summary:

Superheroes AU. Roman, Patton and Virgil are a team of good guys who fight against Evil (Janus and Remus). They get Logan to work for them with like hacking and getting important information from the villains. But Janus tries to convince Logan that he deserves better.

I wrote this in a bit of a hurry because I have schoolwork to do but I also want to procrastinate so I just translated this part of a daydream I’ve had for a while into words. So sorry if it’s not great.

Title from Not What I Meant by dodie.

warnings: Even though he has no dialogues, i made roman (and patton and virgil) kinda mean to Logan again. i’m sorry (not) but i’m not creative and it’s really the easiest way for me to make Logan suffer and want to move to the Dark Side lol

Logan walked inside the building as silently as he could, following close behind Anxiety. Prince was leading the group, with Morality by his side, Anxiety was just behind them and Logan was last, struggling to keep up with their pace while also staying quiet. He had a habit of bumping into things.

They made it through the back entrance all the way to the stairs without crossing a single person, Logan had made sure they’d come at an hour when the way would be empty, and he also disabled the cameras with which they could be spotted. At this point, Prince decided it was time to split up. Each of them would search in one of the four floors of the building, Logan got the second one. He followed the instruction and began exploring the labyrinth of hallways on his own.

He didn’t really want to participate in this. He did his best work from a safe distance, sitting down and staring into a wide computer screen. Alas, Prince said it was urgent that they found and retrieved the stolen relic before anything happened to it, and they needed Logan to cover the most distance in the least amount of time.

To “look in every room for the small, golden crown” sounded easy enough. However, Logan struggled to move fast while keeping quiet. It was hard to tell if he was making any noise through the pounding of his heart in his ears. He had never done anything like this. All he hoped was to not get caught. He prioritized being quiet over velocity, walking slowly and carefully.

He picked the lock of the third room in his second hallway and walked inside. The entire building was mostly empty and extremely clean in an uncanny way. The rooms in this floor seemed to be for offices, some bigger, with several desks and file organizers. This one was smaller; it was probably for storage. It had no windows, only illuminated by a yellow light bulb hanging from the ceiling. There was an empty shelf rack on one side and a few plastic containers of cleaning products on the floor. He crouched down to look for anything on the floor between the shelf and the wall.

As he did so, he heard the door close behind him. He stood up, but before he could turn around he was shoved to the wall and his mouth was covered by a hand in a yellow glove. Logan didn’t have to look up from it to know who had caught him. The yellow gloves were his signature. Logan breathed deeply through his nose, as much as he could, as the pounding in his ears returned. “You had one job,” he heard Prince’s annoyed voice in his head say.

Once he gathered the courage, Logan looked up.

He had read many descriptions of what Deceit looked like, his job was to research him and get inside his computer systems to allow the team to stop whatever he was planning. He had seen a few cryptic pictures of him, low quality camera footage. He knew he wore a black mask that covered the left half of his face, a bowler hat, a cape, and the famous yellow gloves. Still, all this knowledge wasn’t enough to prepare him to face the man in person so closely.

He was smiling. His right eye was brown, appearing completely normal, while the left one, behind the mask, was a vibrant saturated green, slitted like a reptile’s. Logan was captivated by both of them, so different and yet both had the same hypnotizing effect.

“You’re new,” Deceit said, with a low pitch that shook Logan to his core.

Logan just swallowed.

“You’re going to stay quiet, right, little mouse?” Deceit asked as he raised an eyebrow.

He was too frightened to even consider moving a muscle, let  alone speak. He did his best to nod ever so slightly, never moving his stare from the criminal’s eyes.

“I know who you are,” Deceit said as he pulled his hand away, without stepping backwards, staying too close to Logan for his comfort. “You’re the one that has been meddling in affairs that are not of your business.” His tone was calm, but Logan could feel the threat in his gaze. “I know they got someone else because none of those airheads could even get close to the information you’ve been trying to find. I might need to improve my security.”

