#autistic headcanon

LIVE

Happy autism month! I made an art video about my favourite autistic headcanons, check it out

Continuing on the topic of autistic headcanons, here’s my boy Hyakkimaru. The 2019 anime one is so autistic, it warms my heart– I mean, it gives me FIRE!

You can see the process & my thoughts on my YouTube channel!

Happy Autism Acceptance Month!

Here’s Rin Tezuka, the wonderful disabled artist who is 100000% relatable. I headcanon her as autistic!

K and Evan are autistic bc I (an autistic person) said so

One of the really, really frustrating things about being autistic is that you feel like you spend your life trying to reach some sort of unattainable middle-ground:

- We’re criticised for not making enough conversation, but when we do actually really get in to a conversation we are told we’re ‘too intense’.

- We’re often trained to maintain unbroken eye-contact during conversations, yet in reality too much eye-contact is called ‘staring’ and makes people very, veryuncomfortable.

- We’re encouraged to ‘express’ ourselves more, yet our actual, genuine emotional reactions are usually deemed ‘innapropiate’ or ‘unnescessary’.

- We’re told to be friendly and confident when approaching new people, but are then warned that we ‘come off too strong’.

- We are told to try and make interesting conversation, but are also taught that speaking about our interests will only ever annoy other people.

- We’re asked to explain our difficulties and anxieties, only to be told that these explanations ‘make no sense’ or that our worries are unrealistic and invalid.

- We’re expected to force ourselves in to social situations that feel overwhelming and draining yet still somehow remain friendly, good-tempered and pleasantly sociable.

- We are encouraged to develop good self-esteem, while at the exact same time being taught that everything about us is wrong.

I don’t hate having autism - I’ve never hated having autism. But I do hate living with the never-ending pressure to attain this mythological ‘perfect’ level of social interaction that simply doesn’t exist in my case.

-We are told to use coping mechanism when we need them, but when we implement them we’re told to stop, act appropriately, and push through the situation “normally”.

- We’re told to pursue our creative passions, because according to diagnostic stereotypes we’re not supposed to have them, but when we prove adept and imaginative at making art, we’re dismissed as having unreasonable fixations, escapist tendencies, and wasting our time on producing content that has no value in capitalist terms.  And even if we do make some money off our creative pursuits—unless we’re one of the infinitesimal percentage of creators who make millions—we’re told it’s not and never will be a real job.

…this is so depressingly true that I’m going to sit here, read it again, and pout autistically for a while. Until my ADHD brain sees something shinier.

I mean… I try so hard and get so far, but in the end it doesn’t really matter… and if I said anything more I’d be a whole Linkin Park song. But I try, I really do. It just doesn’t work out unless the people I’m interacting with are either part of a neurotribe or at least understand the issues.

-Asta, Luck, Noelle, Yuno, Finral, The Wizard King, Charmy and Yami are all autistic, or on the spectrum

-Actually most if not all the charcters are neurodivergent in one or another

-Vanessa, Noelle and Finral are all bisexual

-Asta, Gauche are demisexual

-Grey was homeless before she ended up with the Black Bulls.

-I also headcannon Grey as using She/They pronouns, Gordon and Magna use He/They pronouns

-After Gauche warms up to the other bulls he starts giving them gifts and being very protective of them, this is because now he has someone to care for other than his sister. (He doesn’t love his sister any less but he now has new people to add to the list of originally one name)

-Vanessa and Finral went out their way to learn about Yami’s homeland so that he never forgot about his birth place, this included the language because Yami wasn’t the only person from his land to end up in Clover.

-The first time they spoke to Yami in his mother tongue, Yami may have cried a little but he totally corrected their pronunciation.

-Charmy isn’t entirely human but none really knows what she is.

-Gordon is the best at make-up and everyone goes to him for help.

-Henry is the best at any type of table-top or card games.

-Vanessa has a box filled with random items she picked up from all the places she got to see since leaving the Witches Forrest.

-Finral taught himself to be ambidextrous to give him another hand to open portals.

-Additionally, Finral likes jumping of tall buildings/trees only to open a portal as he falls, he says its for practice but he really just likes the adrenaline rush he get from it.

-Luck can have non-verbal episodes and Magna taught him sign language so that they could still talk even if it was without words.

