Learning to love yourself is not always the easiest accomplishment.
Sometimes it’s harder to face the flawed parts of oneself than it is to adore the impurities of someone else.
To wake up every morning and look in a different mirror everyday just see the same face. The same blemishes, the same scars…are you scared? Scared you won’t be good enough, that they won’t fall in love with your heart?
Your ways of imperfection are not your flaws they are the unique colors no one else could possibly create. Embrace that fine “painted” line that there is more to you than the reflection in the mirror that you can’t escape. Learn to fall in love with your perfectly imperfect face.

Thoughts chase symbolic actions, hoping for reactions that can encourage the next chapters sweet lullabies.
The way your eyes rock me to sleep I never imagined my life would bring such hope in things unreached, but honestly now I’m inclined to hope and destined to dream that such a thing could happen to a soul like me… That love would take me to such heights I would grow wings and learn to fly.
Where I would no longer be enslaved by wasted time and fear of cold lonely night would escape my poisoned mind.
Where “what if’s” turn into “this is IT.” ….where the depth of my understanding can’t make sense of how you make me forget the way you drain the pain from my brain like organic juice squeezed straight from the fruit, purity. Is. YOU.__

When I need hope I always find it in nature, it’s resilience and wonder. Whiteness and capitalism makes us believe we are at odds with the natural world and not a part of it, that we must subdue it and not live in harmony. It’s interesting for me to look at some of these excerpts from my poems and recontextualize the lines in our current moment—this is from my poem “Along the Spent Horizon”, a poem specifically about personal grief, but it is of course much more than that and when I isolate my own lines I am easily reminded of this. There are so many ends and beginnings, and every moment of history brings us to our present moment. Thinking about the new world we must make together, what we must leave behind, what we must take with us, what articulation of our pasts we require to give language to our present and future lives. There is no easy way… no, and that’s why we must do this work of documentation and articulation and interpretation, to hold the many truths for our many selves. I’m rambling now, but if we are to make a new beginning we must contend with our endings and know how and why we got there, here, by the roads we did. A new world is possible and it is owed.
