wbqotd:

Describe a typical bed and bedding from your setting.

A nest-like structure composed of soft bedding and a sturdy framework. Usually cup-shaped with a slightly raised rim of padding. Many are often enclosed to create a sort of ‘cave’ with a curtain over the opening for maximum privacy, or just a safe place to retreat to after a long day.

wbqotd:

What are the major points of contention between the different religions or religious sects of your world?

Well not so much sects as moreso different interpretations of a common religious symbol that has shown up across various ashyran societies on Myra’Dwin.

A circle with curved lines spreading out from the central hub.

Some see it as a symbol of divergence, that all things emanate from a central core, perhaps symbolizing ashyrans spreading out into the the galaxy.

Others, however, see it as a sign of convergence, that all paths will inevitably reach the same point, a nexus. All lives end, all species invariably go extinct at some point.

The more pragmatic simply take it as a simplified drawing of a galaxy.

wbqotd:

Have there ever been any food crazes or fads in your setting?

Ahuurul (sorta a sheep-like animal) meat was once extremely popular for it’s texture and taste, even unseasoned it possessed great flavor. Flaky and slightly crisp when cooked juuuuuust right.

Unfortunately, being tasty isn’t a good survival strategy, and Ahuurul became one of the first livestock.

wbqotd:

Are hats and shoes typically worn indoors in your setting?

Hmm, I’ve never actually put much thought into Ashyran shoes. I’d imagine something like a sandle would be worn, since they have a large median claw used to help grip tree trunks. So perhaps open-toed shoes would make the most sense. They wouldn’t be needed indoors, but it’s not some kinda cultural thing, and would be up to the individual.

wbqotd:

How does your world’s religion(s) affect the plot and characters?

One short story is about an Ashyran neurobiologist as she studies the origin of sapience after her team manages to embue true sapience onto an animal. She basically has an existential crisis apon remembering an old ahyran creation myth. About how her species has once been no smarter than animals, until one day the god Chaluk Nara'an saw potential in her species and granted them sapience (they became the “Dawn Dreamers” in the mythos).

She wonders: if Ashyrans can grant sapience to another species, what does that say about them? Were they too, given sapience? She starts to wonder, could there be at least some grain of truth to the old myths…?

wbqotd:

Who is normally considered to be the ‘head’ of the family in your setting?

Oldest female. Ashyran families are matriarchal.

wbqotd:

Are most dwellings in your setting single or multi-story? If they’re multi-story, what rooms are typically located on which floor?

Single story. Or with underground catacombs. The exposed portions are low domes to shed off torrential rains. .

wbqotd:

How do people in your world generally feel about cohabitation and how common is it?

Ashyrans as a whole are an asocial species and do not relish the idea of having to live in close proximity to members of their own kind. The idea of living or even being in large groups is frankly alien to them at best and anxiety inducing at worst.

wbqotd:

How safe are your setting’s waterbodies for people swimming or taking part in other water-based activities?

Myra’Dwin’s water bodies are chock full of various dangerous species, it’s best you avoid dipping your toes in the water least you loose them.

Or your life.

Stage fright was the most important fear I’ve ever faced, and my greatest lifelong fear. As a child

Stage fright was the most important fear I’ve ever faced, and my greatest lifelong fear. As a child I was constantly pushed onto stages to perform at talent shows and other events despite the overwhelming anxiety I would experience, so when I gained autonomy as an adult I stayed as far away from stages as possible. I chose work like photography and being an interviewer that kept me behind the scenes and out of the spotlight. Standing in front of people to speak or perform was the last thing I desired for myself.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I probably would have stayed in that comfort zone my entire life if my love for this cause and humanity didn’t give me the drive I needed to use my voice. Ironically, I would now consider public speaking and performing to be what I do best! Overcoming this fear has unexpectedly opened up a whole new world for me, connecting me with gifts I didn’t know I had and sides of myself I never knew existed.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Tomorrow I will post a video of myself facing my stage fright. Is there a fear you faced that ended up being a catalyst for major growth and positive change in your life? Please share your answer in the comments.⁣⁣ #ReclaimYourVoice

The abuse you experienced is not your fault, and this question is not meant to imply that you would

The abuse you experienced is not your fault, and this question is not meant to imply that you would not have been abused if you had set boundaries. Rather, when it comes to your relationships with partners, friends, family members and even strangers, what are the lines you now know are important for you to draw?

Because abuse involves violations of our rights and because trauma is so often accompanied by feelings of shame, guilt and worthlessness, boundary setting plays an important role in our recovery. We are allowed to set boundaries and be clear about the type of behaviour that is or is not okay in our lives. We have the right to stand up for ourselves.

What type of behaviour are you no longer willing to put up with? Please share your answer below. #ReclaimYourVoice

Ok, so I’ve been lube shamed! I love AstroglideX, it’s silicone based & doesn’t get sticky plus it lasts! Some people think me having or using lube means I can’t get wet on my own, not true. Maybe I wanna fuck without foreplay. Maybe I wanna wake someone up by sliding onto their already lubed & ready to ride cock…hello morning wood! Surprise, I’m riding your dick ;) So, what are your thoughts on this?

Am I right or am I wrong for using lube? Yes, my pussy is tight so you can’t just toss something huge in there with no warning & girls ya can do that with may be a little on the looser side… (village bicycle)

Why is it that musicians with lots of female fans aren’t taken seriously?

Why is it, that musicians need to have lots of male fans in order to be considered “serious artists” who make “real music”? What does the audience’s gender have to do with the quality of music?

question of the day

Question of the Day: What is ricin?

On April 16, 2013, sources reported that an envelope laced with ricin had been intercepted before it could reach its intended recipient: Republican senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi. It was by far not the United States’ first encounter with ricin. On Feb. 29, 2008, a man lay in critical condition as the result of exposure to the biological weapon in his Las Vegas hotel room. The FBI says it is treating the situation as a criminal case and doesn’t believe the deadly toxin was part of a terrorist plan, though it has yet to identify why the substance was in the room. Three hotel employees, three police officers and a person who came to collect some items from the room were all taken to the hospital to be decontaminated.

So what exactly is ricin?

Ricin is a toxin that is fatal to humans in extremely small doses. Just 1 milligram is a deadly amount if inhaled or ingested, and only 500 micrograms of the substance would kill an adult if it were injected (CDC). Ricin comes from the castor bean plant (Ricinus communis) – it is present in the mash that is left over after grinding castor beans into oil. It can be delivered as a powder, a mist or a pill.

Ricin is a ribosome-inactivating protein – it irrevocably damages the ribosomes that carry out protein synthesis in cells. The ribosome-inactivating proteins found in the castor bean plant are extremely powerful, and ricin poisoning can do serious damage to major organs.
