The education of the rising generation is an important issue related to the future development of the country. The Workers´ Party of Korea paid deep concern to education even during the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War against the US imperialists in the 1950s.
When the US imperialists provoked the Korean war on June 25, 1950, the great leader President Kim Il Sung reorganized the educational work on a war footing and wisely led the struggle to actively promote it even in the difficult circumstances.
PresidentKim Il Sung saw that separate lessons were given at schools of different levels and the schools were equipped with air-raid shelters for the life and security of students and evacuated some educational organs to safe places.

Kim Un Gyong, lecturer of the Jonsung Revolutionary Museum, says:

“It was not easy to continue education in the difficult conditions of the war. In Pyongyang City alone, buildings of universities and colleges and tens of secondary and primary schools were all burnt and destroyed by the brutal US imperialists. President Kim Il Sung aroused the whole party and people to the struggle for rehabilitating the destroyed schools and ensuring the educational conditions and wisely led the work to keep training teachers to fully meet the demand for teachers.”

President Kim Il Sung called back the scholars and university teachers from the front to keep writing textbooks and sent a large quantity of paper for publication of textbooks and study of the students during the war. Though the transport of war supplies was on the strain, he took revolutionary measures to transport a large quantity of textbooks, education materials, experimental equipment and teaching aids. His warm love for the rising generation is brilliantly recorded in the history of the Fatherland Liberation War.

In the difficult circumstances of the war, President Kim Il Sung provided all conditions for successful education and called back students from the front to the universities and visited a university under a shower of shells. And he taught that the students should study hard for the motherland to win the war. He also kindly taught the educators about the revolutionary method of education applied during the anti-Japanese armed struggle and took all measures for teachers not to feel any inconvenience in their life. Under his loving care, the school bell rang far and wide as an echo of victory during the war as well, weighing down the cannonade of the enemy. Indeed the bell rung during the war was a bell of love, a bell of victory rung by President Kim Il Sung.
Now the education of Korea has been developed onto a high stage of the universal 12-year compulsory education under the wise leadership of respected Kim Jong Un. The education of Korea will make a greater progress thanks to the correct education policy of the Workers´ Party of Korea.

The US invaded Korea first by setting up a collaborationist government against the popular will of the Korean people that forcibly kept alive the horrors, tactics, and even the command of the Japanese occupation. Compare this to North Korea, which not only was given free reign by the USSR to organize their own councils and organization, but which also used land reform and state planning to end landlordism and almost quadruple industry within a few years. Had almost every building in city not been completely bombed and millions murdered, the DPRK would be at an incredible level of development today. It is also important to remember that 20% of the North Korean population were slain by the imperialist lapdogs and that most infrastructure and living areas were firebombed to ashes. It is hard for the imperialist lapdogs such as MacArthur and those who believe in western propaganda to empathize with the North Korean model of democratic centralism, when the possibility of nuking the North Korean people were considered by the US authorities all in the name of neoliberal imperialism. Liberals will praise the United States for devising security laws such as the PATRIOT Act while berating North Korea for its democratic centralism after facing brutal oppression from the imperialist Japanese and the exploitaion by the imperialist Americans.

TLDR: Asians are seen as subhumans by white liberal Americans. They nuked Japan’s civilians. Twice. Still justify both bombings to this day. They wanted to nuke Korea’s civilians. They wanted to nuke Vietnam’s civilians. And people wonder why China is so “aggressive” about protecting itself? Maybe they’ve seen a pattern in history? When will the abhorrent Western imperialism and chauvinism end?

Korean War (25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953) and After

The first painting is Pablo Picasso’s (1881–1973) Expressionistic Massacre in Korea (1951).  It depicts the 1950 Sinchon Massacre, an act of mass killing carried out by South Korean and/or American forces in the town of Sinchon located in South Hwanghae Province, North Korea. Though the events are still much debated, the victims appear to have been communist sympathizers and North Korean civilians, including a large number of children.

In the 40’s Picasso joined the French Communist Party and  remained a loyal member of the Communist Party until his death.

The second is South Korean Oh Yun’s Hope for Unification, 1985.  I have no additional information.  In the beginning there were two clans such as their is now.

The Third painting, Catch and Kill a North Korean Soldier is just a painting made by some South Korean elementary student likely in the 1980s.

The fourth painting is a North Korean propaganda poster criticizing American Imperialism sometime near the end or after the war.

The last picture is History of Pro-Democracy Movements (1985), displayed in Seoul National University.

Propaganda materials from the Korean War illustrate the conflicts and powers at play from all sides. Here, the first image is produced by Chinese propaganda publishers, illustrating Chinese military support for the Korean People’s Army (North Korea). On the flip side, the second image (produced by US Army PSYOPs) implicates the Chinese Army as yet another conqueror of the Korean people.

Both the Chinese and US Armies utilized propaganda which attacked the other side as imperialists, aggressors, and conquerors, as seen here:

In Front of Them All.

So our DMZ/JSA tour with Koridoor today was fantastic. Intimidating at times but truly informative. I really think you’re missing out on learning a little more about what makes contemporary Koreans tick if you don’t go on a DMZ tour.

They took us into the JSA (Joint Security Area), with some help from some US Army soldiers. We got to see into North Korea right across the MDL (Military Demarcation Line) and even saw a North Korean guard darting behind pillars, watching us from a distance. We even (technically) stood in the DPRK for a few minutes.