-Noelle doesn’t know how to handle praise after going so long without it and when the other bulls figure this out they start complementing and praising the shit out of her

-All the Black Bulls are very touched starved and try to make up to it by being very touchy with each other

-Finral taught himself First Aid after he realised how much his squad mates get hurt

-Vanessa and Finral are 100% best friends who talk shit and platonically flirt with each other

-Henry joins in with this platonic flirting sometimes and its very sweet

-Henry and Asta are also very close because Asta doesn’t have any magic Henry can drain.

-Asta is one of the first people in a long time to hug Henry and it confused him to begin with but Henry very much enjoyed it

-Yami and Finral are the type of friends to bicker and mess with each other

-Charmy, Noelle and Yami are the best cooks

-Noelle hates the cold because she associates it with her childhood home and the cold treatment she faced

-Gordon makes dolls of his friends not to be creepy but to feel like they are always with him

-Yuno and Asta meet up all the time to spar and hang out.

-Finral wanted to go visit Langris many times before they sorted everything out but didn’t think he was wanted and didn’t wanna ‘embarrass’ his brother

Part 1

wondering if i’ll ever be able to be close enough to someone to actually fall in love with them haha. i’m going to be alone forever babe. fuck my autism and fuck my life.

i feel like i’m never going to find someone to love me, but yet i know realistically someone will probably love me, eventually, maybe. i’m not capable of touching people casually. i can’t even casually hug friends. so i doubt i’ll ever be able to kiss a girl on the cheek. or hug her. or do anything. human connections are so hard for me. i can barely hug my step-dad. the only person i can hug frequently and casually is my mom. i want to love someone and do all that lovey dovey shit but i feel like i just won’t be able to do it right. like i’ll fail and i don’t like failing at all. i also am afraid of rejection. i want a girlfriend but i feel like everyone my age is too immature for me so i feel like i won’t be able to get a girlfriend until college which makes me sad because i see other people in relationships around me. anyway yeah, love. it’s a thing. it’s scary. but i want it.

howdy folks

hi! i have ASD and i’m looking to make some friends who have it as well. is there anyone out there who plays video games like don’t starve together, overwatch, or paladins? cus we can play together :-) if not, we can just chat! hit me up fellas. i can even make a groupchat with people who are comfortable enough to be in it.

flapping

when I was younger I was bullied for flapping my arms and it really got to me. it was to the point where I forced myself to stop even though it caused me anxiety and a little bit of sadness. did anyone stop stimming in major ways, and instead developed extreme anxiety? i’m trying to figure out why anxiety around people developed literally RIGHT after I stopped stimming by flapping my arms. it was to the point where my therapist thought I had selective MUTISM and not ASD. so, did anyone else go through this?

Sharing this headcanon I have in honor of Autism Acceptance Month ♡

Disclaimer under the cut

Disclaimer: I’m aware that the disabled villain trope is problematic in itself and Venable is kind of a jerk, so I’d like to make it 100% clear that this hc’s come from a place of love and care, it is something that brings me a lot of comfort. Also I’m not demonizing these autistic traits (some of which I present myself), nor am I trying to use them to excuse any of Venable’s actions.

Honestly, though I am not above making multiple versions if people vibe with the idea enough…

(also I have a redbubble but I’m game for more suggestions of places to make stickers!)

They all look great!!! How can I pick only one?

Also, kinda wanna draw Batman wearing this symbol on his suit now

You absolutely MUST know that my headcanon for Bruce is he’s autistic.

And now I might have more things to draw …

i’d genuinely be so surprised if the crew confirmed that they didn’t write hunter with the intent of him being autistic because as an autistic person i think he checks off a LOT of boxes

I just watched Encanto and…

Autistic non-verbal Bruno headcanon.

No, really, I think it would have been so awesome and in line with the message of the movie.

Autistic non-verbal Bruno with the gift to see the future, but the inability to share his gift fully with others, because he can’t communicate verbally and the others aren’t willing to take the time to understand him.

Autistic non-verbal Bruno overwhelmed by the pressure to be as “good” and “perfect” as the rest of his family, and trying so hard to help and communicate, but everyone misinterprets his visions and always thinks about the worst outcome.

Autistic non-verbal Bruno who tries to save Mirabel from his vision and Abuela and everyone else misinterpreting it, and going into hiding behind the walls, because he loves his family too much to leave them forever, but feels he doesn’t belong with everyone else either.

