Hi all. Here’s a little thing I made, and feel a little weird about posting…I can’t afford to lay Mr. B to rest as I’d like to, and the only option besides cremation (unfortunately, based on where I am) is throwing him in the dumpster. I really, really don’t want to have to do that. But with moving costs to pay back and an unexpected issue I’ve been avoiding fixing with my car, I don’t have money to spare for “extras” and this is an “extra”…

Thank you for any help at all. I’ve never done one of these before, so I don’t know how long it will take to raise what I’ll need - or if I’ll even get there! But even part of the way there is closer than I can get doing it alone. Share, and help if you can. If you can’t, that’s ok too, kind words are also welcome. I’ll figure it out somehow <3

Reblogging - thank you so much to all who have contributed so far. It really means a lot to me! Things have been busy here and I’ve been picking up extra work to pay my bills, but I’m hoping to get some new photos up soon. <3

“I think it is all a matter of love; the more you love a memory the stronger and stranger it becomes.”
— Vladimir Nabokov
[Moonlit Night, Isaac Levitan]

• Vladimir Nabokov lives with his wife Véra in the Montreux Palace Hotel in Montreux, Switzerland, a resort city on Lake Geneva which was a favorite of Russian aristocrats of the last century. They dwell in a connected series of hotel rooms that, like their houses and apartments in the United States, seem impermanent, places of exile. Their rooms include one used for visits by their son Dmitri, and another, the chambre de debarras, where various items are deposited—Turkish and Japanese editions of Lolita, other books, sporting equipment, an American flag. • One thing you will notice about Levitan’s landscape paintings is how diverse they are in terms of style and subject. His academic training allowed him to be such a versatile painter and, like many of the other Russian masters, it appears he was not timid about experimenting with his style and technique. Some paintings are delicately rendered and realistic, whilst others are bold and impressionistic. More: https://drawpaintacademy.com/isaac-levitan/

I look at her as a reason
to wake up in the morning.
I look at her as the reason
to be better, to grow and change
and be more than myself.
I look at her as the most beautiful
thing that ever walked this earth,
but she already looks at me like I’m
just
another
memory.

Give To The Greyhounds For Giving Tuesday!

We know we ask for your monetary support a lot, and we are asking again today, November 30th, 2021, for Giving Tuesday! Please give just a little more today so that you can be a part of our continuing success stories and know you made a difference with every adoption announcement!

Since inception in 2001, GALT has re-homed more than 3,800 hounds. Indeed, we are now the largest greyhound adoption organization in the United States with operations in Dallas,AustinandAlbuquerque. In recent years, we have welcomed an average of 178 hounds per year to our family. Just last week, our Dallas operations welcomed five girls from Greyhound farms and, in just one week in October, the Dallas team welcomed 19 new hounds to the GALT family. More will come, and we can’t wait to introduce you to them.

The expenses for so many hounds add up. Our annual operating costs currently exceed $693,000 and consist mostly of veterinary and boarding costs. The majority of hounds joining the GALT family require a spay or neuter, dental, vaccinations, micro-chipping and a thorough veterinary exam. These costs typically add up to at least $750 per hound. Some hounds also need treatment for tick borne diseases, heartworm or serious injuries such as a broken leg. The veterinary expenses incurred to prepare these hounds for forever homes can run into the thousands. But, we remain committed to our mantra of “no grey turned awaytm,” regardless of the circumstances or medical condition. Our sweet, young girl, Memory, is a great example. She has CUPS, which will require four pricey oral surgeries to remove her affected teeth.

If you give to our Giving Tuesday Facebook fundraiser today, November 30th, Facebook might match part or all of your donation. You can read more about their matching program here. If you prefer not to give on Facebook, we understand. Any of the funds on our website are also available for your Giving Tuesday gifts. Thank you!

[…] body memory carries with it a fundamental ambiguity: the body’s memory of places belongs to us as personal subjects and simultaneously can remain at odds with our personal recollection of the past. […] Traumatic memory is one especially visceral way that the body can become a host for a living history that the traumatized subject is alienated from despite being constituted by that past. But this sense of body memory as being the site of a different past is not limited to trauma. […] the role of body memory can help explain phenomenon such as hauntings. Both trauma and hauntings call upon the idea that the body has a hidden teleology that strives toward the preservation of self, even if that self is now a materialization of self-estrangement, now ill-at-home in its flesh.

this is my dashboard on desktop (they have a really convenient, easy to use app, too!)

What habitica does is it turns your daily tasks, your habits that you want to form, and your to do list into an rpg game. You level up, gain experience, and play the game just by marking things as done on your to do list. You can put literally anything in there, too. whenever i have a big project i’ve gotta do, I put every step, down to the letter, in habitica (which is a fucking superb way to xp farm while still staying organized).

The game is super fun because if you’re like me, and you work best with a rewards-based system, you’re literally in heaven. Everything you do gets you points, and bonus stuff, and helps you unlock parts of the game.

If you struggle to get your shit done, seriously check out habitica. It’s free and I’ve only been using it for like 2 weeks and I already have a vastly different mindset than I used to about keeping myself on track.

I’ve tried this, it works.

Soon I’ll go away
I’ll leave a trail
of melancholy and regrets
but fear not
you can find me
in a misplaced memory
you remembered to forget

I took this portrait of Bryn Kelly in 2012, almost 4 years ago to the day. It was in the middle of a freezing, dark winter, and looking at it I’m reminded of some specials months with Bryn. One memory that came to me this morning and made me laugh was when we went to studio audience tapings of both Martha Stewart and Anderson Cooper’s day-time tv shows within the same week, both days leaving with armfuls of really hilarious (yet free!) swag, including SPANX buy-one-get-one coupons, make-up and foot creams created by reality tv stars, truffle honey, “very expensive” salami sticks and the big hit: Olive Garden gift cards, which we of course used immediately.

My heart goes out to everyone who was and continues to be inspired by the life, love and art of Bryn Kelly. She made a mark on so many of our lives.

You can donate to Bryn’s memorial fund here and find information on upcoming services here.

“Sex is not only in the instant, since the body’s entire life is inscribed in the folds of that flesh, […] jouissance, when it comes, is made up of infinitesimal strata of memory and forgetting, and not of a second of eternity.”
