I bought this stunning late 19th Century « nécessaire » at a Paris flea market several years ago.
While the gorgeous scissors don’t cut as well as I’d like, the thimble is near perfection. It’s a bit of a risk as its previous owner used it so much that there are two holes in the tip, but it fits so much better than any modern thimble. The needle case also keeps a petite bodkin, should I need to thread some ribbon through something. So much more elegant than a safety pin.
I’ve yet to use the stiletto, but I do love having it.

So since I’m working with some more sensitive fabrics like silk for Kylo, I didn’t want to risk scorching my fabric. So I picked up a shoe for my iron. This one is made by Woolite; it’s not a perfect fit for my home iron, as it’s a little on the big side, but it fits far better than I thought it would. Hopefully, this’ll help my pressing, and my sewing, be that much better. ❤️

Let’s talk scars. This line of scar tissue was nearly invisible on the surface. It takes practice and training to see what lies beneath the pretty surface.
A lot of my work is grading leather and cutting around problem areas to build the most beautiful and resilient gear possible. Scar tissue is tighter, denser and less flexible than the rest of the hide. As the whole piece flexes, this line will stretch less and be more likely to split. It may take years. Maybe it will never happen. It’s my job to remove “maybe”

My polishing have taken another step forward.

I stopped rushing and lightened my pressure. Taking the time to focus on proper technique understandably improved my result and efficiency. Fewer mistakes need correcting when you think through each step.

However, the amount of time I spent resting and healing my hands was most troublesome. If I want to keep doing this for years I need my hands to keep working.

Accuracy doesn’t come from rigidity. Consistency matters much more. Relax and let the tool do its job.

Take care of your lungs.
I’ve been working on a negative pressure tent for turning and it’s finally up and running. I’m very serious about containing wood and leather dust.
It’s a matter of both cleanliness and respiratory health. Wear your respirator even for small jobs. I wear mine even in the tent with the dust collector running.
Machines are on temporary surfaces until I can buy another Frontier bench, but flogger production is gearing up.

I already want another. It would be the perfect leathercraft workbench if the work surface were just a few inches deeper. I’m considering buying another, mounting the peg board on a wall, pushing the two back to back, and skinning the top with heavy plywood to make the ultimate cutting table. Definitely not in the budget for this month.

Yesterday’s video was such a hit, thought we should dive further! We have two industrial Juki sergers that we use for many tasks. By adjusting the differential, which controls both front and rear feed dogs, we can gather to our hearts content. This tends to be a looser gathering that works great for doing ruffles or bodies within a quick time frame. The other day I bought Making Winter book for Kindle by @silverpebble2 . it is a gorgeous book. A wooden hand made crochet hook in one of the photos attracted my attention. I so wanted one. I have access to a ton of wooden twigs, plus any possible tools I may need (although turned out I only needed a Stanley knife and a dremmel tool I had at home). So I thought I might as well have a go at making one. I made six. And they work! I am so pleased with my little twiggy hooks .
