#song recs
please rb this and tag the song you’d like to be fucked raw to
I looked back at my blog archive and was surprised to see that my last music recommendations post was in November 2020—almost a year ago! Well I did have my Mandarin Music March challenge, but I’m not counting that. Here’s an update on what I’ve been listening to the last 6 months or so.
Tanya Chua
I have included Tanya Chua in past recommendation posts and featured a few of her songs on my blog, but I’ve been listening to her constantly this year, so I wanted to highlight her amazing music again. I am not a huge ballad/slow song fan, but I love hers. And she does great upbeat pop songs too.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
Eason Shen
Have you ever wondered what country-inspired Mandopop would sound like? Well you can find out right now. I discovered Eason Shen during my August challenge. He also has more typical pop songs, from slow and calm to uptempo to soulful.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
*First two songs are the ones with country influence.
Yoga Lin
Yoga Lin is another artist I’d heard of but overlooked for whatever reason. I checked out one of his albums during my August music challenge and instantly fell in love. He’s already become one of my top 10 most played artists of 2021. I would describe a lot of his music as pop rock.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
Karen Mok
I made the mistake of not checking out Karen Mok earlier because I assumed most of her music was in Cantonese—she has actually released more Mandarin albums than Cantonese! Her older albums have some great rock-leaning and almost grungy tracks, and I love some of her more recent slow songs.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
A-Mei
A-Mei is a Mandopop legend. She has a very powerful voice that works well for slow, emotional ballads and face-paced rock songs alike. I see her songs covered on various singing shows often as well. I particularly enjoy her more bombastic ballads and the rock tracks from her AMIT albums.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
LaLa Hsu
I’ve known about LaLa Hsu for years, but I never explored her music much until more recently. I was pleasantly surprised by the versatility of her voice and the diversity of her discography! It’s been about 4 years since her last album, so I’m hoping she has something in the works.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
Andrew Tan
I first heard of Andrew Tan through a cover of his song 天后 by Jeno Liu 刘力扬. Both versions are great, and I recommend you give both a listen. Anyway, Andrew Tan has a very deep, rich voice with a lot of soul. His newest album has some great pop hits that I can’t get out of my head.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
Hebe Tien
Hebe is another artist I neglected to check out sooner because I had heard her song 《不醉不会》 years ago and didn’t care for it. However, her latest album really struck a chord with me, so I’ve been going through her discography. She has some fantastic slow, emotional songs and some stuff with more edge too.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
Li Ronghao
Watching Li Ronghao on 青春有你3 inspired me to finally check out his music. I definitely get the hype. His style is pretty distinctive (but I honestly don’t think I can describe it well) and he releases a lot of long 4:30-5:00+ minute songs, so he’s not for everyone, but I saved at least a couple songs from all of his albums.
Favorite album:
Favorite songs:
Eason Chan
I’ve just started exploring Eason Chan’s discography, but so far there’s a lot to like. As a Hong Kong singer, he has Cantonese and Mandarin albums (and some albums with both languages), but I’m just sticking to Mandarin for now. I can’t wait to hear more soon!
Favorite album (so far): 认了吧(2007)
Favorite songs (so far): 烟味、让我留在你身边、快乐男生、放弃治疗、陪你度过漫长岁月
Other songs I’ve been loving:
- 黑色天空 - 路嘉欣 / Jozie Lu
Angsty, brooding, emo perfection.
A grand rock song that builds.
True to its name, feels cold and apathetic like ice - 温室狂花 - 艾薇 / Ivy
Loud and in your face, but in a good way.
Rock-infused song filled with emotion.
This song packs a punch as powerful as its message.
A dark song for singing your heart out.
Casual and gritty but with a delicate bounce.
I’m love with this song
song recs: turn to stone by ingrid michaelson
It has come to my attention that not everyone is aware of Dacre Montgomery’s (billy from stranger things) anthology podcast. Please, I beg of you. Go give it a listen, it’s called DKMH and you can find it on Spotify. imo the first vol is superior The cover art is so pretty too

The cloud says,“It is time to go.”
