It’s not because I’m single right now, that’s not it. Valentines Day can be stressful to both single people and people in relationships, and that’s why I don’t like it. It’s a day that is regarded as a testament to love between two people. A day when you’re supposed to be spending time with a special someone who adores you.
If you’re single, then Valentine’s Day sucks simply because you have no one close to share your love with. You begin to remember that you’re by yourself in terms of having a deep bond with someone, and you look at couples with envy and wish you had what they have. You’ll end up going out with your other single friends, or you’ll grab a bottle of alcohol and sit around gaming and watching TV all day. But in the end, the day still reminds you that you’re currently alone.
If you’re in a relationship, then the day becomes a stress on you and your partner, because now you both feel obligated and required to go out somewhere fancy and get each other gifts and crap. You feel like if you don’t then your partner will be annoyed and frustrated with you. That is…unless you have that laid back partner who doesn’t give a shit, in which case you’ve got something real special there. But lots of couples sadly aren’t like that, because they want to make the best of the day with the one they love. I recall last year, when it was Valentine’s Day, my poor ex called me up crying because she couldn’t spend time with me on that “special day”, and it hurt to see her like that. She was upset simply because we couldn’t spend time together on this extra special day when you’re supposed to be with your partner enjoying yourselves.
In reality, Valentine’s Day is another ordinary day on the calender. The problem lies within the fact that we attached a stupid label to it, one that makes people stress about keeping their partners pleased on that particular day.
It doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom though. With the shitty reminders V-Day brings about being single, it does also make me remember I have my family and friends. It’s not the same love that a girlfriend or wife might give you, but it’s a nice reminder that you’re not truly alone.
I hope all of you have a good Valentine’s Day. Don’t stress yourselves, and enjoy your life for what it’s worth.

you don’t have to have Hated girly things when you were younger/before you knew you were a trans guy in order to be Valid cos like. when i was little i was SUPER girly, i loved all that pink, dressy, frilly lace and dress up stuff, i lived for makeup and getting my nails painted! i loved all of it! regardless, when i grew up and learned about that stuff, and what it meant to be trans, that just sat right with me. i’d felt off for so long and after i finally got to test that out, try out a new name and use he/him pronouns that just felt. Right. and i still love makeup and nail polish and stuff. all that “girly” stuff has nothing to do with your gender identity. because that stuff has no gender lmao

(gender euphoria is (as far as I know) an extension of gender dysphoria if you want to be technical and correct) but otherwise so true!
Yeah that’s true :0 I didn’t dig too deep on that, but you’re right !! there’s just some people who don’t make that association and think if you don’t loathe your body then you’re not valid and therefore Not Trans and I think that’s silly :/
One thing I’ve been thinking is that Kagami really returned to Japan to continue middle school during the worst time possible.
Teikou’s drama caused a lot of collateral damage, every school they played against felt like they were out of this world and gave up on winning, I imagine that even schools who just witnessed one of their one-sided games felt the same.
Kagami didn’t even know who was the Generation of Miracles so that means that his school directly didn’t attempt to participate in any tournament while he was there. Not only that but Kagami himself is a prodigy so maybe he was surrounded by that energy, people who just conformed to their base talent and didn’t aspire for more, and made Kagami feel like he was untouchable. Cut from a different cloth.
What if that was contagious to Kagami and he started thinking that the reason why the basketball he had seen in Japan sucked was because of the lack of overwhelming talented people and not because of a matter of motivation?
I think that’s the reason for the change of mentality. Kagami is a challenger by nature, not only a challenger but someone who takes his goals very seriously so if someone is weak and “cut from a different cloth” and therefore their aspirations would be impossible wouldn’t be better to look for something better to do? Some other goal they can accomplish for real?
Kuroko came to his life exactly in the right moment, to teach him how wrong he was, just like Kagami came to Kuroko’s when he was looking for his answer.

my piece for the zine was specifically about the dissonance of gordon’s memories of half life canon vs the reinterpretation created by hlvrai - and his subtle identity crisis as a result of it. i put so much detail into the mirrors and their symbolism to represent this theme, but a significant chunk of the details are covered up by gordon… so here’s what the mirrors look like without the filters, and without gordon blocking them. with commentary on their meaning:
the first mirror is the reflection of hlvrai’s canon - the unique cast, and their unique experiences… but with a subtle hint of something else, more horrifying bleeding in - the metatext regarding the universe as a video game and how it effects coomer in particular, and the continued dissonance of the canons - represented by father grigori’s dirty sneakers. father grigori being one of the two hl2 characters that had a brief, if almost unnoticeable, cameo in hlvrai.
the second mirror is the reflection of who gordon is… or who he isn’t? after all, gordon never agrees with anyone’s claims of what must be true of reality in hlvrai. his perception of himself and the perception others have of him must be inherently in-congruent as a result - because they are of two completely different minds about their reality. of course, representing that visually is a challenge conceptually? so, i used a mixture of other gordon interpretations in the fractured glass to represent this idea, in addition to the likeness of wayne himself. after all, technically the media res of hlvrai is that wayne is playing half life vr… while also portraying gordon as a character separate from himself. so who is gordon freeman, really?
and the third mirror… for the most part is the reflection of the broken code and original half life universe, and how it’d been jumbled up to create hlvrai as it is recognized - such as t-posing barney being the other hl1/hl2 character that appears completely intact in hlvrai, aside from the uncontrollable t-posing. of course, the rest was actually largely headcanon on my part - various characters and their codes and their models getting switched around and swapped and changing throughout the franchise and within hlvrai specifically; like gina for instance being the basis of coomer, i think, since they are both the tutorial character - and once i ran out of characters i felt actually conveyed this theme well, i decided to utilize the remaining fracture space by drawing g-man’s suit, hlvrai’s pikachu cameo, in addition to alyx from both wayne’s original hl:a stream and the gnome edition stream of hl:a (and how she is connected to hlvrai through those two streams and through wayne’s hl2vr stream which served as the prototype to hlvrai)
