EreinionandErien were the twin children of Maedhros and Fingon, born in the last years of the Long Peace. They dearly loved their elder sister Amaurëa, though she did not know what to do with children at first, and were heartbroken when their parents sent them away to the Falas in the aftermath of the Dagor Bragollach. Though they resented their situation, ErienandGil-galad grew to love Falathrim culture and became close to their foster-father Círdan. As the First Age drew to its bloody close, EreinionandErien welcomed their siblings to the Havens of Sirion, meeting for the first time Finbór and Elwen, twins born after Fingon’s death. In the Second Age, Erien remained with Círdan and helped him build his new haven of Mithlond, from where she would sail her ship Elenairëout to sea, exploring and mapping the oceans. Ereinion Gil-galad became High King of the Noldor, following his fathers’ footsteps, and building a great legacy of his own. After his death in the War of the Last Alliance, Erien grew weary of Middle-earth, and bidding a tearful farewell to Círdan, she sailed West to Valinor, where in time her family would be made whole once more.

@aspecardaweek: QUEERPLATONIC ELROND & GIL-GALAD

“I remember well the splendour of their banners. It recalled to me the glory of the Elder Days and the hosts of Beleriand, so many great princes and captains were assembled. And yet not so many, nor so fair, as when Thangorodrim was broken, and the Elves deemed that evil was ended for ever, and it was not so.”

“I have seen three ages in the West of the world, and many defeats, and many fruitless victories. I was the herald of Gil-galad and marched with his host.”

This is effectively the first oath part II (or just “more TFO”), where I put extra scenes in this universe that aren’t extended or connected enough to be their own stories. Definitely read that first! ;)

Chapter 1: feeling a little unhinged

We begin with two delirious conversations about reality and transformations (and cats and opera); and how having family about is not always enough to keep oneself steady.

FA 6: Maglor & Maedhros
FA 559: Gil-Galad, Eönwë, Indis, Finarfin, Inglor (Ingwion)

Maedhros’ eyes were cracked open, the lamplight reflecting off them blearily, and he was staring straight at him.

It was real.

Maglor’s pulse suddenly sped up. and he sat forward. “I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “I’m sorry, I’m-“

“Was it you who betrayed me?” Maedhros interrupted, voice thick with rust.

“I-“ he gaped. “Yes, I-”

“Who are you?” Maedhros asked again, still oddly emotionless.

Maglor took a breath, unsure what was being asked of him. “Kanafinwë Macalaurë,” he tried, placing his hand over his heart. “Your younger sibling. Your- your heir.”

Maedhros said nothing.

technically Maedhros/Gil-Galad is also possible I guess.

Maedhros goes on a diplomatic visit to Gil-Galad when Sirion refuses to answer re: Silmaril, hoping the young king will help them convince Sirion to give up the silmaril without resorting to violence.

But what he did not expect was Gil-Galad, who looks exactly like–

ok perhaps that one on the Cursed Ship list as well then, unless he’s Orodreth’s. Or secretly Finduilas.

So maybe that is the most out there possible zero fic on AO3 pairing I have puzzled together yet; secretly Finduilas Gil-Galad/Maedhros.

There is crossdressing to escape stupid elvish patriarchy, there is simmering resentment about Finrod and Orodreth, there is diplomacy.

I don’t know I’m going back to sleep.

@feanorianweek Entry 5: Curufin (Celebrimbor)

Ereinion’s big brother is telling him a story to try and distract him from a lot of things. It works a little.

Six AUs in which Gil-galad was a grandson of Feanor and one where he wasn’t (now on Ao3).

Yesterday, I gave you peredhel angst. Today, Tiny, bby!Gil. Tomorrow? Who knows. In other new, I am addicted to writing Curufin interacting with small children.

Tucked under the covers with the lights dimmed, Ereinion giggled into Celebrimbor’s shirt while his older brother shushed him. It was far past his bedtime, Tyelpe was supposed to take him to his room hours ago. But here they laid, snuggled together, Celebrimbor making shadow puppets on the wall for Ereinion’s amusement.

It was very fun, and very worthwhile mischief, by Ereinon’s estimation, they just had to make sure Atya didn’t hear them.

Mentelossë and Glorfindel’s wedding

My first real artwork of 2022 and of course it’s my favorite elves in love

This was an answer to an “ask Mentelossë a question” thing I did on my Instagram. All the questions/answers +more explanations under the cut

When Glorfindel came back to middle earth and they finally got married they didn’t talk long before wanting to try for a child. They’re both good with children and love them. Mentelossë took care of little Earendil and then of Elrond and Elros but she really wanted a child of her own. Especially after Elros’ death, it devastated her. But even if both really really wanted a child it was not working. They tried everything they could, asked every healer, but nothing worked. They eventually came to the conclusion that one of them or both were infertile. In fact, it’s because of all the trauma Mentelossë went through, it hurted her fea deeply. So after a really long time of trying and the grief of a child they could never have they stopped really trying and finally came to terms with the fact that it will only be the two of them. It was hard for them to see Elrond and Celebrian’s children grow, but they helped to raise them and felt happy to be there for them. It’s only after they sailed to Valinor and that the magic land healed Mentelossë that they were eventually surprised by a pregnancy. I don’t often talk about Mentelossë’s relationship with motherhood, but I thought a lot about it.

Their mother actually died of sadness that her love would never be mutual and that she married him only because he needed an heir (of course Fingon also didn’t wanted this he loved Maedhros). She was never really close to her daughter because seeing Mentelossë reminded her of what her life was now. Although Fingon has always been very fond of his children and tried to spend as much time as possible with Mentelossë.

