode Zero of PURE.  We are just about done with editing the rough cut. From here, we will be able to determine what we need in terms of pick-up shots and ADR. Then we’ll be back in the cutting room to tackle the final edit while our Visual FX team works on our CGI special effects, followed by sound design and music.

Watch our little update video to see a sneak peek into the editing room and catch a glimpse of some of the rough cut footage

Thank you so much and we can’t wait to show you the final project!

Set in a future where genetic modification has divided society, PURE is a sci-fi/adventure digital series exploring freedom, sacrifice, and morality from an inclusive perspective.

The pilot episode, Episode Zero, crowdfunded in the the summer of 2018, principal photography wrapped in December of 2018, and the project is currently in post-production.

SUBLIME CINEMA #600 - HONEY BOY

Shia LaBeouf is one of the most polarizing actors around, but I’ve liked the guy  and a few of his films in particular. The motivations behind his not seeming to give a fuck might lie in this film he penned, which is really well done - directed and shot by two very talented women, Alma Har'el and Natasha Braier respectively.

The film is brutal, funny - and is a gorgeously photographed rendition of LA.

SUBLIME CINEMA #588 - THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES

One of the most infuriating movies ever made. Although Jackie Siegel is strangely sympathetic, it’s a portrait of extreme decadence and tacky, wasteful spending unlike much else I’ve seen.

It did however prove that Lauren Greenfield is one of the most interesting documentarians around.
