Me to my beloved, dependable book/movie/series: I adore you. You’re the epitome of quality content and I don’t see myself ever moving on.

Me a few moments later: *discovers something new to obsess over*

Me to the initial book/movie/series I was captivated by:

Ok thanks, except I’m in the real world and I’m still getting traumatized and I don’t get to ride dragons here so ehhh maybe, I don’t know, just possibly.. I might be okay with just a tad bit of sword-themed-trauma.

The Heir

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The selection trilogy is one of my absolute favourite series. Its romantic scenes are beautifully written but the story also has exciting aspects of rebelling castes, family values, and what makes a good leader.

Because I loved the selection trilogy so much of course I wanted more but I was a little hesitant to read the next 2 books following America’s daughter. My first impression of Eadlyn was she was a bit of a Brat. However Cass developed her beautifully into an admirable and strong woman trying to make her own way in the world.

I absolutely fell in love with Eadlyn’s story just as much as I loved America’s, and I would highly recommend the whole series to anyone.

I can’t believe Sadie Sink will make me read The Selection.

The Selection by Kiera Cass

1/5 Stars

So I attempted to read Kiera Cass’s The Selection… that didn’t work out so well.  The concept seemed okay, even if it was pretty far fetched.  The gist is that in the future the monarchy uses it’s version of The Bachelor to determine the next royal princess.  Can I just say this is a horrible idea for a governmental structure?  Like why would you use a lottery to give someone power and sovereignty?  Doesn’t make sense to me at all.

However powering past the idiocy of this so called monarchy, there were other things that made me put the book down.  What really bothered me was the characters reason for entering the lottery.  The main character starts out dead set on not entering because she’s in love with someone else.  This is a perfectly acceptable reason to not want to compete, though it would’ve been nice had Cass gave her a little more reason beyond a boy.  That aside America (who names their main character America? Really?) decides to enter because her boyfriend, who supposedly loves her, emotionally manipulates her into entering.  “Oh, I would feel guilty if you didn’t enter."  I’m sorry but I would be pretty pissed if my boyfriend told me to enter a contest to marry another man.

For those reasons I stopped reading The Selection. Perhaps it got better as the book progressed, but I was too annoyed by the first 50 pages to even bother continuing.

Bracelets for all three of The Selection books by Kiera Cass!

The Selection - I chose the colours of her dress for this, and added white pearls to symbolise her innocence and naivety when it came to politics.

The Elite - I like the burnt orange look of this cover, so tried to find a good match. Instead of pearls I used the pinky-orange beads so that the orange would stand out more.

The One - I thought about this one the most. The rose is simple, it’s to match all those gorgeous roses on her dress. Then I wanted it to be mostly white, like the cover but because this is a much darker book, I added some smoky beads in too.

Hope you love them!
