Holy shit I just came up with the best follow up headcannon on why Neil and Andrew don’t wear their wedding/promise rings on their fingers but instead hang it on necklaces/keychains:

Tilda always wore the promise ring the twins’ dad gave her, even if the promise was broken.

Mary and Nathan both wore rings, and rings hurt pretty fucking bad on skin.

Neil doesn’t want him and Andrew to end up like Mary and Nathan or Tilda, Andrew caught on these and agreed and thats why

Like don’t get me wrong there’s lots of great kids cartoons right now and recently, but Like genuinely what I need is just more cartoons aimed at adults that fit my vibes.

Like I’m not saying there are no cartoons for adults or even that they’re all bad, it’s just… How do I put this into words?

I want more adult cartoons that follow a journey and to be soft or beautiful or something like that. To be taken seriously, but mostly to be emotionally and mentally fulfilling.

And to be clear, I’m not saying there are none and I know that there are anime and such that scratch the itch.

It’s more that I feel like there’s room for so much more animation and I think we’re on the path for so many great experiences. Like I know the path is being laid, but at the same time I wish we were already there.

Right now I guess I fill that need mostly with web comics, but like without fail if a brilliant webtoon gets adapted into a show, it’s live action. And I guess it’s fine sometimes, but it’s so disappointing. Like some comics are so beautifully styled and I want to see it translated that way.

And I don’t know. I love cartoons. I just want to see them flourish, I guess.

okay i am perfectly willing to chalk this up to Just Fanfiction Logic but like. how the heck does the oh no i spilled coffee on you meet-cute even work?? like, unless the character is a total dumbass and doesn’t put a lid on their drink there would be minimum spillage at the max.

although this does give me an idea - imagine a character who’s such a hopeless romantic that they don’t ever put a lid on their drink. it gets them into troublesome situations sometimes - maybe they spill it on someone who they hope to be their One True Love but ends up being a total asshole, and then someone defends them and that’s who they end up with? idk, but now i’m thinking of other trope twists that could be done.

I will say there are absolutely a lot of valid critiques there, but I think there is also something to be said for the left hand of darkness as an exercise (particularly to the modern reader) in pronouns not matching gender in a tidy way & the idea that the innate self isn’t necessarily tied to presentation. it is interesting to me how many people I come across saying they were unable to read the gethenians as genderfluid purely because they used he/him pronouns, which I think sort of falls into the same sort of trap that the book is pushing back against, where you have to overcome your own assumptions about how behaviors and presentations are gendered in order to come to a true understanding of the person. which is not to say there aren’t very real reasons for discomfort (particularly with regards to the choice of he/him in the 60s), just that maybe some discomforts deserve to be examined, particularly if you as a reader can only believe or understand genderfluidity if it’s presented through a set of pronouns you find comfortable

So the Golden Guard as a concept/person has lived on through multiple years, decades, eras and what not right?

And who’s to say reincarnation isn’t a thing on the Boiling Isles, and if it is The Golden Guards would probaly meet the same persons reincarnation multiple times.

Now of course cus Belos starts from scratch each time they won’t be able to remember the past memories with that person’s previous lives, but what if over the centuries the same ‘core’ (Whatevers used as the Brain or Heart) is recycled each time and even after having a memory wipe the heart would still have a feeling towards a particular person due to having known them throughout all their previous lifes.