Logan knew he was lying. He might have been able to find some information, but nowhere close to what could actually be useful. He had the suspicion, but now he was in this situation it was confirmed that all he could find had already been laid out intentionally by Deceit. It was better than nothing, though, he reminded himself of that.

”Do they pay you?”

“No, sir,” came out of his mouth before he could think. Perhaps Logan’s brain had translated the intimidating demeanor of this man into an authority figure, and addressed him as such.

There was a moment of silence. Logan had lowered his gaze but he could still feel Deceit studying him. Suddenly, the villain took Logan’s hands in his.

“Strong fingers,” he muttered, rubbing his thumb over Logan’s knuckles, “do you play piano?”

“I code.”

“Right.” Deceit hummed, still staring and Logan’s hands. “What a shame… I could teach you.”

“What do you want from me?”

“Oh, nothing at all,” he sounded almost offended by the accusation. “I just wanted to talk and get to know the new team member.” Deceit let go of his hands slowly. Logan pulled them up to cross his arms as soon as they were free.

“You’re wasting your time.” Logan’s irritation was allowing him to become a little braver.

“Ah, you mean because of your friends? Don’t worry about them, they won’t find anything.” He said with a smirk.

Logan bit his lip, ignoring the urge to correct him about the others being his friends. Only Virgil talked to him sometimes. Prince wouldn’t even tell him his real name. Logan wished Virgil was here now, he always knew how to escape difficult situations. He looked towards the door, trying to figure out a way to get out of this.

“Waiting for them?” Deceit asked with a mocking tone. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Maybe they forgot about you.”

“They didn’t.”

“How are you so sure?”

He wasn’t. He stayed quiet as Deceit grinned. His fangs were visible, and Logan couldn’t help but stare at them. He wondered if Deceit was venomous as some kind of unknown superpower. There were never civilians around to witness when he committed a crime, people only knew of his appearance through rumors. He never needed any supernatural ability to defeat Prince and the others, who all had their own, but maybe he kept it hidden, just like he did with everything else.

“You know, if you worked with me I wouldn’t leave you behind.” He gently uncrossed Logan’s arms to hold his hand once again. “I would appreciate you for the brilliant gem that you are, unlike those ungrateful, egotistical attention-seekers.”

“Flattery won’t get you anywhere.” Logan said. He couldn’t deny, however, that he had thought about leaving the team before. They needed him, though. And he needed them, they gave him a place to live and he had nowhere else to go.

“How about some proof, then? Since you’re such a pragmatic guy.”

Logan looked into the other’s eyes in confusion.

“Here’s my proposal,” he said, lifting Logan’s hand from the wrist. Then he pulled out a pair of handcuffs, to which Logan reacted by trying to pull his arm back, but Deceit was too strong. He gave up before getting hurt. “I’ll leave, and give you three minutes to make a choice.” After closing the handcuff over his wrist, he leaned over Logan’s shoulder to cuff both hands behind his back.

Logan had to make an effort to pay attention to what the man was saying over the panic growing in his chest.

“I’m going to leave that door unlocked for three minutes. If you leave, then this never happened, but I will keep trying to show you you’re better off on my side of the equation, where your work would actually have an impact, instead of leading those losers to more humiliation.

“After that, though, the door will lock, and you’ll have a chance to prove me wrong. If your friends still look for you and find you here before the day ends, then it’s proved that they care, and I’ll leave you alone. I won’t even interfere with your attempts at breaching my digital storage.” He smirked again, as if reminiscing about having fun with that. “So,” he laid his hands on Logan’s shoulders and whispered in his ear, “do we have a deal?”

Logan wanted to ask what would happen if no one found him, but he felt like doing so would be admitting defeat, which the faint hint of pride he had left wouldn’t allow. He was already too embarrassed from how hot his face felt from Deceit’s touch. He simply closed his eyes and nodded slightly. As if he had any other option.

“Wonderful!” Deceit’s smile showed his fangs off once more, as Logan tried to control his tachycardia. “I’ll see you later.” He finally said with a wink, before swiftly walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.

