¿Cómo se debe leer un libro?, según Virginia Woolf
La escritora británica también fue una buena ensayista. Prueba de ello es su libro ¿Cómo se debe leer un libro? “El único consejo, de hecho, que una persona puede dar a otra sobre la lectura es no seguir consejos, seguir sus propios instintos, usar su propia razón, llegar a sus propias conclusiones”, escribe la autora de La señora Dalloway, a quien recordamos a los 139 años de su nacimiento.
Woolf también sugiera no hacernos una idea predeterminada del libro que vamos a leer, tampoco crearnos expectativas. Uno debe “intentar convertirse” en el autor. “Si te quedas atrás, y te reservas y criticas al principio, te estás impidiendo obtener el máximo valor posible de lo que lees”.
Virginia Woolf’s 4th novel, Mrs. Dalloway, was published by Hogarth Press (run by herself and husband Leonard) on 14 May 1925.
The novel, published just one month after The Common Reader (a collection of Woolf’s essays), received positive reviews and was the most commercially successful of any of her previous writing.
When Emily Dickinson said “How dreary to be somebody”, and Daffodils said “It’s been raining inside my head again”, and Oscar Wilde said “Behind sorrow there is always sorrow”.
