People are going to stare no matter what. We instinctively think it’s because of our flaws. But did you ever stop and think it’s something special they see?
When I’m out and about, I’ve learned to just focus on myself and who I’m with. No one else’s opinion matters to me. My body is mine, no one else’s.
I’ve lost too many “fun” opportunities because of worrying about what others will think about me. Or the looks I will get. The human body is different for everyone, no one is the same or alike. Those people who claim to be flawless show their flaws when they judge other’s by how they look. Beautiful people don’t do that

What do you love about your looks? Too often we get stuck on what we hate, and that negativity can escalate when we commiserate to friends, in a kind of Mean Girls mirror scene-esq loop. When your friends complain about their looks or body do you add on what you hate about yourself, or do you shut that shit down ASAP and start a compliment choir? Instead of bemoaning what you hate, let’s praise what you love! Personally, I love my smile - it’s genuine, a little asymmetrical, and my entire face lights up when I do. Being obese is not a political statement.
There’s nothing anticapitalist about celebrating overconsumption.
Im trying to follow their logic. I could see there being something to criticize in that healthier food is more expensive so poverty and obesity are often correlated. So putting all the emphasis on individual responsibility while giving systems that allow for people to not be able to afford to eat reasonably a pass could be seen as akin to telling individual consumers that the climate is changing cos they didn’t recycle enough last week when corporations are blasting poison into the air.
But.. I dont see how being critical of a capitalist system that neglects people into obesity through poverty would lead to celebrating said obesity. You could be critical of peoples lack of access to healthy food, good healthcare, or education about nutrition, and understand that obese folks arent all just tumblr HAES warriors eating all the cake, but still recognize that obesity is not a good thing. You could be critical of the aspects of our society that make it more difficult for some people to be healthy, but wouldn’t your goal be “let’s fix that so everyone can be healthier” instead of “fuck it, it’s not all my fault so it’s not at all my fault”?
Isnt that like saying, “it’s harder to get a post secondary education if you dont have lots of money” and instead of working to make school more affordable or removing barriers that keep some people from going, just being like “fuck education anyway. The word education is just a capitalist ploy. There are things that make it harder for some people than others so the whole endeavour is trash”

The last few weeks have been a blow to my self esteem. It seems like I can’t do anything right anymore. These moments of insecurity and fear are just as valuable as those moments of confidence and success. This season has taught me that my voice matters. My needs matter. I Matter. I can’t keep playing small or settling. Sitting at tables that don’t serve me is not working. While I am not there now, I am working hard to move into a space where I am happy, with my life, my appearance, and with who I am as a woman. The journey to self appreciation is constant. I have learned so much about myself in this season.
My comfort comes from knowing that God loves and accepts me in all of my mess. He sees the best in me when I don’t. He honors my worthiness when I won’t. This season is just that, a season. Depression is not my forever. Failure is not my forever. I’m coming after everything that God has assigned my name. Joy, success, confidence, love, hope. It’s mine.