We saw North Korea’s “Propaganda Village” from a distance, drove past the famous “Bridge of No Return”, visited Dorasan Station (the “last train station in South Korea and the first station toward North Korea”), visited Dora Observatory and went into the Third Infiltration Tunnel.

It was a very surreal experience. I don’t know about anyone else but it certainly helped me appreciated and understand Koreans, Korean attitude/identity and Korean history since the Korean War just that little bit more.

And it put all of those episodes of M*A*S*H into perspective.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, or as it is known in Korea, 6.25 전쟁. I hope you enjoy this brief fairly long post on the Korean War!

image

The Korean War officially began at 4am on the 25th of June, 1950. To this very day, the war is not officially over, making it the longest ceasefire without a peace treaty. It was fought between the democratic UN Allies, and communist North Korea, USSR, and China. 67 countries participated.

But before I get into the details of the war, here are some facts you need to know. Until the end of WWII (15 August 1945), Korea was under Japanese colonial rule, and almost immediately after WWII, the Cold War begins.

Prior to liberation (15 August 1945) when the Japanese were losing WWII, the Soviet (Russian) army advance through northern Korea. Their reason: to un-arm the Japanese soldiers and to maintain safety and peace. With the Soviet Union occupying northern Korea, the US occupy southern Korea the following month as they saw communist advancement as a threat. 3 years later, the South Korean government is formed and the North Korean government is also formed. With small fighting along the 38th parallel, a military alert is declared. However, the day before the outbreak of the Korean War, this military alert is lifted.

The war began with a surprise advancement by North Korea as they crossed the 38th parallel without warning. Within 3 days, the North Korean army captured Seoul. Within 1 month, they captured Daejeon (140km south of Seoul), and a few days later, they reached near the Nakdong River (122km south-east of Daejeon). This left only the Daegu and Busan area. On the 18th of August, only 3 weeks after the start of the war, the South Korean government was forced to move from Seoul to Busan.

North Korea had planned this attack with help from the Soviet Union (Russia) providing them with tanks and weapons, and China providing them with men. Prior to the outbreak of war (24th June 1950), North Korea had over 201,050 men, 242 tanks, 110 warships, and 226 planes. On the other hand, South Korea had 103,817 men, 0 tanks, 36 warships, and 22 planes. Although the South Korean military had informed authorities that military advancement was suspected, this was shut down. This allowed the North Korean army to swiftly and successfully capture Seoul within 3 days.

With General Douglas MacArthur as chief, military from 16 countries arrive in Busan to counter North Korea. The Battle of Inchon (Operation Chromite) succeeds on the 19th of September 1950 and Seoul is restored on the 28th of September. The South Korean army advances past the 38th parallel on the 1st of October (Armed Forces Day). 2 weeks later, Pyongyang is captured and North Korea is almost completely captured. However, with the addition of the Chinese soldiers, the war continues.

4th of January 1951, Seoul is recaptured, but an area of North Korea, Hungnam is left stranded. The South Korean army prepares to evacuate, but 100,000 refugees gather, in fear of getting killed by the North Korean army, as they had helped South Korea and its allies. As a result, all military weapons are thrown overboard and 14,000 refugees are taken onboard instead.

On the 27th of July 1953, the war is paused.

A total of 2-3 million civilians were killed, ‭1,252,934‬ were wounded, 1.6 million soldiers died, 100,000 orphans and over 1 million families were separated.

obviously l:r s2 historical au should be something like a leverage crossover with mash through one of the former’s historical romance episodes, with eliot/alec as center to complete the canon au triangle (but ot3 endgame). alec is a drafted surgeon working out of the 8063 instead of the 4077, parker is head nurse (the cheerleaders from that one episode are her nurses), and eliot is a frontline soldier who has gone through their mash unit so many times he’s got a favorite bunk in post-op. alec is just too good at his job and keeps putting eliot back together.

sophie said fuck you to sexism and is a surgeon but the usa military machine said divrsity win fuck you back by having her drafted. lowkey everyone thinks shes also somehow a spy for the antiwar movement, or the cia, or The Communists, or?? she will never confirm nor deny.

archie (the one who convinced parker to go into nursing) made a big fuss about WWI and doing your duty, so she volunteered and she found her calling and people at the 8063, esp with alec who’s friendship and eventual hardwon but sweetheart romance softened her heart. but yeah, she is not gonna be a proud vet to say the least

sterling is CO and was definitely a military brat growing up. needles eliot because hes convinced eliot keeps showing up to his mash because hes either incompetent or trying to get sent back home. probably calls sidney on eliot. eliot is just very unlucky and also wildly protective and has a martyr complex a mile long.

nate the priest volunteered because he thought it was where he was being called cuz it’s where he was most needed but yeahhhhh war broke him real quick. happened over a clearly Fifteen Year Old Lied On His Paperwork sam died in post op from infection despite all of the doctors best attempts to keep this little boy alive. runs the units gin still but wishes it could be whiskey.

take your pick on what the B Plot heist/con is but A Plot is all alec and eliot being all strangers butting heads over the war (eliot volunteered and is very patriotic at first) to friends (eliot never gets mail so alec shares some of his from his giant family) to yearning crushes to lovers with parker right there falling in love with them both too. also sidney and hawkeye inexplicably show up??