The lock was electronic, Logan observed.

His immediate impulse was to run out and get away as far as he could. He didn’t even have to go back to the team of heroes, he could find somewhere else to go.

As he struggled to reach the door and turn around to try to hold the handle with his cuffed hands, anxious thoughts plagued his mind.

Could he go somewhere else? Would he constantly be haunted by Deceit and other villains he had worked against? He didn’t have any powers, he wasn’t even strong or fast. Who knows what they would do to him if they found him. Would he survive out there on his own, without protection?

Maybe he should just look for the others. But what if they had left already? From what he could hear, the hallways were dead quiet. Logan didn’t know how long it had been since he split up from the rest. They didn’t bring any electronic devices to avoid being tracked. What if they were still here but Logan got lost searching for them? People said it was best to stay in one place if you wanted someone to find you. But could he stay there doing nothing?

What if Deceit broke his promise and was waiting for him right outside the door? That wasn’t improbable given his name. Would he mock him for being a coward? Did Logan care about being a coward more than his own safety? What if he wanted to hurt Logan, not before playing mind games with him for a while? What would Logan do without help? Would he take Logan hostage and threaten his life to get away with whatever he was planning on doing today?

He stopped for a moment to think, resting his forehead on the door. This was supposed to be easy. They promised him it would be.

Maybe Prince, Morality and Anxiety would find him. They did need him. Even if they didn’t always voice their appreciation Logan knew he was a crucial part of the team now. Even if they didn’t care about him as a person they should at least care about what he could do for them. Perhaps they would save him just for appearances, so Prince could have his heroic act of the day, since they probably weren’t able to find the relic they were looking for. Maybe they were looking for him right now.

Logan breathed deeply.

Then he heard the click of the lock activating.

There was nothing left to do now. So Logan waited.

In a security room somewhere else inside the building, Janus was looking at the cameras’ footage with Remus sitting by his side. On their left side, Logan was now sitting on the floor, with his back rested against the door. On the right, the entrance to the building was empty. Prince and his teammates had left hours ago, showing no sign of planning to come back.

“How long till we tell him?” Remus asked, propping up his feet on the desk and leaning his head back on the chair’s backrest.

“I told him that he had until the end of the day, can’t break a promise.”

“But you do that all the time!” Remus whined. “Last week you told me I could buy some arsenic with our booty and then you took it all!”

“I simply saved it for later.”

“Yeah, right. And tomorrow there will be another golden snake statue of mysterious origins in your house.”

“Listen,” Janus said, dismissing Remus with a wave of his hand. “I have to teach him a lesson.”

Remus looked back into the camera, where Logan still sat in the same position as before. “What are we going to do with him after?”

Janus shrugged. “We’ll find him some use.”

Logan didn’t have any way of telling how much time had passed. There wasn’t even any natural light in the small room, it could have been night for hours already and he wouldn’t be able to see any difference.

He estimated that an hour had passed when he began trying to escape. He tried everything, breaking the handcuffs, breaking the lock, sliding his hands free, tackling the door, looking for something to deactivate the lock, to dismantle it, or turn it off… Nothing worked.

Eventually he grew tired, sat back down on the floor, in one of the room’s corners, and waited some more. His head hurted, there was a knot in his throat, his eyes stinged and his muscles were shaking. It wasn’t long before he drifted off, and was fast asleep before he could realize.

Later, he felt he was being picked up slowly. With one arm on his back and the other below his knees, Logan could faintly see Deceit lifting him from the floor and pulling him close. He let his eyes close again, and rested his head against the other man’s chest, letting himself drift off once more as he was carried out of the storage room.

He opened his eyes fully as they walked out through the main entrance. It was dark outside.

Deceit put him down to allow him to sit in the back seat of an old car. Logan couldn’t see anything outside, he didn’t know if it was because of the darkness of the night or if the windows weren’t fully transparent. He counted his breaths as Deceit moved to the front seat. The driver’s seat was occupied by a man in a green suit covered in glitter.