The night says,“I will follow.”
The ocean says,“I have met the shore, myself I am no more.”
Sorrow says,“I stay quiet, hidden in his footprints”
I say,“I desire nothing more than to dissolve into your soul”
The world says,“For you I have prepared the welcoming garlands.”
The sky says,“ For you millions of lamps shine on the path.”
Love says,“I have waited for you, awake, since aeons.”
Death says,“It is I who rows the boat of your life.”

Song recs???
I’m in desperate need of some songs about someone you’ve met and got along with really well but they’re dating someone else so you know it can’t go anywhere. And not a song romanticizing cheating or anything. Like there was no old relationship where they’re an ex, just someone you’ve met who’s already in a relationship.
I hope this makes sense. My feelings need a soundtrack
Mumumumuch is out now, and as usual, mamamoo never dissapoint. Overall, I can see how the song can be the sort of song that will gain a lot of unique listeners as it is the type of song that you can listen to while you’re doing something else and it simply would remain fresh
Ok, bear with me, I’m gonna let my inner moomoo out.
If you asked me which songs I like the best in the album….
Ahhhh I can’t choose which song is the best in the album (oh well, this is the best album after all)
But since I’m a big fan of rock music, I would highly recommend you to listen to this version of gogobebe. To be honest, out of all title songs for 4season, gogobebe is the one I listen to the least. But that might change because of this version
But I also would recommend you to listen to 2021 version of you’re the best, it sounds different from the original!
I like this version more because the vibe is more mature and sounded more badass, if I have to describe it, the original is like love confession from a freshman and the new version is like being tease by a senior who definitely knows that you have a crush on them
This is also worth mentioning, I really like moonbyul’s part in heeheehaheho, I don’t think it’s there in the original there. The song is very cute
There’s not much difference with words don’t come easy-though it still sounds great, a little bit sounds great as always, it’s one of the song that best showcase mamamoo’s vocal but also very underrated and that is unfair
There are also some part change that I think is a very huge improvement
Piano man is a lot sexier that I remember and it’s very clear how much they’ve mature in 7 years
AHH Oop, this song, THIS SONG. THIS IS THE SONG. IF YOU’RE A MOOMOO AND REFUSE TO GIVE THIS SONG A LISTEN I’LL BREAK INTO YOUR HOME AND FORCE YOU TO LISTEN TO IT.
As you might know the original is a collab with Esna. They did once perform it without esna but their voice lack the maturity that esna has at the time. But this time though, they did it perfectly, they’ve gain the maturity and the vibe is immaculate. What are you doing??? Go listen to it NOW
Aya is awkward to listen to at first, but it has my heart as I got used to it. The INSTRUMENTAL IS INSANE I REALLY LIKE IT. It gave this mythical legend vibe, like mythical goddess of the past about to go to war with each other kinda vibe
Wind flower is the song you find in a very intense slice of life coming of age movie, I like the part around the end, it really brought out the drama
I was smiling the whole time while listening to um oh ah yeh, simply iconic, it got the same improvement that you’re the best has
Back in 2014,when mamamoo is still a rookie, one would think, hey, their vocals are superior! At the time I thought, surely they have already reached peak perfomance in terms of vocal. Nope, I was wrong. This new version of Mr ambiguous slap me in the face and tell me that I’m wrong. They manage to become greater than great.
I only intend to post fanart but ended up with an essay, I was listening to the album while writing all of this after all. There are 23 songs in that album and if I were to describe all of them this will be 10 pages long.
Overall the album has no miss, every song allows you to recall the feeling you have when you first listen to it but with better vocal, instrument and arrangement. There’s truly no skip in this blessed album
If you manage to read this far, why don’t you share your thoughts on the album? In my opinion this is definitely the best album worthy of its name
listen to this song while the weather is cold is the best try on!
“and i hope that i sing through your memory”
