President Joe Biden just signed “an executive order to supercharge our administration’s ambitious plan to confront the existential threat of climate change.”
He is pledging a million new jobs in the US automobile industry which will be generated by the federal government switching its entire fleet to electric vehicles.
This all is amazing but he then stated again that he will not ban fracking…
Switching to electric cars is great if your (or in this case the government’s) cars are old and need to be changed anyways. It’s also important that the energy they run on doesn’t come from non-renewable sources.
Is this move doing more harm than good by replacing functional vehicles with new electric cars? This executive order seems at best symbolic and at worst damaging.
It’s amazing that he tries to tackle climate change (unlike Trump who refused to acknowledge its existence), but if he truly wants to help he must do it in an effective way that goes beyond his public image.
According to his executive order, the only people from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen allowed into the United States at present are those with the following visas:
Diplomatic visas, North Atlantic Treaty Organization visas, C-2 visas (for foreign nationals traveling to the United Nations headquarters on official work), and G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4 visas (for official representatives from foreign governments and international organizations).
What this means is that many people from these countries with other non-diplomatic visas (travel, student, work) – who have legitimate reasons to be in the United States, to live, work, and travel – cannot enter the United States right now.
Friends, family members, students, business people – all of them blocked it seems.

Legal residents who have a green card and are currently in the United States should meet with a consular officer before leaving the country, a White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told reporters. Officials did not clarify the criteria that would qualify someone for a waiver from the president’s executive order, which says only that one can be granted when it is “in the national interest.”
UPDATE: It is still unclear at present what the text “the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security may, on a case-by-case basis, and when in the national interest, issue visas or other immigration benefits to nationals of countries for which visas and benefits are otherwise blocked” (in subsection g) means and how it applies/affects people trying to get back into the United States on alternative visas.
The federal court for the Eastern District of New York has issued an emergency stay halting President Trump’s executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.

Trump just signed an executive order calling for a reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule. This video is a simple breakdown of what the Global Gag Rule is and its implications.
It was not immediately clear when that day would occur. There was also no immediate detail on whether this would be a presidential proclamation or a call for a federal holiday.
How revolutionary! Groundbreaking! I never imagined we would have a special day that would celebrate our country and its accomplishments! The 4th of July is NOTHING compared to this new holiday!
