Meet Little Bat!!! The protagonist of “Letters to a Little Bat”, the book I’m illustrating for @adkaschak !!! A shy, sweet bat girl who maaaaay not be as comfortable with her nocturnal lifestyle as her peers…!

Saoirse blinked ones, all around him seemed like reduced into slow motion. His ears were hurting from the metallic ringing , cold air blew in his face then absolute silence. The forest had become a tomb.
Then another blink and there it was, it looked like the red glowing eye filled the entire sky blotting out all the stars above.
Saoirse: “ Annnnnaaa ! ” even his screams sounded slowed down
Anna was gradually lifting her arms up towards the eye that focused in on her. Saoirse was able to see from her lips moving that Anna seemed to talk to it…why would she not get the hell away from it ?
His body felt like it weighed ten tons, each step was a torture and his mind kept insisting that he would never make it in time. Though it wasn’t like Saoirse to give up.
Saoirse: “ Ahhhhhhh ! ”
He screamed charging up all his energy and gave it his all to run as fast as he could to catch onto Anna.
Anna had lost all sense of time and direction, like under a spell she had followed blindly the voice of her missing sister. She kept calling out for Hannah and asking where she was ? But Anna would never get a direct answer but just hear whispers here and there calling out to her.
The woods were dark and the cold had reached her bones. It got harder and harder to concentrate on the whispers. She greeted her teeth when the air began to fill with a low metallic hum.
Saoirse had struggled his way through the woods, madly searching for Anna. He hadn’t stopped to catch his breath or anything when behind some trees he could finally make out her shape.
He called for her as loud as he could but Anna gave no reaction.
Going a few hours back just after Anna’s bedroom window flew open and she called down from the initial shock she sat up in bed. She listened to the hurling wind for a moment, did she really here her sister’s voice ?
Anna: “ Hannah is that you ? ”
She shivered, it became really cold really fast inside her room. Then the room filled with whispers of Hannah calling for her - she sounded sad and lost.
Tears streamed down Anna’s face.
Meanwhile Liona and Sarai were sleeping deeply, exhausted from the intense research work they had done the last couple of days.
Mitras was still awake in bed, he had s bad feeling in his gut and didn’t want to miss a message from Saoirse if it came.
Saoirse had finally fallen asleep whispering that he hoped that Anna was safe…
Saoirse opened the front door to find his mother smiling at him. He thought oh no what now ?
Mother: “ Finally you are home Saoirse, I have organised a little family dinner ”
Saoirse: “ What’s that supposed to mean ?”
Mother: “ Well I told your father to come and bring Leif along ”
Saoirse: “ Seriously you invited that good for nothing and the brat he collected ? ”
Mother: “ Saoirse ! Don’t speak I’ll of your father please…and the boy has been through a lot you could really show some empathy…”
Saoirse pouting away, he kicked his shoes off. He looked over and saw his mother making a sad face.
Saoirse: “ Fine I’ll make an effort but you for you since you just came home ”
She smiled and hugged her boy promising that her sumptuous diner would make up for all of it.
After a long excruciating diner due to Saroise he finally went to bed. Anna still hadn’t written back to him since he told her to be careful and not go out alone.
Saoirse wrote again to Anna if she is doing ok and that he is really worried for her since that eye reappeared in the sky. He waited for a long time but till he fell asleep she didn’t reply…
Once Sarai made it back home she first hurried up stairs to get a long awaited shower and a change of cloth into something more comfortable. Then she immediately headed down to find her mother in her little home office.
Sarai : “ Evening Mam can I ask you something about an old case ? ”
Mother : “ Well hello when did you get in ? It’s very late you should be in bed by now young lady ”
Sarai : “ Yes yes I know Mam but I had a good reason we were working on our final in the Apocrypha archive all day long and Saoirse found this old case of Lisa Bennett who you examined ”
Mother : “ Fine but that’s an exception I dont like you home that late ”
Sarai : “ Yes yes I promise, can you tell me now ? ”
Mother : “ Lisa Bennett you said…uhm yes I remember but she had no physical wounds. She had lost her sister in the woods of I got that right…wait let me check the file it’s been so long ”
She turned around checking her computer for the file of Bennett and once she found it, she first read through it before she turned back to her daughter
Mother : “ What exactly do you want to know ? ”
Sarai : “ Everything you know, anything could help Mam ”
Mother : “ She was diagnosed with mental instability and anxiety due to losing her sister under strange circumstances. Sadly they never found her sister, and she got into trouble with the authority later for they didn’t believe her story and it made her angry. She told me that she saw a huge eye in the woods glowing red…it sure sounded all strange ”
Sarai : “ Thanks Mam, poor her it really reminds me of Hannah and Anna. Is there an address by chance ? Or something ”
Mother: “ This is related to that missing girl case ? Alright yes I got one but it’s been ten years she might have moved ”
Sarai wrote the address down, kissed her Mam goodnight and texted the news to her friends. Finally a new lead.

Now that we stopped walking, is a good moment to think again if we like the place our road is leading us.
Someones are still obligated to be out, putting themselves in risk. My best wishes for you guys. Especially for all those heroes that are working to prevent more spread and cure infected people.
Together, alone with the sky, when during the night, it shows up its real self. When the blinding blue mantle of the day shatters together with our comfort, to expose the enigmas we’ll never solve. Night’s friends love questions, rather than answers.
