There’s a certain mindset that is starting to become very commonplace in the community, the mindset that every spirit wants to be a companion. Obviously that’s not realistic and yet, it’s something that I’ve observed a lot. People claiming a spirit they met yesterday as their companion, people shoving every spirit that they come across into a shop, etc. It’s as if a spirit being nice to someone means that they want an eternal friendship with them and not that they’re just being friendly. You wouldn’t consider every human who has been kind to you your friend, but suddenly every spirit that talks to you is your new companion.

One thing that was particularly troubling was when I was on my old blog and people would come to me asking if they could “have” the spirits that I talked about even though nothing I shared about them would have indicated that they’re interested in companionship. In fact, it was usually the opposite, that they don’t like humans. Even mythology dictates that the majority of spirits aren’t interested in genuine friendships with humans if you don’t want to look at the experiences of many spirit workers, on an off tumblr, that corroborate the same information. Like I told my friends, if I gave away every single spirit that I met to be a companion like how many shops are doing, half of the community would either be dead or in some deep shit. Of course that’s where vetting would come in but I could write a whole other post on how absolutely abysmal many shops’ vetting processes are (rarely lasting more than three weeks, not being able to read energy in-depth, etc. ETC.). Once you throw in the fact that they’ll take in literally any spirit that they meet you get a #mess.

While it’s great that there are many spirits who want companionship with humans, you need to recognize that you’re not the most important person in the universe. You ain’t so great that every spirit wants to be friends with you or hop into your shop so you can feel good about yourself when you match them. This is where discernment comes in. Sometimes we can get so caught up in what we want the spirit to say that we project our wants on to the spirit during communication causing our fantasy to seem like “reality”. People with faulty discernment can continue down this path thinking that they’re set up with a new companion when the spirit is long gone.

We must also consider the hero-complex, that is people constantly “saving” many spirits that are eager to become companions despite just being rescued from serious abuse and torture, according to the rescuers. It’s hard to believe that there’s so many spirits out there that want to become companions after being abused. They say that they rehabilitate the spirits but unless they are certified therapists or psychologists, any “rehabilitation” that they do is dubious and untrustworthy. And yet, there’s so many rescued spirits in shops, okay with being taken care of by unqualified people and being given to other people with little screening (no, having a lot of spirit work experience doesn’t mean that someone is qualified for taking care of an abuse victim). The hero-complex clouds a person’s vision, they want to rescue spirits and be the savior and so, like the person who projects their wants of getting a new companion on a spirit, the “hero” projects their wants of being a savior onto spirits and likewise exhibits faulty discernment.

This all leads to thoughtforms.

“This spirit just showed up randomly one day wanting to be my companion!” Hmmm. Not saying that situation never happens because it definitely does, but people need to be critical about it. I mean people aren’t even questioning whether or not the spirit is malignant much less the possibility that it was a thoughtform created from their desire for a new companion. It’s not even that hard for someone to create a thoughtform like that, the feeling of lust is very powerful after all. Or when people interact with spirits with the intention of collecting a new companion. You’ll meet someone eventually but whether it’s an actual spirit or just a thoughtform made from your desire, you’ll have to be careful to determine that. Same goes for those that are constantly searching for spirits to rescue. They want to save all of these spirits so they constantly go into the astral and find all of the poor, abused spirits so they can rehabilitate them even though they don’t know how to properly do that and help them live new lives as companions uwu. It’d be a touching story if it wasn’t just thoughtforms created by the delusional fantasy that is the hero-complex.

Furthermore, the mindset that every spirit wants to be your companion opens yourself up to danger. You shouldn’t even be inviting random spirits into your wards and safe zones within hours, days, or even weeks of just meeting them, not matter how much they “want to be your companion”. If any spirit truly experienced “friendship at first sight” with you, they should be content with you waiting to build trust with them before bringing them in. Any spirit that wants access to your home under the guise of companionship shortly after you met them should be met with caution. Spirits aren’t fools. They know how gullible and trusting people can be and will take advantage of that. It’s not like pretending to be a very eager companion is hard.

Tl;dr: dont assume that every spirit who talks to you wants to be your BFF or wants to join ur shop, practice good discernment, be critical of not just the spirit but also yourself.

Budget/Recycling witch tip:

Reuse those tins your tea candles are in!
Use as an offering dish for your spirits/guardians/fae/deities. Fill them with fresh water, wine, scented oils, herbs, candy, etc.
Put a layer of salt in one to keep your space clear between cleansings. Put a crystal or jewelry onto the salt to cleanse them.
Put a few herbs in the tin and then fold the edges down to make a closed container. (please don’t bury this or throw it in any rivers or whatever. you probably know the drill by now.)
Use a knife (carefully!!!) to cut up the tin into little sharp pieces. If you want, you can then fold them up so they form little spikes (again, carefully! use pliers, not your fingers). Use the sharp pieces or spikes for protection or cursing bottles and jars, like you would use nails or pins.