“Where are we going?” Logan whispered when the car began moving.

Deceit made eye contact with him through the rearview mirror with a jarringly earnest expression. “Home.”

⭐what a great day to remember to tag ur sympathetic deceit/deceit ships⭐

But seriously guys, please do make sure that you tag at the very least, “deceit” on the post, as there are people who are triggered by him. A few people I know has come across posts about deceit multiple occasions for that very reason. Especially this week, as from what I’ve heard it is sympathetic deceit week.

Be mindful of your fellow fanders and remember to tag deceit if he’s in the post, especially if it’s a sympathetic deceit post!

Please remember this!

Wait a minute!!! Is the sympathetic deceit week and NOBODY TELLS ME???!!!

But yeah I always tagged my deceit stuff

Then this post wasn’t aimed at you.

Exactly! I would go even further and say that we should tag accordingly:

A deceit friendly/sympathetic post: #sympathetic deceit

A deceit ship: #[name of ship] + #deceit ships

Some people want to see deceit works, but not sympathetic ones, and they need proper tagging to ensure that they don’t get triggered. Tagging is easy and free.

The night is young as Janus travels down the road. He was traveling to the neighboring kingdom that was placed in the plains of this region. He pulled his stage and home forward as he trekked on. He was a stage magic performer and loved seeing the smiles that people, human or not, young or old, had when he pulled flowers from nowhere or made some gold coins appear from kids ears. He never spoke to them, leading most of his audiences to believe he was mute.

He was cursed to speak only in lies - something he was born with. A soul bound curse that held it’s effects until the day he dies. As long as he didn’t speak, no one would get hurt. He did know how to sign and write anyways so it wasn’t like he was without communication.

Besides, stage magic was a positive was of deceiving others. He had been on the road for a good few weeks - maybe three? The forest was illuminated by the pale moonlight as owls howled and night dwelling bugs buzzed in harmony. Estimated time to get to the next kingdom would be another three weeks and that was for him because of his walking/cart like stage and home. Normally someone could walk there in four to five weeks. Maybe a few days on horseback. Janus didn’t mind it, he liked the night, it is calm and peaceful.

Until it wasn’t.

Everything became deathly silent, almost like something did stop it.

“My my what do we have here?” A sickly sweet voice asked from the side of Janis. No one was there.

“A lone traveler, and with a stage, are you  a stage performer?” The other side - still there was no one!

“Would you like some company little shiftier?” He faced in front of him and was met with hypnotic black eyes. They…….they had only lust and hatred in them. They lusted after someone but hated them - wanted them dead. Janus couldn’t find it in him to pull away. his mind got more muddled, his true self pushed away from a spell and could do nothing to free himself.

“Doesn’t that feel nice my little pet? Now, I have a task for you. Return to the kingdom you just came from, kidnap the oldest prince and take his place. Then wait for the next step.”

Janus tried to break free from the bonds he was tied in! The princes don’t deserve this! No! It was no use. With in a weeks time, he would be in the place of one of the nicest people he ever met.

Based off of a Headcannon that I thought up for Deceit and him telling the truth without warning.

Contrary to popular belief, Deceit liked doing the dishes. It was calming and the water was always warm. He was a strange villain like that - liking one of the most hated chores of a human’s life. He also didn’t use his gloves while working, those were just for show and didn’t really want to ruin them.

His cloak was hanging from one of the dinning chairs despite the house not really having a dining table. More like a round table you would see for some home poker….oh sounds like something fun to do. His yellow leather gloves were on the mostly black cloak.

“Darn, it’s stuck.” Deceit grumbled as he tried in vain to scrub some gunk from on the plates. Failing with the scrub, he switched to his snake like hand. His left hand was covered with scales and his fingers were more like claws. Another reason he wore gloves, make him look less like a hybrid reptilian.

“Are - are you doing the dishes?” Oooooooooo, his host - Thomas - just asked him. With a quick flick of his fork tongue, Deceit could that Patton and Logan were with him. Right, they were with Thomas’s friends to do some short videos.

