I went to a high school where I was one of three black kids in my whole graduating class. On a regular basis, I experienced antiblack (+ antiqueer) violence in the hallways, in the bathroom, in the lunchroom, and sometimes even in my “safe space” that was theater.
I still hear the matronizing misogynoir of the white teachers who instructed me to cover myself up with jackets because my budding hips and breasts made my clothes “too tight” which “violated the dress code.”
I still feel the hands that grabbed at my hair, poked, touched, and reduced my black body to a spectacle of curiosity and cruelty.
I still catch a certain tightness in my throat when I remember the upperclassmen who asked if I had a “thug side” or why I didn’t talk ghetto “like other black girls.”
Though I did not know who Pauli Murray, Audre Lorde, James Baldwin, or bell hooks were at the time, my parents, aunties, godmothers, and elders taught me the resistance work of Sidney Poitier, the ancestral healing of Maya Angelou, the self-determination of Malcolm X, and the love language of Martin Luther King Jr.
In this time of heightened segregationist violence, antiqueer legislation, and imperialist politics and proxy wars, we are all in search of moving castles that bring us peace and a sense of belonging. While the waterways of decolonization are filled with growing pains, sorrow, healing, and wrath there are also rivers that overflow with a love that celebrates our existence.
There is no perfect solution to combating violence in any form, but in an ecosystem of white supremacy, we would be fools to reduce Protect Black Women to a battle cry and not recognize it as a declaration of love.
Yacouba Sawadogo is an exceptional man – he single-handedly managed to solve a crisis that many scientists and development organizations could not. The simple old farmer’s re-forestation and soil conservation techniques are so effective they’ve helped turn the tide in the fight against the desertification of the harsh lands in northern Burkina Faso.
Over-farming, over-grazing and over population have, over the years, resulted in heavy soil erosion and drying in this landlocked West African nation. Although national and international researchers tried to fix the grave situation, it really didn’t really make much of a difference. Until Yacouba decided to take matters into his own hands in 1980.
Yacouba’s methods were so odd that his fellow farmers ridiculed him. But when his techniques successfully regenerated the forest, they were forced to sit up and take notice. Yacouba revived an ancient African farming practice called ‘zai’, which led to forest growth and increased soil quality.

Ancestor Corrie is not a martyr. She was and still is an example of what decolonizing whiteness looks like. Whether you place yourself in the pathway to defend land sovereignty, attend school board meetings to hold space alongside parents and organizers of color, help organize food/resource drives to help houseless people in your community, or carpool neighbors to the polls during midterms, we ALL have a responsibility to disrupt and upRoot injustice at home and around the world.
A group of elementary schoolers came to the Zora Neale Hurston Museum today, blending the lessons on slavery, folklore, and afrofuturism with their own dreams and great big thinks about black superheroes, traveling to faraway places (and galaxies), and which ninja moves from Naruto were the coolest.
Several hours later, 18 children and 3 educators are killed not by a “a lone wolf” or a “monster” but by an ecosystem constructed by agents of empire who commodify the lives of the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our communities for profit …
These agents will turn their eyes away from the Black, brown, and beige people murdered in Buffalo, Dallas, Uvalde and all the places that didn’t make the news. They will mutter “thoughts and prayers” and tweet quotes about healing and peace as they continue to build their wealth on imperial systems that erase history lessons, silence our ancestral identities, erode accessible (and sustainable) mental health services, and stripped away reproductive and social services for communities across color and class lines.
What is happening will keep happening unless we upRoot our miseducated understanding about this Lovecraft country of ours, and start cultivating politics and day-to-day practices that move beyond these poisoned (hu)manmade ecosystems.