I personally also use them as disposable dishes for burning small stuff in, such as sigils. Great ideas!

How to make a Scrying “crystal ball”

What you will need:

  • A small fish bowl type glass bowl. As round as you can find

Example :

image

  • Black paint (may need to use glass paint)
  • Paint brush
  • A base (optional)

With your black paint. Paint the inside of your glass until you can no longer see through it. It may take a few coats. Let fully dry.

Once dry flip over so that the opening is on the bottom. You can then attach it to a wooden or stone base with glue or just leave it.

Use the dark reflective surface to scry. Don’t know how? This video may be helpful

If you try this let me know how it works out!

They have bowls like this at the Dollar Tree

This is a great idea!

And when you seal it to whatever you want to use, you can place crystals in it! :D Crystal balls are expensive, but a couple divination crystals about the size of your thumb could go in there for an added boost! ^_^

just-a-little-witchy:

Want to get rid of acne? After washing your face with a gentle soap and water, rub a small amount of tea tree oil over the area in a counter-clockwise motion. Tea tree oil is a cleansing oil(both physically and metaphysically), and also has witchy correspondences with purification. As well, counter-clockwise movements correspond with(among other things) decreasing(in this case, decreasing acne). Also if you tend to have dry skin, make sure to put a bit of moisturizer on afterwards as well!

((Fun fact: Tea tree oil also has correspondences with strength and harmony))

Be careful if your tea tree oil is a pure essential oil, especially if you have sensitive skin, as essential oils can irritate. You may wish to dilute it in coconut oil (super duper good for your skin and also has magical correspondences of purification) first in order to avoid potentially irritating your skin.

Also, to make it more effective, charge your oil with healing energy or say a spell while you are applying it to your face.

Draw good health sigils on your medication bottles and/or pill dividers. Just be careful not to draw over important medical information. As always, keep your intent focused on a good outcome resulting from taking those medications while drawing the sigils.

If your craft involves casting a circle, use a circular rug to mark the boundaries of your sacred space. The rug is ideal for quick setup, quick cleanup, and discreet practice. Save time fiddling with boundary measurements and making marks on the floor.

For discreet witches, the rug is becomes an every day decorative aesthetic.

Crafty witches can crochet a circular rug, maybe incorporate some knot magic to the project.

If a buying new rug is out of your budget, acquire a large piece of fabric and draw a circle on it.

Or you could use a large hula-hoop or some similar toy and just paint/decorate it to your heart’s desire.

After so many of you enjoyed the post about low-energy ways to celebrate Samhain, it is time to share some ideas on how to celebrate Yule without too big of an effort.
2020 was a hard year and everyone deals differently with handling the crazy stuff this year threw at us. You are valid and your faith isn’t less important or less worthy because you can not spend the energy you might want to on the celebration of the solstice. A blessed Yule to all of you!

-As an easy charm for good luck: Tie some tiny bells to a ribbon and wind it around the handle of your door. Who ever enters will be cleansed of their negative energies and the sound of bells will invite prosperity and luck inside your home.

-Treat yourself to some sweets. Doesn’t matter if self-baked or store-bought, we’re talking of all the delicious treats of the season full ofcinnamon (protection, luck), vanilla (friendship, passion), cloves (beauty, love) and ginger (energy, success). Yes, please!

- Give thanks and give back. You don’t need to volunteer for days to show your gratitude. Feed some birds, donate a bit to your local shelter if you have the money, small gestures matter!

- Who needs a big Yule tree? Get yourself some twigs (please don’t just break them off) from anevergreen and place them on your windowsill or inside a pretty vase.

- Solstices are turning points, times of change. Make a list (written or mental) and remember all the things you are grateful for that happened this year. Also note things that you want the new cycle to bring to your life. Keep the list close
during the time of the solstice and burn/bury them at the end of The Twelve Nights.

- No energy to decorate your altar? Decorate yourself. Wear green, red, gold or silver colors and jewelry with rubies, garnet, jade, agate or rose quartz.

Have a blessed Yule and feel free to reblog and add to the list!

Its beneficial to drink earl grey tea while studying because it contains bergamot, which is well known for its magical assistance in memory and success

To charge and activate sigils trace them with a crystal point. You can use clear quartz for anything but if you want to get specific you can use Tigers Eye to activate and charge a protection sigil or use your own correspondences.

