Tourettic!Kaminari Denki x Tourettic!Reader (Platonic)

A/N: Kaminari having tourettes is my favourite mha headcanon so have some very self indulgent and much needed content

Warnings: Tics described, mentions of tic attacks, mild embarrassing situations

Pronouns: None

  • Kaminari has tourettes due to his quirk, the electricity causes him to tic
  • After he has tic attacks his brain ends up short circuited
  • When he’s short circuited he doesn’t really tic much because his brain is calm and his quirk doesn’t really work
  • I kinda want to say you both met at a tourettes camp but I don’t know what those are like so I can’t write it
  • In that case I’ll say you met at the entrance exam
  • You were both anxious, excited, nervous, just full of feeling and it made you tic more
  • You were in the same room for the written test and had to be separated since you kept ticcing at each other
  • He thought it was funny but it was pretty embarrassing for you
  • Iida yelled at you when he yelled at Midoriya because you had been making little vocal tics that were still loud enough to hear during Present Mic’s presentation
  • You ended up in Class A and we’re able to explain what had happened because Iida just thought you were being really rude
  • Iida was sooo embarrassed when you told him it was tourettes
  • You and Denki became friends almost immediately
  • Both of you being in the same class was kinda problematic since you would tic at each other constantly
  • At first only Aizawa knew y'all had tics so it was pretty awkward
  • Lots of stares and questions but I mean that tends to happen with tics
  • If you’re uncomfortable with all the questions (most of which are from Mina, Uraraka, Midoriya, and Kirishima), Kaminari will absolutely answer them for you
  • If either of you have a tic attack, you try to take care of each other but it’s hard to when you end up ticcing at the other
  • Denki always has fidgets with him
  • He has so many and he forgets them constantly so he ends up just bringing a few of them wherever he goes so just always has at least one
  • If you like some more than others he will make sure to have one on hand
  • You pick up a lot of tics from each other
  • Tic loops happen frequently
  • Denki has some bizarre, random tics
  • They include but are definitely not limited to:
  • Your frog hat sucks
  • Bing bong your opinion is wrong
  • *stomp stomp clap* We will rock you
  • *Beats on chest like Tarzan*
  • He gets palilalia (stuttering tic) somewhat frequently
  • He gets so frustrated with it
  • Especially with the way people act
  • If you give him a fidget or let him play with your hands it usually helps but even if it doesn’t he will love you forever
  • He appreciates you so much
  • Knowing that you get it in a way that no one he knows can
  • That you can do what’s appropriate for the situation, whether it’s laughing along or ignoring the tic
  • He thinks you’re the greatest friend ever
  • Bffs for life

Since I have both Tourette’s and autism, I decided to make this venn diagram to explain the differences and similarities between tics and stims. This is based on my experiences and my understanding of other people’s experiences. I may be wrong in some parts, but I’m pretty sure this general idea is correct. I find this much more helpful than the yawn/sneeze metaphor, personally.

autism-fucking-rocks:

I always underestimate my hyposensitivities. I can be faint from heat and still not feel hot. My tourettes can cause me to slap myself so hard my ears ring and I’ll hardly feel the pain. I cannot imagine how these things must feel to neurotypicals, nevermind for autistics who are HYPERSENSITIVE to those things. It’s just so crazy to me that I have such a different perception. To hypersensitive autistics, you have my respect.

Like, I can be hypersensitive to some things. For example, if something burns my tongue, I feel it for hours, or even until the next day. And being hyposensitive has its drawbacks. I cannot be trusted to manage my own body during the summer because I can’t tell when I’m hot or thirsty. But being hypersensitive to those things? In June? Respect.

Some people just don’t understand how validating a diagnosis can be. Like with my parents, they worried that getting a diagnosis would be “letting it define me,” and that “there’s no point in confirming what we already know.” But having a professional sit down and tell you you’re not faking or overreacting is so relieving. Of course, there are downsides and not everybody feels the need for one, but if someone wants a diagnosis, listen to them.

When I was in partial people kept telling me how brave I was. Telling me that I’m one of the bravest people that they’ve met. What they don’t understand is that I’m not brave at all. I just don’t care about anything anymore. When you don’t care then what would you have left to fear?

sending love and support to neurodivergent people of color right now… neurodivergent people aren’t just white, and though there’s a clear lack of representation, you’re valid and i respect you. i will always fight for your right to comfortably and proudly exist.

Shout out to neurodivergent people who took forever to report physical symptoms because they were too disconnected from their bodies to notice they were in pain until it started to interfere with daily functioning.

Habits, Tics, Stims, Compulsions, and Behaviors

You are tapping your foot. Someone asks you to stop. You do. You feel no ill effects aside from maybe disappointment at having to stop. You tap your foot often. This is a habit.

You are tapping your foot, whether you want to or not. Someone asks you to stop. You can’t. If you try to it feels like holding in a sneeze and the pressure builds up. It might come out in a different, even less controllable action. This is a tic.

You are tapping your foot. Someone asks you to stop. You do, but immediately feel worse physically or emotionally. It was a way for you to express yourself and how you feel. You may feel pressure. This is a stim.

You are tapping your foot. Someone asks you to stop. You can’t, because if you do something bad will happen, possibly some specific bad thing. You know it’s irrational, but not doing it gives you anxiety. This is a compulsion.

You are tapping your foot. Someone asks you to stop. You can’t, because if you do this specific bad thing will happen. It is not irrational to you, although it is to others. This is an erratic/disorganized behavior.
