#autism acceptance month

LIVE

With more children getting diagnosed as autistic there’s more and more parents realizing that they’re also autistic. It’s a beautiful thing.

POCs and women are statistically less likely to be diagnosed as autistic. This not only means that they have a harder time getting a diagnosis, but they’re also less likely to be believed by the general public.

This is so harmful, and needs to stop!

I feel that imposter syndrome within the autistic community is so common. We’re constantly told “you don’t look autistic” that sometimes we believe it. It’s okay though. You’re not alone in feeling this. Don’t listen to those doubts, and embrace your autistic self!

April is Autism Acceptance month! You want to be accepting? You want to be supportive? Be accommodating.

People will say they accept autism, and then berate us for being autistic. Don’t tell us you accept us when you regularly punish us for being ourselves.

Continuing on the topic of autistic headcanons, here’s my boy Hyakkimaru. The 2019 anime one is so autistic, it warms my heart– I mean, it gives me FIRE!

You can see the process & my thoughts on my YouTube channel!

Continuing on the topic of autistic headcanons, here’s Snufkin. Super autistic, change my mind. Super relatable too.

I had fun painting him with watercolours!

Happy Autism Acceptance Month!

Here’s Rin Tezuka, the wonderful disabled artist who is 100000% relatable. I headcanon her as autistic!

In the Peacemaker fandom, so many have headcanoned Adrian as Autistic that on the Vigilmaker Sluts server, which is mostly a bunch of neurodivergent fans, came up with this Bingo/Topic card to fill in. The goal is to focus on Adrian and character studies or look at Adrian with interactions of family or the 11th St. Kids. We are avoiding Y/N or self insert style fics as they tend to ignore Adrian’s more Autistic traits or tries to fix them.

*Psst* we were the Autistics that didn’t get Awareness to Acceptance update, but we support it, so please tag any stories with the change!

Quick explanation for gringues, I made a 9 hour livestream to donate to a brazillian autism association! made ms paint art and got 39,55 dollars which is a pretty big number to us!

How does it feel to be autistic in a world of predominantly neurotypicals you ask?

It feels like life is one big soup, and I’m a fork ‍♀️

Happy Autism Acceptance Week to all my amazing fellow autistic friends!! ❤️❤️❤️

Autistic people are underappreciated, undervalued and underestimated members of society. We are treated as if there is something wrong with us, we are told we need to be “cured”, we are discriminated against and bullied for the way our brains are wired. We don’t just deserve awareness, we deserve acceptance. Life for autistic people will never change unless we are accepted and appreciated in society for the amazingly wonderful people we are. We deserve more than just awareness!!!

Do autistic kids “grow out” of their autism? Why does it sometimes seem like there are so few autistic adults?

For Autism Acceptance Month, I covered this topic in this comic to help explain this disconnect!

Less than 20% of autistic adults are in full-time employment. Many of us drop out of the workforce after just a few years. Why is that?

Today I’m posting my comic about Autistic Burnout as part of #AutisticComicTakeover!

Sharing this headcanon I have in honor of Autism Acceptance Month ♡

Disclaimer under the cut

Disclaimer: I’m aware that the disabled villain trope is problematic in itself and Venable is kind of a jerk, so I’d like to make it 100% clear that this hc’s come from a place of love and care, it is something that brings me a lot of comfort. Also I’m not demonizing these autistic traits (some of which I present myself), nor am I trying to use them to excuse any of Venable’s actions.

this isn’t literal, just how it feels sometimes

It’s not new, it’s not going anywhere, and it isn’t a problem to be solved.

Its Autism Acceptance Month - many people in the aro and ace communities are neurodivergent in some way, and specifically autistic. Here’s our article on some of the ways these identities intersect: https://taaap.org/2022/04/23/autism-and-aspec-identities/

[ID: The first infographic reads “Autism and Aspec Identities. Research suggests that autistic individuals are over twice as likely to identify as non-heterosexual than allistic individuals. 36.5 % of respondents to the 2020 Aro Census identified as neurodiverse. 17.5% of respondents to the 2019 Ace Community Survey identified as autistic.” There are pictures of a pair of headphones with rainbows and an infinity sign on them, and a blue jacket with a rainbow on the back as well as an infinity sign.

The second infographic reads “Autism and Aspec Identities. Autistic people may find that their orientations are influenced by touch sensitivities and aversions, social aversions, and/or not internalizing social norms. Allistic people often stereotype autistic people as cold, unfeeling, and/or as child-like. This leaves autistic aspecs in a double bind in which their lack of romantic and/or sexual attraction gets wrapped up in this stereotype rather than being seen as a valid identity.“ There are pictures of a sneaker with a rainbow and infinity sign on it, a baseball cap with a rainbow infinity sign, and a pair of rainbow earrings with infinity signs on them. End ID.]

Remember that not every Autistic presents in the same way, we aren’t a monolith, and ADHD shares 80 percent comorbidities to the point where advocates are seeking deeper connections. So many of us have ADHD that everything is sliding around a Mobius Strip Spectrum.
