The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office lists over 200 patents for lemon squeezers, the majority of which were registered between 1880 and 1910. The oldest of these patents was issued to Lewis S. Chichester on July 3, 1860 for a cast iron squeezer. The stated purpose of the invention was “to obtain a simple, economical and durable implement whereby lemons may be squeezed for domestic purposes with much less power and with far greater facility than by the ordinary squeezers in general use.” $
I’m in Bolivia at the moment, where they sell water geared specifically towards women - it’s not flavoured or altered in any way - just plain old water in a pink bottle!
A more colourful expression of the original flavour Kueh Lapis Legit(印尼千层蛋糕)shownhere. This thousand layer cake from Swee Heng 1989 Signature cost just S$1.50 for two pieces. But there is a caveat, the more expensive Kueh Lapis Legit contained more butter in their batter but this cheap version don’t. So it lacked the characteristic buttery fragrant from their more expensive competitors which is the signature of this type of cake. Paired it off with a cup of less sweet milk tea with a sachet of ginger powder added.
