#procrastination
I think I just found a hack to my productivity?
I need to find a summer job (I know I should already have one, procrastination’s a bitch) but mother’s day is coming up and I need to order my stepmom a gift. I found something I think she’d like but I’m not going to order it until I apply to some jobs. I have everything ready to go, I just have to confirm my order really but I’m going to get the most satisfying outcome out of finishing my tasks. Essentially, I’m giving something without a clear deadline (get a job) a deadline by proxy (can’t order time sensitive gift until I get a job). Kinda a dangerous game if you let things pile up but I think I’m onto something.
Look I made a thing
Oh my gosh. This gives me life.
Add anxiety to the mix and you got 10+ years of procrastination on a single appointment.
I’m back on YouTube with a new video on how to avoid procrastination! i really struggled with this last year, so hopefully these tips I developed will help some of you through this tough period. I believe in you!! click here to watch

me: Do it.
me to me: But I don’t want to.
me: That’s a solid argument. Don’t do it then
So… I made a thing…
It’s been awhile since I’ve done any crocheting or knitting, so I was kinda slow making this bag.
Also, can not figure out how to bring my crocodile stitches to a nice point… So rather than looking like dragon scales, it looks like flower petals. Still pretty, just not what I was going for lol
Ah, and it’s purpose is to be a dice bag ;)
It’s time to get out. And I know this. We are long past good and into something unfamiliar and unpleasant. I know that, but my heart keeps saying, “just a little longer.”
“You’ll waste your life waiting,” logic reminds me.
And I know this but the hope and the what ifs push me forward. “Just a little bit longer,” my heart reminds me, and I wait knowing I’m delaying the inevitable

I’m interested in knowing what you guys are up to!!
As I enter the final term of my masters degree and begin writing my dissertation, I’m also starting to think about what my life will look like in the next couple years after graduation, and what/where I want to start planning and applying to for future experiences. Would love to hear about what you guys are up to, whether that’s in the realm of anthro/archaeology or something completely different!
Share with me your stress, accomplishments, uncertainties, and plans! Take this time to brag about what you’ve been doing, because we all deserve to feel good about our accomplishments!
Feel free to share, comment, or dm!

What I’ve been up to lately:
I’m in the last term of classes for my MSc in Archaeological Information Systems, will start writing my dissertation very soon/have done a bit of research for it. Currently waiting on news from Fulbright about doing research in Cambodia for the 2019-2020 year on the site that I’m currently researching. Will be co-directing a project in Cambodia this Spring. Planning on doing a Phd, will depend on how the Fulbright turns out/ where that leads. Currently learning Japanese in hopes of living in Japan for a couple years in the future. Would love to make this relevant to what I’m doing in Digital Archaeology if I can.
Big plans & exciting things coming up!
- Use an inbox system. Make the habit of keeping track of all the ideas and things that comes to mind. You can use a notebook to do this, and then sync everything on your computer.
- Prioritize. If you have a list of things to do, where do you start? One way is to prioritize your list. If you are in doubt, ask yourself: “If I could only accomplish one thing today, what would it be?”
- Plan, but not too much. Planning is important, and you should decide in advance what you are going to do today or this week. However, planning for more than a few weeks is usually inefficient, so I would not worry too much about that.
- Wake up early. Waking up early in the morning is a great way to gain extra time. I personally like to wake up at 5 am, so that by 9 am I have already accomplished what otherwise would have taken me many days..
- Check your email only twice per day. Email can easily become an addiction, but it’s usually unnecessary to check it every 10 minutes. Make an effort and check your email only once or twice per day, see if the world will still rotate as before after you try this.
- Eliminate unimportant tasks. Being busy all day does not mean you are doing important stuff. Eliminate every activity that’s not important, and focus on what really matters.
- Clean off your desk and room. Having a clear room and desk is important to maintain focus and creativity.
- Automate. There are a lot of tasks that you need to perform every day or every week. Try to automate them as much as possible.
- Set strict deadlines. When you do something, decide in advance when you’re going to stop. There’s a rule that states that you will fulfill all the time you have available for completing a task, so make an habit of setting strict deadlines for maximizing your productivity.
- Take one day off per week. Instead of working every day, take one day off per week (for example sunday) where you are not going to turn on your computer. Use that time for doing recreational activities like going for a walk.
OK YALL APPRENTLY THIS IS A SYMPTOM OF BRAIN DAMAGE AFTER A STROKE AND I DIDNT FIND OUT UNTIL TODAY DBHDJFKGK LMAOOOOO rip me
Good news tho its reversable
i grab this post and i shake it with my little fucking hands
edit: im glad that this shitpost is relatable to fellows with adhd but please know that I made this shitpost specifically because of symptom i was experiencing with condition that affected my fine motor skills and diminished my ability to literally type and use my fingers. This is not a self-diagnosis from a single symptom thing lmao
Me when I know what I want to type on my computer but my hands aren’t co-operating.

It feels so good in the moment - but in the end, you’re really only screwing yourself.
fun fact: procrastination happens to animals too. it’s a naturall thing.
animal equivalents for scrolling tumblr include:
- hamsters starting to wash their faces in inaproppriate situations
- hyenas stopping everything and starting to dig holes in the ground.
- seagulls starting to ruffle their feathers instead of doing important things
this happens for two reasons:
1) an animal is in the situation where none of the standard scenarious it has are fitting, so it does the next best thing
(example: hamsters were put in a vibrating bowl, they couldn’t run or attack, so in about a minute they stopped everything and started washing their faces.)
2) an animal has two conflicting instincts fighting for dominance, so the third one, usualy suppressed by them, kicks in.
(example: when two hyenas meet at the border of their territories, they have an instinct to protect their own territory conflict with an instinct not to cross someone else’s. they don’t know if they need to attack or leave, so both start digging holes in the ground.
example: a seagull sitting on the nest needs to protect her children, but also has to go get some food. instead a seagull settles for ruffling her feathers for two hours.)
with humans it’s usually the second reason.
(example: I’m tired and I want to go to sleep, but I should write an essay for tomorrow. both these things are important, so I’m procrastinating them by writing this post.)
nature is beautiful.
I’m gonna go to sleep now.
