Gavin DeGraw – Face the River
Multi-platinum recording artist Gavin DeGraw has released his very personal new single “Face The River,” which is the title track from his forthcoming album out May 20 via RCA Records. On the track, written by DeGraw, his distinct intonation quivers above sparse piano before the organ-laden beat simmers. This slow-burn catches fire on a heavenly hook as he croons, “Try to face the river. I cannot…

“dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true
when will you realise, Vienna waits for you?”
-Vienna by Billy Joel
being in your 20s and 30s is billy joel’s “slow down, you crazy child” and “slow down you’re doing fine, you can’t be everything you want to be before your time” and “though you can see when you’re wrong, you know you can’t always see when you’re right” all of a sudden and curling up around yourself, on the floor where it’s cool and calm, because yes I have to, and yes I am, and there is so much time and we are not running out because we are so so young in this world.
Willie Nelson, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Kim Carnes, Billy Joel, Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen during the recording of “We Are The World’‘1985
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the valley of
To a river so
I’ve been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I would never
Something somebody s̲t̲o̲l̲e̲
Slow down you’re doing fine. You can’t be everything you want to be before your time.
Billy Joel - Vienna
There was this thread trending on Twitter where people are sharing some of their Billy Joel concert stories!
i saw billy in 2015 and while playing we didn’t start the fire there was a fly on stage. he grabbed a fly swatter from under the piano and continued to play the song with one hand while swatting at the fly with the other hand
Vienna
Billy Joel
you got your passion, you got your pride
but don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?
dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true
when will you realize Vienna waits for you?
slow down you crazy child;
slow down you’re doing fine.

this week i found a playlist on spotify for bonnaroo. i’m not going to bonnaroo, and i don’t really care that i’m not. but i did see a bunch of billy joel tunes on the playlist because he’s one of the headliners.
this song i’ve always loved, but hit me a bit more right now because somewhere along the line everyone has gotten so caught up in achieving goals and reaching dreams and we’ve forgotten how to just enjoy life day by day. we always have something to work towards, something to do, more money to make, more promotion to do for a business we’ve just started on etsy or instagram, plans to make, work to do to create our future. we’ve forgotten how to be in the present.
don’t get me wrong. i love being ambitious and goal-oriented. having goals and dreams is absolutely the best way to live, but we also really need to enjoy the process. realize it’s okay if you fall a bit off track sometimes. realize it’s okay that your ambitions aren’t on schedule if you’re enjoying the process (enjoying life). it’s okay to forget about ‘hustling’ sometimes. you can afford to lose a day or two.
mostly it’s about finding the right balance between being determined but enjoying every second of where you are now.
“And every time I’ve held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you, soon, I suppose…”
and the most he will do is throw shadows at you but he’s always a vulcan to me