Autistic non-verbal Bruno who finds a person who actually takes the time to understand him and his ways of communicating when Mirabel comes into his life (alternatively, Dolores experiencing terrible misophobia because of her power and coming to a kind-of understanding of Bruno’s difficulties).

Autistic non-verbal Bruno who finds his own place in the family without having to change who he is, and everyone else accommodating his way of communicating, following Mirabel’s lead.

Autistic non-verbal Bruno!

First art of 2021!!! Drew my favorite autistic.

Mr. Darcy will always be autistic in my book.

autisticheadcanons:

  • Hyperempathy toward people he’s close to (Qui-Gon, Anakin, Padmé), low empathy toward people he isn’t close to.
  • He wears the same outfit in all 3 prequel movies, and his outfit in A New Hope is very close to it as well. This is common for Jedi, so that might be the reason, but it could also be because Obi-Wan is sensitive to fabrics and finds this outfit comfortable.
  • Dislikes the sensation of flying, especially when a reckless pilot like Anakin is in control (sensory overload).
  • Stims by touching his beard.
  • Obsessive about following the Jedi Code, even though he was trained by Qui-Gon, who follows the Code more loosely.
  • Uses sarcasm to cope with stressful, awkward, or otherwise negative situations.
  • Avoids confrontation. Not just physical confrontation, which he tries to avoid through negotiation and diplomacy (we don’t see much of this in the movies, but it’s implied), but emotional confrontation. He avoids having emotional conversations with people. This leads Anakin to believe Obi-Wan doesn’t care about him, and is also the reason Obi-Wan lies to Luke and tells him Darth Vader killed his father.
  • Not very in touch with or comfortable with his own or others’ emotions.
  • Just has lots of difficulty with emotions in general. Expressing them, talking about them, reading them in others (without the Force).
  • Speaking of which, relies on the Force to pick up emotional and nonverbal cues from others.
  • Frequently repeats himself (could be echolalia or scripting).
  • Much of his social interaction comes across as scripted, especially small talk, much of the advice he gives Anakin and later Luke, and some of his dramatic moments during fights.
  • Stoic and often expressionless. His facial expressions are rare and usually mild (small smiles, subtle looks of disappointment) unless he’s feeling very intense emotion.

winglssdemon:

Ever since that scene in the last season of the clone wars where Bo-Katan implies Obi-Wan didnt care enough for Satine, I cant stop thinking that Obi-Wan doesn’t show his emotions in quite a neurotypical fashion. I know a lot of people just automatically assume its “emotion trained out of him by the evil jedi” but even other jedi characters do seem to have more facial and visual cues in their expressions. Obi-Wan’s most clear emotions seems to come out in heightened times of stress (Battle of Theed, Mandalore, Mustafar), and if he can he tries to hide what he can (Turning away from Bo-Katan and everyone else after her accusation). He also has certain mannerisms that he falls back on such as chin stroking and folding his arms underneath his clock. I often feel like his and Anakins missed communication skills come from not Obi-Wan not caring or trying to get Anakin to stop talking about things but that Anakin assumes that Obi-Wan doesn’t want him to talk even when he offers because he’s not portraying the “correct” emotions. Obi-Wan does take the time to check on Anakin and ask how he’s doing and even talks to others about his worry for Anakin, but he also doesn’t push Anakin to tell him. Anakin seems to have a personality where he both pushes and wants to be pushed but Obi-Wan seems to want to wait until Anakin is ready. Unfortunately Anakin most likely is ready, he’s just waiting for answer from a cue that Obi-Wan doesnt see.

Anyways the point is that, I can 100% see Obi-Wan on the autistic spectrum. Adherence to tradition and routine (or at least wants and tries to do so, see his Jedi specific clothing when its not required), self-soothing behavior (folding arms within his cloak, crossing arms), stimming (constant chin/beard stroking plus it was confirmed that Padawan!Obi-Wan chewed on his padawan braid), not following cues (see Anakin bringing up his dreams but not expanding on them, basically waiting for Obi-Wan to pry but Obi-Wan doesnt figure that out), emotions aren’t shown heavily and when they are its almost always in high stress situations, dislikes droids (no reason shown why), and extremely good with animals.

chiafett-moved:

Obi-Wan Kenobi is autistic and you can’t do anything about it sorry
