i’m tired and angry and i just wanna give a special fuck you to every teacher who implied that using “complex” language meant you were cheating or sucking up, when in fact that’s just how a lot of neurodivergent/autistic kids (and adults) naturally sound

My thoughts indeed

This is so me. I used to use really complicated sentences and stuff, but did a lot mistakes bc i was dyslexic - which of course nobody told me. So the complexity of what I was saying resulted in even more mistakes. Since our school system only counts mistakes… Well… I was a bad student. Of course. Because how else would it be?

sending love and support to neurodivergent people of color right now… neurodivergent people aren’t just white, and though there’s a clear lack of representation, you’re valid and i respect you. i will always fight for your right to comfortably and proudly exist.

for the record I’m still not over the fact that my dyslexia made me read “"Karrde” aka “card” but with two Rs and an E as “Karrade” like “kuh-raid” so for literal fucking years I did not catch the fact that this fucker named his ship the “Wild Card” because I thought it said “Wild Karrade” and I was like okay that’s a weird name for a ship, but whatever.

They used it as a way to add spam, memes, & other things no one said in the video.

Because of these people YouTube has decided to remove the option all together.

Over 130 fans of ‘Spring Awakening’ worked together using Community Captions to caption over 400 Deaf West’s Spring Awakening videos.

List of captioned DWSA videos: [X]

People all around the world worked together to make the videos accessible for EVERYONE. Not just for Deaf & Hard of Hearing people, but also people with sensory processing disorders, and people who’s language is not the same as the video.

Hey guys, so I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while now. For those of you who struggle with dyslexia or know someone who does, this masterpost is for you!

▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸  How to make your laptop read text to you (mac)   ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸ ▸

▹ Go to system preferences

image

▹ Go to Dictation & Speech

image

▹ Next set up the speed at which the voice will speak

image

▹ You can change who speaks, as well as the language they will speak in. (mostly concerning pronunciation and accents of the voice, naturally if you have it set on english and make it speak a german text, it will just be a german sounding voice speaking english and it won’t make much sense)

image

▹ The final step is to decide what key combination you want to use.

image

All you need to do now is select text, press your chosen key combination and turn up the volume :)

speaking of aphasia, my dad—like most of my friends and loved ones (and a startling percentage of acquaintances)—has dyslexia, and every time we have a serious conversation about transgender issues, he forgets the word “dysphoria” and instead ends up saying “gender dystopia.” which frankly is a much cooler term

If you are dyslexic or who have friends and family who are, watch this talk by Liz Miele about her dyslexia and comedy. It is funny, heartwarming and honest!

i’ve stopped trash talking comic sans after learning the font is actually one of the only dyslexia-friendly fonts that come standard with most computers and i advocate for others doing the same

In the event that you would like to continue hating Comic Sans, other dyslexia-friendly alternatives include Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, Century Gothic and Trebuchet.

thank

Random fact: Verdana is one of the few fonts which was specifically designed to be as easy to read as possible, even at smaller type sizes. It was designed this way for use on screen, but the same principles apply in print too. This is part of why some Universities use Verdana as their default font for documents.

“In the event that you would like to continue hating Comic Sans” is one of the best things I’ve ever read on this website

@pedeka@lunariagold@darklittlestories

I’ll take Comic Sans over Arial any day.

Century Gothic and Trebuchet are both quite handsome typefaces.

I’m partial to Century Gothic as well. It’s serif, but not boring.

There’s also a dyslexic font designed especially for dyslexic people to read.

You can install on your tablets, laptops and browers etc, so not only can you change things like documents into it, you can change websites into that font as well!

I’m sure you’re bright enough to do a google search, but since I’m dumb enough to forget to post a link, here it is. Better late than never

https://www.dyslexiefont.com/en/dyslexie-font/

I default to arial for this reason, but I will now be defaulting to verdana or dyslexie. nice.

I don’t think I have dyslexia but that dyslexie font was the easiest fucking thing to read ever. Books should be written in that shit.

ALSO!!!

For computer reading, when you mix up lines of text, there’s a web browser app called Beeline Reader. It looks like this

The colors are also customizable, to an extent and while I don’t have dyslexia, I have adhd which makes reading large amounts of text harder and this helps A LOT.

This is dope. I freaking love how much more accessible this information is nowadays.

for our dyslexic ravens.

Anyone have any idea how to change the font on the tumblr app to dyslexia friendly font? Or if it’s even possible?

I’m struggling to read this font for some reason.

What is Dyslexia? An infographic

This is what dyslexia is like for me too, and I agree most simulations really don’t get it.

Plus letters like d & b will interchange- like I’ll read a word like ‘dad’ and think, “that doesn’t fit the context” and check and it’s actually 'bad’. Sometimes I still have trouble reading digital clocks because in that font 2 & 5 often look the same to me. I’ll also sometimes read text on glass from the 'wrong’ side and not even realize it at first. Sometimes I forget which way s is supposed to face, but usually only when I’m very stressed or tired.

On the plus side I can write mirrored text, so that’s cool and almost utterly useless

soyybeanboy:

Hey, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but like… it’s okay to be neurodivergent. It’s okay to be autistic, or adhd, or dyslexic or dyscalculic or have down’s syndrome or ANYTHING. It’s okay if you feel like you can’t give everything 100% all the time. It’s okay if you feel tired even when you don’t think it’s justified. It’s okay to stop working and do something you like for a while, it’s okay to step away when you get overwhelmed, it’s okay to ask for help, even if you think it’s something that other people wouldn’t need.

It’s okay to be frustrated, but it’s also okay to be happy and love yourself. It’s okay to be unhappy with your struggles but it’s also okay to enjoy your gifts, your special interests, your hyperfixations, your talents, your stims, all of it. You’re awesome. Don’t let anyone tell you different.

Having dyslexia means playing impromptu games of “kitchen light or garbage disposal” and that’s a level of excitement I wish I didn’t have in my life.

Never underestimate the sheer hell fuckery it is to build a character in Dungeons and Dragons when you’ve got dyslexia and ADHD.

This is the worst and this game is so inaccessible for people like me.

Hello, I made a thing! This is a resource pack that changes all fonts in Minecraft to Open Dyslexic! I’m not dyslexic myself, but I am good at making resource packs, so I thought this could help some people out! (And if you are dyslexic, please give me feedback!)

According to my brief research, this font is the one dyslexic people generally seemed to prefer. Here are some screenshots of what it looks like!

[ID: Five Minecraft screenshots. They are the title screen, debug screen, an open book saying “Words! And other words! Punctuation!?!?! This is a font with lots of letters and I am definitely not making this up as I go. Look there are more characters in the english alphabet!”, a sign that says “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog”, and the pause menu. end ID.]

Download the pack here if you want, and if you find it helpful, please reblog and share!

Hey everybody
