I’ve added a new option for my fairy garden mushrooms on Etsy! They’re now available with a flat base instead of a plant stake for different display options. This has been requested by several customers for use in their aquariums so I thought I should make it an option on the listing.
I’ve added a few new wintery items to the Etsy shop for the holiday season including some Christmasy mushrooms! The Amanita Muscaria mushroom is found throughout the Northern hemisphere often growing under conifer trees during the winter months. Dating back to prehistoric times, these mushrooms have been eaten by reindeer in the Arctic and used for their mind altering properties by Shamanic cultures during winter solstice rituals. It is said that these shaman and the red and white color of the mushrooms are part of the inspiration behind today’s common depiction of Santa Claus and his red and white suit, as well as his flying reindeer. Handmade glass Amanita pendants are now available made-to-order in the shop along with glass candy canes, holly and mistletoe pendants for the season. . . . .
The name for this genus of mushrooms is Canthaellus which comes from the greek word “cantharus” that is a goblet like cup with a similar basic shape. You’ll probably be more likely to know their common name: Chanterelles! They’re one of a edible mushroom forager’s favorite finds but are not to be confused with their poisonous look-a-like: the jack o’lantern mushroom. Chanterelles are a mycorrhizal fungi, meaning that they form symbiotic relationships with plants to grow, which makes them difficult to cultivate outside of their wild environments. These glass ones I’ve made don’t have that problem.

Yet another mushroom collar design but I used some metal patina paints to make it colorful. What do you think? Should I make more with color or leave some plain copper?