“Yes.” Deceit responded off the bat and the pain set in. It wasn’t so bad, more like a headache but still. The metallic taste of blood filled his mouth. Not much but just enough for it to dip from his mouth. The three didn’t seem to notice the blood on his body but Logan seemed to have noticed his flinch from the truth.

“Hey, kiddo,” Patton noticed something on the floor, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-oot. Was the blood dripping from the floor? “Did you hurt yourself? You shouldn’t be working if you are hurt.”

Patton, dear sweet Morality, never change.

“Ehhhhh it’s not that bad. Just told the truth.” SHIT! Is today truth day or something? Normally he isn’t this careless with his words. The damage was done, sharp pain sprung up his back. He choked on his blood; more of it spilled from his mouth and fell to the floor with a loud splat. He felt six eyes on his back, wait no, make that ten. Virgil and Roman just walked in.

“What’s going on down here pesens - is Deceit doing the dishes?” Roman is easy to distract but Virgil…..he’s too vigilant to stray from this matter. Just keep your back to them, maybe they won’t -

“I don’t think the dishes are the problem,” Virgil spoke - he noticed didn’t he? “Deceit is bleeding from mouth.” Well, monkey’s uncle…

“Deceit, are you okay?” Patton doesn’t even care if he impersonate him every now and then, god don’t change, the world needs more people like him. He is slightly shorter than Deceit; only because Deceit wears boots indoors, “Oh my god! You’re are covered in it!”

He was now facing all of them, Patton looked to be fighting himself and closet. Virgil and Roman seemed to be panicking over the amount of blood as seen their eyes. Logan, logical Logan, trying to keep a straight face but Deceit could see through the lie (lying was his job) he was internally panicking. And Thomas was….confused? Can’t really tell, he might be Deceit’s host, but that didn’t mean he could tell what was going through his mind - confusion would be the best bet with what the others were feeling.

“How can we help?” The logical aspect asked, lie or tell the truth…. Oh duck this, if he lies he will heal without them knowing. Telling the truth might be better - this is all based on the idea that the truth can hurt more than a lie.

“Nothing, when I tell the truth, I get hurt. When I lie, I get healed or stay healthy.” Deceit said and sharply flinched, he could feel the nasty bruise forming on his right shoulder. From everyone else’s expressions, it was pretty big. Patton looked like no wait he’s crying. Thomas was seconds from passing out, Virgil was trying his best not to look at it, Roman was fully not looking - pretty sure he wants to throw up -, and Logan’s pale face was most likely going over all kinds of facts in that his brain of his.

“If you heal by lying, why aren’t you lying?” Thomas chokes looking over the darker aspect. Deceit just shrugs not really understanding it himself and some non-verbal communication didn’t trigger the pain. Something like sign language would definitely trigger it.

“It’s not like it’s that painful.” Deceit lies, that pain on his shoulder duals some. Patton gasped seeing the effects of Deceit’s lying. Patton grabs tha hybrid reptilian by one of his arms and takes him to the bathroom to get him patch up. Seriously, this boy is too pure for this world!

“I can handle my own injuries Patton.”

“Don’t care, you need good ol’ Dad here to help you.” Deceit stuck his tongue out and only got a gasp.

“Your tongue! It’s like a snake! Does it work the same?’

“No it doesn’t. It is just your guy’s tongues.” The onslaught of metallic had stopped assaulting his senses. Patton quickly wiped the rest of the blood off. Then demand that Deceit take his clothes off to be washed. His bruise was still there but not as bad from when it first formed. Patton lefted to fetch roman to get some spare clothes until Deceit’s could be washed. A simple black and yellow shirt and black skinny jeans. Roman won’t let him leave the room until was dressed. Despite some minor differences (Logan and Patton’s blindness, Virgil and slouching, Deceit being part reptilian and Roman being taller than the rest even without the boots) they really didn’t have anything that no one hadn’t seen before. But Roman insisted for the lying aspect to wear the clothes.

