I made this over twich this week for this month’s simple cg.

I think I’m gonna keep doing these “themes from a hat”.  For this month’s challenge, the words are  “Sci-fi, Caves, and animal crossing”. You can interpret that in any way you like. I combined the sci-fi and caves part into a fallout type universe and put it through the filter of animal crossing esthetic. The wrench is just a reference to another favorite game series. It’s been a while since I’ve put together a reel so I thought I would throw one together of all the personal work I’ve been up to. I’ll eventually get together a professional work reel but this came together so quickly I just wanted to share it as soon as it was done. Enjoy!

(Shameless self promotion moment) I put together a reel of a lot of my personal work I’ve been upto, and pretty much all of it was from working on this blog! Running this blog has been fantastic! It’s kept me busy and kept forcing me to make stuff on my own time outside of work! It was really cool putting this together because it was one of the first instances where I actually was taking notice of how much I’ve grow as an artist, and it largely is thanks to all of you! Thank you to everyone who follows this blog, to the people who participate and the people that share! You all are the future of animation! Keep pushing boundaries and keep it simple!

(Okay so that went more sentimental than I thought it was going to go haha)

The animation is about groups of people (hive mind) idolizing someone because of their persona and constantly giving them praise, even though they don’t know them personally.

I’ve been fighting through a cold the last couple of days (still, better than being ill at Christmas), and working in Clip Studio Paint.

This is my current wip. Solas from Dragon Age: Inquisition. I’m just in the process of tidying up the line work. Then I’ll move onto his ears and clothes.

I’m glad I got round to trying Clip Studio Paint. It has become my main art programme (overtaking Photoshop which I’ve been using for about 16 years).

I bought Clip Studio Paint last year and never got around to using it. Finally tried it a couple of nights ago, and I love it.

So I’ve spent the last couple of evenings practising eyes.

Ethan Redd talks low poly theory at GDC. It’s pretty great and he hits on many of the things I’ve been trying to showcase through simplecg.