Friendly reminder, especially for this time of year:

Don’t forget to protect yourself during your spirit workings, but also don’t let the fear of messing up stop you from getting your hands dirty.

Indefinitely unrelated news: on a recent trip I was doing some spirit work without all my usual set up and protection since I wasn’t at home. Some unexpected visitors slipped through and messed with the reading but it was nothing serious and a thorough cleaning staightened things out. In the end: no harm no foul. And maybe next time I’ll remember that I have to take more time with set up when doing necromancy so far away from home…

Witch Tip

Want to keep folks from tracking in any negative spirits or energy? Put rugs at the entrance/exits of your area and hide sigils on the underside of them! Have them soak up negativity like they catch dirt and beat ‘em outside to clean and cleanse them at the same time!

profoundly-bluesoul:

Witch tip for sleep!

If you have trouble sleeping, place a glass of water next to your bed. Enchant it with the phrase “shall I be restless or anxious, the water shall absorb such energy”. Don’t drink the water and in the morning dump the water down the drain saying “restlessness, I bid you farewell, tonight I shall sleep well”. Repeat as necessary. Hope this helps.

Side note: If you have curses on the agenda, alternately the negatively charged water can be used in curses, as it contains not only negativity, but your energy from being next to you at night.

it probably goes without saying but I’m a dumbass and have suffered the consequences before so.. friendly reminder to clean up/cleanse any spell setups once they are finished! Even if your intent is “complete”, tools and ingredients can remain active, overcharge your work, and force undesired results !

spiral-path:

Throughout history and our legends, Witches and Wizards were the crazy men and women that lived on the outskirts of the village. Their craft was wild and strange to those that lived in the village, but, nonetheless, people would seek after their wisdom of the land, the plants, the local spirits, and for wisdom or guidance in their path. These men and women, often bachelors, would know the ins and outs of the region and often went walking alone.

Today, our villages are less rustic and more like local towns, and suburbs. But one can still be a Local Witch, and develop special connections with the land you call home.

Become a Local Witch:

  1. Learn Local Lore
Folktales, legends, and even tall tales develop the culture of a town or area. Learn these. Retell them over summer campfires, and over drinks with friends. People will start to LOVE your stories.
  2. Start Frequenting locally owned shops and stores
Develop connections and relationships with the owners and those that work there every day. Learn their names, and introduce yourself after visiting more often. Supporting locally owned shops helps small business owners and provides nourishment to your community. This is putting down roots, and develops your connection with the people that shape your town.
  3. Find a Local Bookstore
This is an extension of 1 and 2. Locally owned bookstores always have a Local Writers, Local Plants, and Local History sections. Ask inside where these sections are, and start devouring these books. Not only will you be supporting a local shop, but you have a direct source of helpful information. Oftentimes, employees and owners also know a lot of Lore. Talk to them about what you’re interested in learning. They probably have some hidden gems of information.
  4. Learn about your Indigenous Plants
Start researching and learning about the flora that grows locally, learn their lore, their uses, and magical or folklore associations. If Natives from your area used these plants, find out how. Learn where these plants grow and research local foraging. If you’ve never foraged, see if you can find a local group that can serve as helpful guides to stay safe. Never ingest anything unless you are SURE.
  5. Start a local Plant Grimoire
Keep dried presses of flowers and plants in it, draw and diagram to help you remember what they look like.
  6. Learn about the indigenous animals
Research their folklore and mythology. Start finding out what they eat, and what their habitats are. (Safely) Do your part to help foster their growth and health. This could be making insect houses to help local endangered pollinators, or leaving out special birdseed for endangered bird species in the area. (Safely) Start interacting with the non-aggressive species and leave them treats. This is great for birds, deer, rabbits, moles, chipmunks, hedgehogs, etc
  7. Join local Conservation Projects
Getting directly involved in wildlife conservation strengthens our spiritual and natural ties to the land we call our home. Taking personal responsibility and interest in it’s stewardship is honoring the spirits of the land, and the Gods.
  8. Use Google Maps while exploring parks, or protected open spaces to drop pins and places where you find animal habitats or useful plants for foraging.

That’s all for now. More will come later I’m sure. Now go be the best local Witch or Druid you can be!

positivevibe-witch:

Hey all!

Playing an instrument and making music is already so magical. You have the ability to create something from nothing and change your emotional state and of others. Not to mention when you play in a group and everyone’s in tune and you just lose yourself in the music. I can go on and on, but here are some ideas I came up with to add some dank witchcraft:

- charm your instrument for various things like playing more in tune, making you or the listener happier, etc. The type of instrument you play can make this even stronger. For instance, playing a cello or bass is better for grounding vs a violin.

