In the first week of April the weather turned suddenly unseasonably, insistently lovely. The sky was blue, the air warm and windless, and the sun beamed on the muddy ground with all the sweet impatience of June.

Donna Tartt, The Secret History(1992).

In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.

Madeline Miller, The Song Of Achilles

Fifth chapter out now on Wattpad.

“We angels do not need to sleep, much less to eat or drink, but sometimes we do it anyway for pure pleasure. The nights, therefore, for the guardians who watch over their protégés, when the latter are at home to sleep, represent the foundation of hours of reflection, reading, writing and intellectual growth.”

(Chapter V)

Self-Portraits from 2020

I sure did look different in these photos with my short hair. I’d love to recreate these since I have longer hair after many years. Not the best photos but still living in my “grainy photo” era. I was inspired by Victorian literature again. Probably leaning into being a ghost in an abandoned manor.

Here’s a recently decorated study corner. I’ve been feeling a bit autumnal again, even though it’s the hottest week ever. I’ve started watching Mary Shelley last week which reminded me of how much I loved my old minimally chaotic study setups.

I’m still reading Piranesi and There’s No Such Thing as an Easy Job because I’ve been in a slow reading mood. Although they’ve got completely opposite themes, the study of a person is the main connection between two reads. Both main characters deliberate over the approaching dangers.

Enjoy your Mondays!

Some thoughts on Piranesi Ch. 1

If I leave, then the House will have no Inhabitant and how will I bear the thought of it Empty?”
― Susanna Clarke, Piranesi

To my surprise, the book is completely different from what I thought it was going to be. I think all the posts I’ve seen never mentioned what it was about. Strange enough, I do love the narrator’s odd behaviours and obsession with over-collecting data in the place he inhabits. Like everyone else, I found the first few pages confusing but then got the hang of what was happening by the end of it. I’ve read a few reviews of my friends just to see their thoughts. I’ll start reading the second chapter tonight after I finish everything for today!

Oh and I’ve been watching the film Mary Shelley but I haven’t finished it, so that’s also on my to-do list. It, somehow, fits perfectly with this book.

This day when I went to a museum with my family allowed me to live my Dark Academia Dream in this lavish mansion embellished with pre-19th century art, furniture and ornaments. Could have been easily a The Secret History in Istanbul setup.
