This is a statue of Aphrodite, and I love it in significant part because it shows her in motion rather than posing, and she looks just like an ordinary awkward human, albeit a very beautiful one. I like that she’s caught taking her shoe off.

Wrapped loosely in a himation; her upraised right hand lifts a corner of it which hangs down the back; on an integrally molded pedestal with a relief of a thiasos, with a satyr and flautist on the front.
With the resurgence of Percy Jackson, I’m thinking of making a uquiz about whichrealistic godly parent you’d get (meaning no option to be fathered by Zeus, Poseiden, or Hades, and an rare option to not be a demigod at all) because I think we all need that.

Also on a more positive note: have you seen the announcement of the new series from BBC ‘Troy’? I’m excited to watch it tonight! I’ll let you know what I think!
