I will not let worry control me…

Artist David Freedman created this beautiful, ghostly deer sculpture deep in a UK forest. He was asked by the UK Forestry Commission to make a piece for the Wyre Forest in Worcestershire, England as part of a sensory trail, which would make it accessible to people in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. Despite being easy to access, the sculpture is set back from the pathway so that it appears deep in the forest.

“I chose the fallow deer to represent the local wildlife and I designed it to be more of a shadow or ‘spirit of a deer’ than a lifelike representation,” he tells us. “I wanted to give viewers the sensation you get when you chance upon a secretive animal in the distance, silent and camouflaged. Hence he is not intended to be a solid object.

“The piece took about two months to construct, using hand forged wrought iron. It stands about 9 feet tall in total and it has been galvanised for long term protection. The galvanising process produces a bright shiny finish, so I dulled this with a mild acid to a more aged, tarnished finish.”

Happy 110th birthday to the Girl Scouts! Many decades after its founding in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia, the Girls Scouts is a vibrant national organization serving millions of girls around the country. In total, more than 50 million women in American were a part of the Girl Scouts during their childhoods, showing the tremendous impact the organization has had on empowering generations of girls.

Many of the Girl Scouts of the past and present have been inspired by the Girl Scouts Law to “make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.” The Girl Scouts pictured here were a part of an effort during World War I to collect peach pits and other fruit stones. The pits were burned to produce charcoal which was used in the gas mask filters of Allied troops; gas masks became essential for troops on the Western Front after the Germans began using poisonous gases against Allied soldiers. Peach pit drives became popular across the country with Girl Scout troop being among the largest collectors.

What we’ve gotta understand is that “the modern Internet is abolishing spaces for adults” and “the modern Internet is abolishing space for children” are compatible phenomena. Neither group is being favoured: the modern Internet is abolishing spaces for adults (i.e., because grown-up topics aren’t advertiser friendly) and the modern Internet is abolishing spaces for children (i.e., because online communities which consist principally of people who have no money are hard to sell things to). The Internet that contemporary corporate interests are trying to build isn’t a space for anyone – it’s the digital equivalent of an Ikea showroom.

Like, when I say that the greater part of contemporary social media is fundamentally hostile to human life, I’m not indulging in hyperbole or constructing an ironic metaphor. I mean that 100% literally.

Consider the House in House of Leaves: opposite of what a house should be, it is cold, random, infinite, impossible to fully comprehend or even moderately comprehend, not helpful, and ultimately harmful. It is stalked by an unseen force that shapes the pathways. It is all to easy to get lost in that dark place, and even if you think you’ve gotten out and back into a place of light and reality, it might still reach out and grab you unless you get far from it.

I see little difference in behavior between the Houseand most social media. You don’t know what’s hiding behind all the posts you see…

But it knows you.

While the AMD Candi is busy with All-Star Weekend, securing events four months down the line, finishing photoshoots and working on the post-production of music videos, CEO Annmarie Debrito has been fastidiously working for her next big venture: reality television. While AMD Candi remains a separate entity from the show, stay tuned to our social links for some major news to drop very soon.

No stranger to ambition, Debrito admits she may have let the cat out of the bag a bit too early. Typically, the reality show process from an idea written on a napkin to setting your DVR to record takes about a fewyears. But the good news is, the team is actively finalizing cast members and will soon start filming this in warmer temperatures this Summer. As a Rhode Island native, Debrito plans to showcase the beauty of the state including Newport, Providence, and Jamestown, the home of the stars, with much of New England to be shown as well.

I met with Annmarie to ask some user-generated questions to which she enthusiastically replied:

Have you gotten much or any support?

Annmarie Debrito: Absolutely, the networks have been great and given me the support I need. Business owners in RI, have also given me tons of support, along with those very close to me. Its not about the quantity, but more about the quality of supporters. This I have most definitely learned. But, most importantly I have GOD and that’s what matters to me.

Whysotight-lipped?

Annmarie Debrito: Obviously, with any concept and project you have to be tight-lipped because you sign a non-disclosure agreement and to create anticipation.

What CAN you tell us?

Annmarie Debrito: I am so excited and proud of this project. It will showcase a very high-spirited cast and director who will be sharing an amazing story. The show is going to be so fabulous and it will be shot in RHODE ISLAND, my home state. This is something so unlike anything ever done in Rhode Island and I can’t be more delighted.

Is the show local to Providence too?

Annmarie Debrito: Yes, the main shooting locations will be in Rhode Island, but I will also be shooting in Massachusetts and Connecticut. It will most definitely capture New England.

What show is it similar to?

Annmarie Debrito: With reality shows, they all share the same outcome which Is letting you into the actors personal lives and showing who they are. As far as the storyline there isn’t anything like that out there.

What’s new about your project?

Annmarie Debrito: We just signed the contract for the home that we will be shooting at in Jamestown, which is very exciting.

Why this network?

Annmarie Debrito: I went with this network, because I thought it was the best fit for the content of my show. It was between 2 networks and I went with the one I found most fit.

When are you filming?

Annmarie Debrito:  If casting, goes well and I find the right ladies then we will begin this summer. I am not in a rush. This has to be right. The cast has to be perfect. I’m not just looking to have 1 season. I want seasons after seasons.

When does it air?

Annmarie Debrito: That I do not control. Once filming is complete the network chooses what day, time slot, and season they air the show.

Can I be apart of it?

Annmarie Debrito: Absolutely, we will be announcing when we will need extras for different seasons. Just follow us on IG, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and stay connected through our newsletters.

How can we promote?

Annmarie Debrito: You can promote by word of mouth, and through your social sites. This is very exciting for the State of Rhode Island.

How should we stay tuned?

Annmarie Debrito: Follow us on IG, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and stay connected through our newsletters.