Γι’αυτο το λόγω κάποιοι φροντίζουν να «βομβαρδιστούν» ακατάπαυστα οι κοινωνίες από κατασκευασμένες πληροφορίες , παραποιημένες ειδήσεις , αλλά και γεγονότα που υπηρετούν τον ίδιο στόχο : τη διαιώνιση του συστήματος επιβολής, εκμετάλλευσης και λεηλασίας. Μείωση θέσεων εργασίας που υποτιθέμενα οφείλεται στην μεταφορά εργοστασίων και εταιριών σε άλλες χώρες του εξωτερικού. Μια αιτία του ‘φαίνεσθαι’ καθώς η πραγματικότητα είναι ότι η ανισόρροπη ανάπτυξη της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας με τη μεγέθυνση των αναδυόμενων οικονομιών που αποσπούν όλο και μεγαλύτερο μερίδιο της παγκόσμιας πίτας, ο κορεσμός στις αναπτυγμένες χώρες που καθηλώνει την κατανάλωση καθώς και η ραγδαία επέκταση του αυτοματισμού και της ρομποτοποίησης είναι οι πραγματικοί λόγοι που ποτε δε θα ακουστούν αφού προφανώς θα απογοητεύαν ψηφοφόρους..Μια νέα εποχή για τις αναπτυγμένες δυτικές οικονομίες που το ανθρώπινο προσωπικό δεν φαίνεται τόσο αναγκαίο . Τηλεκατευθυνόμενα αεροπλάνα , αυτοκίνητα χωρίς οδηγούς και εισπράκτορες,ηλεκτρονικό ταχυδρομείο , σπουδές από το σπίτι και σκούπες ρομπότ είναι ελάχιστες από τις χιλιάδες εφαρμογές του αυτοματισμού που συνεχίζει να επεκτείνεται. Η οικονομία στο κόστος παραγωγής , η ευκολία στην χρήση αλλά και το γρήγορο αποτέλεσμα κάνουν τον αυτοματισμό σίγουρα ελκυστικό . Οι εταιρίες που κερδίζουν από αυτήν την εξέλιξη ισχυρίζονται ότι η ανάπτυξη θα δημιουργεί συνεχώς νέες θέσεις εργασίας που θα αναπληρώνουν τις χαμένες. Αλλά η πραγματικότητα διαψεύδει τον ισχυρισμό αυτό. Ενώ οι εταιρίες αυξάνουν λοιπόν την παραγωγικότητα και τα κέρδη τους , οι θέσεις εργασίας μειώνονται . Με κάθε είδος software αχρηστεύονται και άλλοι αριθμοί εργαζομενων . Η υπερανάπτυξη του καπιταλισμού ταυτίζεται με την υπερσυγκέντρωση του πλούτου και τη φτωχοποίηση ακόμα και των μεσαίων στρωμάτων που για μερικές δεκαετίες που για μερικές δεκαετίες εξασφάλιζαν ένα ικανοποιητικό μερίδιο ευζωίας . Και τι θα γίνει με τους ανθρώπους που θα χάσουν την δουλειά τους ; Ή μάλλον έχω μια καλύτερη ερώτηση . Τι θα γίνει με αυτούς τους ανθρώπους που δεν χουν ήδη τιποτα; Τι σκέφτηκες όταν είδες αυτήν την φωτογραφία ; Ήταν αυτός ο κόσμος που ονειρευόσουν οντας ένα μικρό παιδι ; Γιατί εάν ρίξεις μια μάτια γύρω σου , οι άνθρωποι παραπονιούνται που δεν έχουν το τελευταίο στην κυκλοφορία κινητό , που δεν έχουν αρκετά ρούχα , που δεν έχουν λεφτά να αγοράσουν αυτο το ακριβό ρολόι ή τις μάρκες . Την επόμενη φορά που θα δεις κάποιον να παραπονιέται λοιπόν ή αν και εσυ ξεχαστείς και το κανεις δείξε ή δες ξανά αυτήν την φωτογραφία και θύμισε ή θυμήσου ότι ο κόσμος που ζεις ‘παταει’ τον κόσμο αυτών των ανθρώπων όπως και κάποιοι άλλοι ‘πατάνε’ στον δικό μας. Και αν διαβάζεις αυτο το κείμενο μέχρι και τώρα , ένα άτομο μπορεί να κάνει την διαφορα . Φτάνει να δούμε τους πραγματικούς μας εχθρούς · και τοτε θα καταφέρουμε να κάνουμε τον κόσμο καλυτερο για αυτούς τους ανθρώπους, χωρίς καμία πολυεθνική εταιρεία , χωρίς κανέναν καπιταλισμό .
