A new sketch featuring a scene from The Wicked King, behind the throne room, when Cardan is seeking Jude’s tutelage on how to seduce the enemy. This was voted on by my Patreons (submitted by Kimberly H.) for the October Sketch-a-Wish!
Here it is! Part 1 of a new parody series of illustrations themed as Jude in Wonderland! Ever since book 1 of The Folk of the Air, I had always loved the symbolism of Cardan considering Jude the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ of Elfhame.
I thought it would be fun to re-imagine these characters in the roles of the classic tale, but with a TFOTA twist. This first illustration has Alice!Jude meeting Cheshire!Cardan. And yes, Cardan has cat ears! I thought these two paired nicely with this iconic exchange:

I’ve mentioned before how I found Cardan so closely aligned with Cheshire - clever with his words, no alliances, disappears with a grin. This exchange just solidified it for me.
I went HAM on this environment here, which I normally don’t enjoy doing. But by combining it with some Gustav Klimt-inspired textures, I had a little bit more passion fueling my pursuit at creating a Wonderland / Elfhame landscape. I have two more of these illustration planned with this parody crossover; so stay tuned!

CEO AU,All Human TFOTA AU. Jude is Cardan’s personal assistant and she doesn’t mind getting a little more personal. An opportunity arises when a deal starts to go south :

Part 2: The morning after, something about a Big Deal getting invested.
Part 3: A meeting with Jude’s last 3 brain cells, something about getting spanked.
Part 4:Jude realizes how oblivious she’s been, something about Cardan being bossy.

Part 6: A past is revealed and a future is planned, something about sabotage.
Part 7: Anxiety runs deep, something about amateur night.
Dark AU, All Human TFOTA AU. You don’t name your livestock; they’re easier to kill that way. Cardan has a job, getting information out of young college student, Jude. I gasp. “But you can’t do that!”
He looks at me for a long moment, but his gaze is mild, as though he’s expecting me to be fine with exile. As though I am nothing at all. “Of course I can,” he replies.
“But I’m the Queen of Faerie,” I shout, and for a moment, there is silence.
Then everyone around me begins to laugh.
“Deny it then,” I yell. “Deny me!”
He cannot, of course, so he does not.

so no one talks about this scene where cardan DID KNOW that she was jude. he looked absorbed by his owns thoughts because he knew that locke hurted jude’s feelings, he knew that she actually loved locke too. AND IT BREAKS MY HEART.

okay i loved loved loved the folk of air series and seriously cannot fault much but did it leave anyone else just like… wanting a lot more?
that’s probs a sign of how good it was but like also… jurdan were so slow burn that we didn’t see much of them actually together; we didn’t get to see heather get back her memories and taryn was giving absolutely NOTHING as per usual.
i just need like a short novella seeing all my faves happy so i can rest easy
