LIVE

My final version of Mollymauk’s coat, with all of the beading done, sparkling in the sunlight. It was a lot of time and effort for just a little bit of shimmer but I’m very happy with it.

In process of working on a Kylo Ren helmet. Using a child-sized Rubies helmet as a base. It came as two pieces, so I’m glueing the seams with rubber cement and then going to go in with bondo on the outside seam to fill in the cracks. Going to need a lot of sanding!

Testing out some makeup for MinMin from Arms. Gonna have to wait to do the full cosplay, but man, did I have fun with this! Wig is from Arda, but it’s not the right cut for this cosplay. Might cut it or get another wig for it.

Hey y'all! Here’s part 2 of the making of my White Lotus Pai Sho Piece!

In this video, I fill in more of the details of the White Lotus flower and it’s petals. Mostly just freehanded and with acrylic paints. Stay tuned to part 3 to see the finished piece!

Dying my Katara swimsuit. Hoping to get it finished for this weekend to do a test shot photo shoot!

Build books: Sample pages!

As a followup to my PSA on buildbooks, here are some samples from my 4 latest big build books (I’m still working on Venusaur’s).

Sakizo and Peach were both designed as PDFs using Canva (which is free). The PDF for Sakizo was printed and added to a binder, while Peach is still digital only. Canva makes it easy to find arrange elements on the fly and align things. But, as you can see in the first proof, it lacks a good spell/grammar check!

Onyxia’s was done with an older method, in Photoshop. I made templates using rulers and went between three different layouts with a few minimal elements. My goal is to add some physical scrapbook ingredients elements to it at some point.

She-ra’s was my favorite and the most time consuming. I treated the whole thing as a scrapbook, and used my Cameo to cut vinyl elements (the same vectors I created and cut for the armor) and to write out all my text using the pen tool. I also went nuts with washing tape and stickers.

Each book I set out with a different guiding aesthetic theme, because I like them to each be a little unique. Some are simple, some are complex. But most importantly they display the information in a logical progression and in a neat way.

Bonus: I also keep a stash book, with swatches of all the fabric I use. And most importantly, where I got it and how much in case I need to reorder.

Did some work over the weekend on the fine details. I made the beaded drop belt, the choker, and finished up the ear muffs. The sleeves are still just pinned, since I’m waiting for more small 2.9mm pearls for the cat’s eye cabochon borders. Once those are all set I can close up and actually stitch the sleeves on. And of course finish the 6 more layers to the last tier of the petticoat.

Right now, with the completion of the choker, you’re looking at 4,956 beads on this dress. By the time the sleeves and wig are done, definitely gonna pass the 5,000 mark!

So… going on about 3 weeks now since I started this beast?

I’ve been too busy making two costumes to post any WIP here, ack! But here are some recent progress shots on Prince Todoroki from the Fantasy AU! It’s one of the fanciest costumes I’ve ever made hahah, and has been fun actually. I spent a long time with the vest, the whole thing is quilted to create a flowy design throughout. The clasps are done with Thibra which I’ve been getting better at with these projects (it’s my first time!) Maybe I’ll show off the boots too at some point, they are also quite A Lot.

I’ll be at AUSA… next weekend?! (Already ahh!?) anyone else going?

Still roughing things out. Attempted to make a wig. I had already tried gluing it to my scalp and I THINK it’ll work. It passed a few hair whip tests. That prosthetic nose might stay or go. I am unsure how I feel about it… contacts are ordered but they’re apparently getting lost in the mail.

Update: the nose is going! It was meh for the caharceter and I accidently ripped it with my fucking beautifully brutish goblin hands.

End of 2021 is as good a time as any to work on a new project, so here are some progress shots of Eivor. I used my Cricut to cut out a knotting pattern with felt and tacked it down as a guide for the shirt embroidery. So far so good!

Quick Eivor update. I’m about 50% done with the embroidery now that I’ve finished the sleeves. I expect the bottom hem will be wrapped some time this week and then it’s on to the gambeson! …which will cover most of this embroidery anyway but isn’t that always how this goes.

Cos-test of Sailor Neptune! She’s even more fun to wear than I thought she’d be, though I’m probably going to freeze my ass off at Katsucon… so most likely won’t be in this one very long.

I learned a lot about what not to do when making Sailor Fuku and #1 is do NOT choose a non-stretch fabric for the skirt/collar/glove ends. Even if you find the PERFECT color in poly satin… these parts really would have been better off if they had some stretch too them. Oh well, live & learn!
