Margot would say she belongs to herself. Kitty would say she belongs to no one. And I guess I would say I belong to my sisters and my dad, but that won’t always be true. To belong to someone—I didn’t know it, but now that I think about, it seems like that’s all I’ve ever wanted. To really be somebody’s, and to have them be mine. To all the boys I’ve loved before / Jenny Han ————————————————————————— I enjoyed reading this book, and it was next to impossible to put down! Yet, I don’t think it lived quite up to the hype in my opinion (I think I was expecting something big and dramatic). Nevertheless, I will definitely be reading the next books in the series. 4/5

About Love When I was five I asked my mother about love. She scooped me into her arms and spun me around, her laughter filling up the room. She said love was like a red, round balloon; there was a part of you that wanted to hold on to it, a part of you longed to see it soar into the big, open sky. (…)

Sea of Strangers / Lang Leav ———————————————

Which one do you prefer, the knitted background or the floral one?

———————————————

A beautifully written poetry and prose book, including my favourites: Keys to the Kingdom, About Love, and Revenge!

• I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting.

Crooked Kingdom / Leigh Bardugo

—————————————

This is the second and final books in the soc (six of crows) duology. The crew managed to break into the most secure prison (the Ice Kingdom). But now they’re having a bit of a rough patch trying to get out of their own city. As always, Kaz has the most flawless plans, Inej is the Wraith, Wylan has a useful knowledge for chemistry; Nina and Jesper have their powers, and Mathasis was a soldier. Yet the book will leave you in tears. No mourners, no funerals? 5/5

Were you disappointed?”

She takes a deep breath, looking down at her hands. “My heart was. My head wasn’t. Most days I’m at war with myself. My head wins, usually. And for that I’m glad.

The Sleeping Prince / Melinda Salisbury

———————————————————-

This book made me cry, be terrified, laugh: all because of its twists and secrets. It is the second in a the Sin Eaters Daughter series which is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The sleeping prince is a fairytale where Errin lives, she just never thought it could come true, even the bloodshed and horror. Errin’s brother left and her mother is too ill and dangerous- so she has to flee, alone. The only person she can turn to, fortunately, isn’t a stranger, although Errin has never seen his face. 5/5

Death’s got an Invisibility Cloak?“ Harry interrupted again.

"So he can sneak up on people,” said Ron. “Sometimes he gets bored of running at them, flapping his arms and shrieking…

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows / J.K. Rowling

—————————————————————

I have always enjoyed the Harry Potter series, but this book is definitely the saddest of them all, but also the most inspiring. Too many of the characters die, including my favourite- Fred Weasley! The film misses out quite a few parts but it also adds in bits that aren’t from the film. 5/5

He set us a task: to write a story creating our own urban myth. The lesson ended with the boys walking around the classroom like zombies and the girls arguing over which was worse, clowns verses Slenderman. I left the classroom alone and no one noticed.

Between the Lies / Cathy Macphail————————————
Jude is missing. When Abbie receives a text from her, everything changes. But the question is why is Jude missing? Does anyone know? Maybe Abbie, maybe Jude’s friends. No one is sure- a thrilling tale full of suspense and surprises! 4/5

It’s another note on blue-green construction paper and it starts with a post script. My fingers tremble as I read it.
P.S. I love the way you smile like you don’t realise you’re doing it. I love your perpetual bed head. I love they way you hold eye contact a moment longer than you needed to. And I love your moon-gray eyes. So if you think I’m not attracted to you, Simon, you’re crazy.

Simon vs The home sapiens agenda / Becky Albertalli
—————————————————
An adorable book about a boy called Simon who is gay but hasn’t told anyone- apart from Blue. An anonymous boy, also in the same position as him. They email constantly, only knowing they go to the same school, not each other’s identities. Amongst trying to work out who Blue is, Simon lives like a normal seventeen year old, with friends, clubs, going out for waffles and, of course, a crush. 5/5

You might not be a lion, Tess. That’s fine. Neither am I. But we’re still cats, aren’t we? Just because we don’t roar, doesn’t mean we have to be silent.

Silence is goldfish / Annabel Pitcher
—————————

Although this story has a slow start, as the story unravels it becomes more and more interesting. Tess is fifteen. And she finds out her dad isn’t her biological father. At first, she’s too shocked to speak. Yet, she becomes mute; but when she discovers secrets that have the potential to ruin multiple lives, how can she tell anyone when she has forgotten how to use her voice? 3/5

“I’m the murderer,” I shout back at him. “I am the executioner for treason. Of course I’m damned.”
“You’ve never killed anyone,” he says harshly. “It’s not real.”
“Your wrong.”
He makes a sound of pure frustration, slamming his hands against the wall by my head making me flinch. “What do I need to do to prove it to you?”
“You can’t prove it to me.”
“Yes, I can,” he says slowly. “Yes, I can.”
He leans forward, pressing his mouth to mine.