-  charm the music you play to do various spells when you play them: change yours or others emotional state, curses, anything really. I like to think of it like sigils, where you charge the music with your intent and playing it can activate the spell.

- on the topic of sigils, put them on your case or music to use them later. You can also put stickers on your case charged with safe travel, protection, etc.

- Put an actual spell on your case to protect your instrument, provide grounding/stability, a find me or theft protection spell, etc

- Use the act of cleaning your instrument! For woodwinds, cleaning all that nasty spit can be a way of cleansing the instrument of negativity/negative thoughts or you can imagine yourself by extension. Polishing can be used to correct mistakes and negativity as well.

- Use your voice! It’s such a strong and powerful instrument at no cost. Sing an original spell or use a song you like, charge the words with your intent, and make it so by singing it into existence.

- compose your own piece. There’s so much power involved in making your own composition because so many little decisions need to be made to further the intent of your spell. What key? What mode? What instruments? What chords? Do the notes stagnate? Go up? Down?

- Play as an offering for deities or spirits. By doing this, you put energy not only in the music but in deciding what they would like or what feels like them.

- Use the energy in making music as an energetic exercise. When playing, feel your aura and work with raising/lowering it or sensing others and what they’re feeling. I know this sounds weird and I’m not explaining this too well, but when I play I can feel energy better. Maybe it’s because my conscious mind is busy and my subconscious comes out more easily?

- A lot of these can be even stronger when done with a group. Not only is it more people throwing their energy into the mix, but you can play with the different instruments and music.

- there’s literally so many different things you can do these are just things i can think of off the top of my head.

Enjoy and hopefully this helped someone!

So, I grew up on an island, which means I grew up with a little bit of beach lore that I realized, recently, might not be widespread information, especially inland. So, just in case, anyone is unaware, I wanted to share with you about these:

(photos by me)

These are called wishing stones, where I’m from. A dark stone with an unbroken, naturally occurring white ring around it, not too hard to find on most rocky beaches. What you’re supposed to do is toss it into the water as you make a wish — but I’m sure sea witch tumblr can think of a lot more creative uses for them ;)

That’s all. Just wanted to share a bit of local (or not so local, again, I’m not sure whether other places pass this lore on too), super simple sea witchery that anyone can partake in. Enjoy!

Moon Water

What you Need:

  • Glass Jar with Lid
  • Water

Instructions:

  • You can use water from any source including, rain, snow river, ocean, lake, pond, swamp, tap or bottled. I prefer to use tap water.
  • Charge it with your intention or something you’d like to manifest.
  • Place the jar of water outside under the full moon. Leave it outside all night to let it soak up lunar energies. Just make sure to bring it inside before the sun rises. If the sun touches the water it’s no longer moon water.
  • If you don’t want to wake up before the crack of dawn, leave the jar of water outside for at least a couple of hours or for however long feels right for you.

What can you do with Moon Water?

  • Use Moon Water to water your plants. Sing and whisper things to them while watering with Moon Water.
  • Add some moon water to your ritual bath water. While soaking away visualize lunar energy making the water glow filling you with peace and tranquility. Drain when you feel like you’re glowing.
  • When drawing protection sigils on all the doors, windows, and mirrors in your house using Moon Water. It’s especially powerful the morning after charging water under the Full Moon.
  • Placing a drop on your third eye when doing daily tarot readings helps tap into your intuition, to understand and decipher the cards without looking at the book.
  • Before beginning meditations, drawing a pentacle on your third eye with Moon Water for psychic insight and protection helps you stay focused and able to do trance work well.
  • A small jar of Moon Water should sit on your altar as a representation of the water element. Charge the water with Joy and Optimism or whatever you wish to charge it with.
  • After putting crystals under the moon, using Moon Water to cleanse them before activating their properties. Set their intention more precisely.
  • Before a ritual and to get into a witchy head space, take a sip of Moon Water. Should help you feel more magickal and intuitive.
  • Use Moon Water when cooking breads for offerings. Should help make the process more spiritual while putting love into the process.
  • Put a bit of Moon Water into your pets water dish or fish tank. Pet them or talk to them while they are drinking the water. Let them know that the water they are bringing into themselves is so that the psychic connection can be strengthened. By verbalizing it you are using your power/setting an intention for the connection to happen.
  • Using Moon Water to cleanse a new object that has come into your possession. Before doing that Sage it and then rub it down with Moon Water to cleanse it of it’s previous owners energies.