She lived in Gondolin because Fingon thought it would be safer. She spends a lot of time with Idril and they became very close. After the fall of Gondolin they helped each other during these hard times.

She wasn’t really kidnapped by M&M, she chose to go with the little twins (mostly because she didn’t have a lot of relatives left, at the time she only knew Gil Galad when he was a baby and Galadirel who she wasn’t fond of. Following Maedhros was probably the best option).

okay listen to me: Mentelossë, Celebrimbor and Celebrian together ? Worst calamities of the second age They’re this kind of friends who are really smart, but when they’re together they share one brain cell.

And Meril is my best friend’s OC ( @firesn0w ♥️) don’t be fooled by her cute face she’s a demon

And the last ask made me draw their wedding ! Thanks to anyone who took the time to read me rambling about my OC <3

@aspecardaweek DAY ONE: GIL-GALAD Upon the death of Turgon in in year 510 of the First Age, EREINION@aspecardaweek DAY ONE: GIL-GALAD Upon the death of Turgon in in year 510 of the First Age, EREINION

@aspecardaweek DAY ONE: GIL-GALAD

Upon the death of Turgon in in year 510 of the First Age, EREINION GIL-GALAD ascended to the throne of the Noldor. Strangely, accounts of the former High King’s parentage vary within the histories. By some records, he is said to have been the son of Fingon, and by others the son of Orodreth. Records agree, however, that Gil-galad was a scion of the House of Finwë who reigned throughout the entirety of the Second Age until his death in combat at the hands of Sauron in SA 3441.

Throughout this long reign, Gil-galad never wed. Several times this became a matter of political import, wherein councilors and advisors urged their lord to marry that he might produce an heir. The High King flatly refused them all. A king he could be for his people, he said, but the task of being a husband was beyond him.

kazaera:

Yes, yes, it’s Gil-galad parentage meta. But! With a different focus this time.

Namely: Círdan and the Havens.

I. Introduction

To make clear where my starting point for all this is: I subscribe to Gil-galad son of Orodreth, and in all honesty one of the reasons I do so is because I like the way it lets me avoid Gil-galad ending up on Balar for large portions of the First Age. I like the fact that I can give him a front-row seat to a lot of the major events of the First Age instead! So I’ve been puzzled by the amount of fic that has Gil-galad son of Orodreth being sent to the Havens, same as the Fingon version.

Now, if it were a matter of people really loving the idea of Gil-galad and Círdan’s relationship and wanting to keep it even with a different Gil-galad backstory, I completely understand that, knock yourselves out… but I am getting the impression that a lot of people view Gil-galad as being sent to the Havens and fostered by Círdan as the default, or think it’s somehow “canon” that they have to incorporate it no matter the parentage. And then they run into problems.

disorganisedautodidact:

So, there are many Gil-galad origin theories I find compelling, but here’s one reason I like him as a child of Maedhros and Fingon:

This makes Elrond his half-brother.*

Just. The dramatic irony of the longest-reigning High King of the Noldor in Middle Earth. Having. A younger half-brother. Who he’s apparently at least on pretty good terms with and quite possibly very close to.

This ties in wonderfully with other people’s headcanon that I’ve seen, that Gil-galad tried to push the crown onto Elrond because no-one really wanted to be king by the second age.

Consider the possibilities.

Gil-galad, at some point: Feanor was LUCKY; myhalf-brother is refusingto take the crown, it’s veryaggravating.

Gil-galad, meeting his ancestors in Mandos: *is asked about his successes* *annoyed voice* Well, you see, I fostered a good relationship with my younger half-brother *glares at one grandfather* and took other people with me to fight the evil ainu *glares at other grandfather*

*assuming that Elrond sees Maedhros as a father figure, which I do

Then, the investigation became a top secret meeting in a room full of broomsticks and cleaning tools. Erestor, Tindómiel, Thranduil and I were squeezed like thieves, discussing the matter. The secret council was stopped midway as a servant opened the door to fetch a bucket and brushes. Imagine being a staff member of the castle and find four important people sitting in undignified positions and whispering like criminals. Miel was sitting on my lap. It’s a good thing she’s my niece, the domestic won’t think too much of it. I can’t say the same for Erestor who was settled between Thranduil’s legs and was caressing his thighs because he could, with Thranduil poking his stomach (Erestor is ticklish. He kicked me because he was squirming too much).”

Dear You is updated!

“Then the Havens were laid in ruin, and the tower of Barad Nimras cast down; and the most part of Círdan’s people were slain or enslaved. But some went aboard ship and escaped by sea; and among them was Ereinion Gil-galad, the son of Fingon, whom his father had sent to the Havens after the Dagor Bragollach. This remnant sailed with Círdan south to the Isle of Balar, and they made a refuge for all that could come thither; for they kept a foothold also at the Mouths of Sirion, and there many light and swift ships lay hid in the creeks and waters where the reeds were dense as a forest.”

Ereinion (Birth Name): “Scion of the Kings”

Height: 6’2” - 6'4”

Weapons: Aiglos “Snow Point” - Spear

Personality: Being the High King of the Noldor, Gil Galad has an air of authority around him, and a commanding presence, but he never behaves in a way that would say that he’s better than anyone else. He knows how to have a good laugh and is fiercely loyal to his friends. He holds the highest authority among the Elves he rules and is respected by both the Noldor and the Sindar. He is valiant, powerful, skilled with a spear, a talented diplomat who makes allies with the men of Numenor, and wise enough to know that Annatar is not who he says he is.

Appearance: Tall, with shoulder length black hair, and piercing eyes.