The Sin Eaters Daughter / Melinda Salisbury
————————————
This is a story about a girl named Twylla- also known as Dæmon in-bodied. Who has the ability to kill with a single touch. She lives in the Queens castle and has been told she is to marry her son. But she quickly falls for her guard- Leif- whom is also falling for Twylla. 5/5

Group murder. It’s an interesting theory. I guess I should be grateful the cops didn’t try to pin the whole thing on me. Ask the other three to nod and get out of jail free. I’m sure Cooper and the blond girl would’ve been more than happy to play along. Maybe Bronwyn wouldn’t, though.

5 completely different students all get detention for the same thing- having their phone in the science lab. There’s Bronwyn- the geek. Cooper- the jock. Nate- the criminal. And Addy- the Princess. Then Simon. The one who is murdered, killed, died of natural causes: who knows? 5/5

The first time I read Fangirl , I finished it in the evening, and then started it again the next morning because I couldn’t get over how much of an adorable book it was ! •

“You look so blindingly cute right now, I feel like I need to make a pinhole in a piece of paper just to look at you.”

Wings and a Child / E. Nesbit This is probably one of the oldest books I own- from 1913! It is about making magic cities like a child would, with blocks and random little toys. There are several pages with black and white photographs, which show the magic city being built, such as the one in the second photo is ‘The hall of Peal and Red’. And, like all old books, the smell!

I will quote one sentence from this text, namely, the one with which it ended. It was also the sentence which finally dissolved the writer’s block that had inhibited the author from starting work. I have since used it whenever I myself have been gripped by fear of the blank sheet in front of me. It is infallible, and its effect is always the same: the knot unravels and a stream of words gushes out on to the virgin paper. It acts like a magic spell and I sometimes fancy it really is one. But, even if it isn’t the work of a sorcerer, it is certainly the most brilliant sentence any writer has ever devised. It runs: ‘This is where my story begins. The City of Dreaming Books / Walter Moers —————————————————————— A book that was published originally in German, about Optimus Yarnspinner. A young writer, who inherits a unpublished short story by an unknown author. And because the manuscript is amazing, he can’t help but find out who wrote it. Even if it is a dangerous journey. Walter Moers has written a beautiful story which is a way of transportation to the city of dreaming books, to follow Optimus’ on his perilous adventure. 5/5

I’m tired of taking people’s sins on myself.

I’m tired of running away from everything.

I want to be like Errin. Like Nia. Like Sister Hope. I want to be the girl who fought a golem, the girl who slammed her hands on a table and told a room full of powerful women that I was going to fight, and to hell with them.

I survived the court of Lormere. I survived the journey to Scarron. I survived the Sleeping Prince’s raid on the Conclave. I am a survivor.

The Scarecrow Queen / Melinda Salisbury ———————————————

This is the final book in the sin eaters daughter series. Aurek will stop at nothing to keep the throne forever; in result rebels attempt to defeat him. And they too, will stop at nothing. But they’re all running out of time. All of them… This is the type of book that you want to finish to find out how it ends, but at the same time, you want the book to last forever. 5/5 (*Did make me cry!*)

You see I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad things that happened to me.

The Great Gatsby / F. Scott Fitzgerald

—————————————————-

This was a short story based in 1922, America. Jay Gatsby has a luxury house, throws extravagant parties; all for the attention of Daisy, who lives just across the water. Although I enjoyed the book, I found that some parts were hard to understand because of how it was written- but I think if I watch the film, I might understand the story better 3/5

Be yourself. If you’re difficult or weird or strange or funny, that’s OK. That’s you, Flora. The person you are now, with all your imperfections and all your difficulties- the person who can be a total pain in the arse, who causes her parents to tear her hair out, who wrote adorable wild emails, who fell in love with a boy on a Cornish beach and followed him to the end of the Earth- that’s you.

The one memory of Flora Banks / Emily Barr

—————————————————————————

Flora is seventeen, and has Anterograde Amnesia, which she gets when doctors removed a tumour from her brain at the age of ten. She lives with her parents in Cornwall, and although she doesn’t remember, life is OK. That’s until she kisses a boy called Drake at a party- and she REMEMBERS. Read this fascinating book and see through Flora’s eyes, and for that time you are her; you read her story again and again. Flora is a beautifully independent character. And she is brave. 5/5
