So this year, the community wrote another letter — because we are sad and angry, but also because we are full of love for our families and have hope for a more just and equitable future.”

The first set of 2020 letters includes:

when you hear “the U.S. government is gassing children at the border,” if your immediate reaction is to say “yeah those scumbag parents brought their children to use as human shields” you’re racist. like there is no other explanation for leaping past the obvious conclusion that people are obviously going to take their fucking children with them when they’re migrating to another country. there is no other explanation other than you do not view these people as human. all disagreements with this post can be redirected to your ass hole

I’m surprised that they’re going to bother doing anything.

Here’s the article.

TW: There are pictures of violence on there. It only displays one at a time but it starts with an upsetting one. (No blood as far as I can tell, but the man has a cast on his arm.) The black box in the photo is covering a man covered in blood.

We are tired of our bodies constantly being on the line of fire and being targeted by the police.

It’s time to rise up, empower ourselves and each other, and shut it down.

We will no longer be the targets of the police. Young people all over the country are fighting against police brutality/violence. We are fighting against police brutality/violence.

This young man lost his father due to lies of politicians, he find out about his father’s death day after he died, they didn’t even bother telling him until he came to the hospital to give him fruit and supplies.

Because of media lies he had to post his death certificate and picture of his grave so people would believe him

BELGRADE, JULY 2020 (photos by @/bratvinski on IG)

This is a very serious situation, please extend your passion towards the protests in the US to the people of Serbia as well.

If you were to google the situation going on there right now, you’d find most international news sources claiming that these protests are over the new lockdown measures. This is not true. Other people have recapped this better than I will, but essentially these protests are against the current government and it’s been a long time coming. The citizens of Serbia were lied to regarding the covid19 situation (the number of infected and death toll was fabricated and the government lied about the healthcare system’s capacity to cope with the pandemic), and the president (dictator) abandoned the quarantine in order to manipulate and rig the elections last month in his favor. All of this was the final straw for the years of oppression the people of Serbia have been facing under the government’s rule. Spontaneous peaceful protests started happening a few days ago as a result and they have been met with police brutality.

What I’m asking is that you please take what the Serbian people are saying seriously and spread the ACCURATE information around. The president has had the country in a tight chokehold for years. It is vital that this does NOT lose momentum.

Imagine an animal that would kill you if you made one wrong move around it.

People would classify that animal as dangerous. People would do everything they could to stay as far away from that animal as possible. People would be completely justified in being afraid whenever they’re near that animal.

But when the animal is a police officer, people see the animal as a hero.

PLEASE SEE WHATS HAPPENING IN BELARUS. they need ur attention!

rapeculturerealities:

On May 31, a Black pregnant woman in Austin said she was shot by police in the abdomen with rubber bullets. That same day, the Colorado Doula Project shared a post on Instagram about other potential dangers to pregnant protesters. “Tear gas is an abortifacient,” the post read, explaining that the chemical has been linked to higher rates of miscarriage and stillbirth. Rodriguez’s post quickly made its way onto Twitter, where protesters like Stewart began sharing the reproductive health impacts that they had felt after exposure to tear gas. Some tweeted about breakthrough bleeding despite their use of IUDs; other trans people shared that despite taking testosterone, they were having periods as well.

Since the Black Lives Matter protests began, police have deployed tear gas in 100 American cities. Watchdog groups, activists, and public officials have raised concerns about the safety of tear gas, a compound banned for use in wartime by the Geneva Convention, especially as the United States grapples with the effects of a respiratory pandemic. Although research is limited, some have suggested that tear gas may also be linked to higher rates of miscarriage, and anecdotal evidence has suggested it may induce cause changes in menstruation, though there’s not enough research to definitively prove that. For many Black protesters on the frontlines of demonstrations, the use of chemical weapons is not only a reminder of the police violence they are protesting against, but of a long legacy of state violence in their reproductive lives.

It may be hard to feel anything but anger, sadness, and helplessness in the wake of police shootings

It may be hard to feel anything but anger, sadness, and helplessness in the wake of police shootings. But we need to remember that we can live in a world where police don’t kill people. We don’t have to accept this violence as normal.

Campaign Zero, a group dedicated to ending police violence that was launched last year by Black Lives Matter activists, offers research-based solutions for 10 policy areas that need dramatic reform in order to end police killings.
