#current wip
I knew this day would come, and honestly I’m glad I got a little over 2 months of posting in before I hit it.
As some of you know, I work full time plus some weird hours, so I don’t always have as much time to write as I’d like (plus writing is a major aspect of my job, so sometimes I come home too tired to words anymore).
I’ve been working on “Sawdust of Words” since about three weeks after Good Omens premiered (more like two days after it premiered cuz those first stories were just running around my head causing trouble), writing every opportunity I have. I’ve finally reached the point where I have NO completed stories ready to post.
What I do have are three completed first drafts and a couple of half-writtens, plus a whole scattering of ideas.
However, I simply do not have time to get anything finished and to my beta reader by Saturday. I have some commitments this week* so I probably won’t be able to get any work done until Saturday; and the next two weeks I have weekend commitments. Or is it three weeks? Yeah, it’s gonna be busy.
That does NOT mean I stop writing; more that I just don’t have any big blocks of time in which to edit, so I’ll be tossing things together wherever I can; this makes it hard to judge when I’ll be finished, so I can’t give any timeline for this at the moment. I’m going to do a little work tonight, and maybe I’ll somehow miraculously pull something together by Saturday. More likely, I’ll have at least one short story done by next week. BEST case scenario, I take two weeks and manage to get a lot to my beta, giving me enough material to last until Christmas. WORST case, idk, Thanksgiving???
I’m a little sad because I genuinely wanted to get something up this weekend for Asexual Awareness Week BUT I’m not going to trim my editing process and try to rush out a story. Particularly since the story in question was written while super sleep deprived and has some weird structural issues as a result.
Anyway, this got long and rambly, and I honestly don’t know how many of my hundred-and-something followers are here for Sawdust of Words updates, and how many just like it when I reblog metas with historical commentary. I will, however, continue to do the latter as much as I am able; also always feel free to message me or send me asks in an attempt to encourage me to keep working (I do like encouragement) or to ask questions about swords (I love swords).
I’ll post another update this weekend with my progress. Leave me a comment if you want me to @ you when I do.
*OK I’m playing a WWI soldier in a cool history graveyard tour and I haven’t learned my lines yet.

Langa WIP
A lil update on a portion my Dany piece, still so… so far from finished but we’re getting there, lads! I think posting my progress really keeps me motivated to finish my work, so expect a couple more dumb updates before the piece is finished :)

Commission WIP

Since I haven’t posted in a few days I thought I’d give you guys a taste of the commission I’m working on, along with a bit of my process.
I always start with the first layer as a pose sketch, then the second layer is where I add placement of clothing and details. Then I use a third layer for a crisp line art where I usually still end up improvising a bit!
The line art has always been my favorite part of drawing… if I never had to color my art again it would be too soon lol.

Spent my afternoon refining sketches and creating a sort of cheat sheet for colors. Last time I shut down my Macbook and closed Photoshop properly, all of my recent color swatches got deleted… first time that ever happened and I can’t get them back… And those swatches all happened to be for the Turtles, April and Casey.
Anyways… An art update!!! So excited to line, color and shade everything!
Also… am I the only one who kind of ships April and Cassandra?

A sketch of my TMNT OC Gwenivere ‘Gwen’ Bishop, a High School student from New York. She’s just a week away from her 18th birthday when she and her friends get dangerously entangled in Foot Clan activity during their subway spray paint adventures. And the Foot are none too happy to be intercepted by a group of rebellious teens.
Her first encounter with the Tartaruga Brothers happens some time after ‘Out of the Shadows’ when they work closely with the NYC Police but still live in secret of the public.
I have some ideas for her story that I’ll work on further, some of it will involve trauma induced declarative amnesia, her living with April and Casey for a while after being rescued because she has panic attacks around larger groups of people (a.k.a. police/hospitals) and her first interaction with the turtles involving her beating one of them in the face with a frying pan in self defence and utter fear (cause she’s still a target of the Foot Clan).

Completely redrew Mikey and April because I wasn’t too happy with their poses. They were the only ones who were folded in on themselves and not standing up like the others, and that kind of bugged me.
I also might still change the leg positioning of Raph, because I’m still not a 100% happy with it, but getting somewhere.

I’ve been indulging my SIMPle desires today and sketched my latest favourite youtuber - Corpse Husband. Discovered him through Jacksepticeye’s Among Us Streams late 2020 and been watching his horror narrations and his own streams the past few weeks.
He’s been such a joy to have playing in the background while drawing recently and I just felt like getting him to paper too.

Thanks so much for all your notifications on the previous post of these sketches. It really brightens my day, so thank you tons.
I had kind of a low energy day today, so instead of continuing the first artwork of the turtles brothers or starting to line these ones, I procrastinated and only managed to clean these up a bit in Photoshop and do some changes that were necessary to improve the overall look.

Lots of adjustments still required, but I’m so happy how each and every one of these sketches turned out!
I wanted to draw everyone’s finale looks, because I absolutely love the black/T!color combination. April and Casey joined the party because Leo’s pose was giving me such a headache I had to draw something else before getting back to him.
I’m especially happy with the latter four where I ran out of my sketch pencil and picked up coloured pencils instead to sketch. I wish I had done the same with Raph and Mikey from the beginning, but whatever.. not gonna redo something I’m happy with.
I will still finish the other artwork I’ve been sharing, but I gotta say, I like these ones a lot better already. Comes to show what a week of daily sketching can help improve.

This isn’t TMNT related, except for the similar art style because that just speaks to me so much.
But this is me Finja and my ‘twin’ brother Slade. He and I aren’t actually related, he’s Swede, I’m German and live in our respective countries, but I met him a day before our shared birthday in 2017 at a convention in Sweden and I just love this guy so damn much! We’re 2 hours 50 minutes apart, me being the older ‘twin’. He’s helped me a lot with my mental health and confidence in the last few months, always there to cheer me up or have an open ear, and I couldn’t ask for a better friend. He’s also the one who’s very gently encouraged and nudged me to try and draw again and I can’t thank him enough for having my back.
So, obviously the style was inspired by RotTMNT, specifically the Disaster Twins Leonardo and Donatello. Hope you’ll like it even though it’s not TMNT.
