Predators of the mighty Dragon Turtle the Dragon Eels are vicious killers of the deep, terrify your party with them.

The Heluo Zhi Yu or Heluo Yu live with in the rivers of China’s Tower River. These mythical beasts have one head with ten bodies or tails. They are commonly mistaken for squid or octopus. A prized catch, the Heluo Yu’s flesh can cure tumors and other bodily ailments. However it will not be easy, as these fish have the magical ability to gain flight and can transform into a bird.

Loki’s Brood
The union of the god Loki and Angrboða, the giantess of Jotunheim, yielded a monstrous and malevolent trio. “The Midgard Serpent” Jörmungandr was a sea monster who grew so massive its body encircled the entire world from head to tail. Hel was the ruler of the Norse Underworld, which was notably also called Hel. Fenrir was a gigantic canine terror pre-ordained to bring about the end times by killing Odin during the time of Ragnarok.

Leviathan
If Behemoth’s domain is the land, then Leviathan is the supreme monster of the sea from the Old Testament. In Jewish lore, both creatures will be slain by the might of God at the end of time and their bodies will be used to provide sustenance and shelter for the righteous.
“Who can open the doors of his face? His teeth are terrible round about.
His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. According to Aztec mythology, the earth was created from the enormous body of the Cipactli, a primordial sea monster with attributes of a caiman, a toad, and a fish. Its hunger was so insatiable that it had ravenous mouths on all of its joints. The deity Tezcatlipoca (”Smoking Mirror”) captured the hungry beast by sacrificing his foot as bait. With the help of Quetzalcoatl (“Feathered Serpent”), the Cipactli’s body was torn asunder and re-molded into the vast terrain of the world.

The Koakun-Klun is a lizard-like creature found in Cape Verde in Africa. The Koakun-Klun is described as a lizard-like creature that is said to resemble a mix between a crocodile and a monitor lizard and it is grey in color and is sometimes depicted with a tail that resembles a whale’s. The Koakun-Klun is said to do a death roll similar to that of a crocodile’s however it brings it prey deep underwater and then does the death roll to ensure that it’s prey doesn’t get away.

GUARDIAN OF THE DEEP
ohh look at that it’s monstermay AND mermay! so why not bring the two together? here is an oc i’ve had for a while, but haven’t gotten around to properly drawing until now.
risodonth is an ancient, dragon-like entity that lives in a vast, ruined city beneath the surface of the deep ocean. it is believed that he was once the ruler of the fabled city of atlantis, but that’s merely speculation among monster fanatics. nobody knows if he truly exists.. or at least that was so until an unfortunate deep water expedition team uncovered a strange temple, one still filled with air and riches.. and an unhappy elder beast.

Commission WIP

Since I haven’t posted in a few days I thought I’d give you guys a taste of the commission I’m working on, along with a bit of my process.
I always start with the first layer as a pose sketch, then the second layer is where I add placement of clothing and details. Then I use a third layer for a crisp line art where I usually still end up improvising a bit!
The line art has always been my favorite part of drawing… if I never had to color my art again it would be too soon lol.

Giant sturgeon fish in Canada.
I’ve literally been thinking about this all day, I feel more sympathetic to ancient cartographers who added sea monsters to their maps.
There’s a good chance that some alleged sea serpents are/were misidentified sturgeons, particularly the ones that describe a series of ridges or “humps” along the back of the creature.
I won’t say that describing sturgeons as sea / lake monsters is a mistake though. Because that is clearly a sea / lake monster. Just because we’ve assigned a scientific name to it doesn’t mean it’s not also an awe-inspiring aquatic beastie of mythical proportions.
Jesus fuck that’s a big fish. Makes me wonder how old that thing is to have gotten that large.