“Well….this is comfortable.” The pain slowly dualed. Roman only muttered about humans and tight clothing. The two walked out to the living room where the other four were. Deceit went to the table to place his cloak and gloves back on.

“How are feeling Deceit?” Patton asked from his spot on the couch. Deceit only gave a so-so gesture. The snake aspect grabbed a pen and paper and wrote a quick message down. He pasted it to Roman who read the message,

“Gestures and written words do not trigger my reaction with the truth. This would be the safest way to tell you what you need to know.” Roman pasted the paper back to Deceit as the rest digest what was just read to them. Logan couldn’t help but ask,

“Why let Roman read?” Deceit only had to turn his paper over to relieve his cursive handwriting. Something only he and Roman shared. The others nodded seeing no one else in their family could write like that. Questions were flung at Deceit, who did the best he could to answer them truthfully. With Roman reading his handwriting and given gestures to try and answer, Deceit felt something growing inside himself.

Happiness, that is what he feels. Is this what Patton gives to Thomas? Happiness? Deceit helps everyone by hiding what they don’t want to feel or tell but if he lets them help him….is this that? Virgil protects all of them even himself for that is what he gives to Thomas. Patton is feelings Thomas needs and his morality; he helps others with their feelings. Roman helps Thomas and the others with confidence and creative exploration. Logan is knowledge, he is logic and a problem solver; he helps with facts and figuring multiple ways to help.

Deceit hides Patton’s depression and self hate. He hides Virgil’s own anxiety from overwhelming to others and Thomas. He hides Logan’s insecurities and loneliness so he feels more like one of the others. Deceit hides Roman low self-esteem so that he could lift the others up. Deceit hides what Thomas doesn’t want to see or hear. He tells him certain lies or to keep his spirits up. Only when Thomas wants him to, Deceit lifts the curtains and lets him see.

“Earth to Deceit!” Roman’s voice snaps the snake from his thoughts. The five were looking at him with mild concern.

“Mmmmm?” Deceit hums before writing down what he was thinking. Roman read it out loud,

“Sorry for spacing out, I was thinking of our roles with each other and Thomas. Not to alarm you but I do believe that I am feeling true happiness for the first time in my existence.”

“You have never felt happiness before?” Logan was holding Patton back from lunging himself at Deceit. The man looked like he was going to start crying again. Deceit was quick to write down a response,

“I have but not like this. Normally I have felt happiness from a job well done or from tricking someone. This just came from simply being heard and listened to without anyone judging me harshly.”

Patton was not restrained this time as even Thomas flung himself to hug Deceit. The other three didn’t want to get to close but understood that this was going to be a new deal. Deceit let the two hug him until he needed to make something clear. He quickly wrote it down before getting ready to head to his room.

“Don’t think I am not going to antagonistic to y’all, I still have a job to perform.” And then Deceit was gone, one dark chuckle was all that was left.

This will be fun.

What if the sides have their own sides and Thomas is just one giant nestling Russian doll thing??

I’m gonna have an existential crisis over this post.

Thomas is a turducken

Consider: ALL of /Thomas’s/ sides are grey sides. Each side splits into a dark and a light side individually - Pride and Imagination for Roman, Terror and Caution for Virgil, Control and Forward Thinking for Logan, Immorality and Self Care for Patton, and Self Preservation and Manipulation for Deceit. (Just a rough thinking, if anyone else wants to use this idea and tweak it go ahead)

Why Deciet was probably Patton

  • He arrived rather than sinking up
  • “I’m silly like that”
  • “Oh look it’s Logan, everyone’s favourite”
  • “Messenger falcons”
  • Bet he says adulting too
  • Not Enough Puns
  • Subtly creepy
  • Virgil straight up glaring
  • The way he says “I’m morality
  • The cut throat motion during the play
  • Since when has he ever not loved something Thomas did?
  • Didn’t say kiddo

What if in the next Sanders Sides video Thomas starts treating Virgil differently because of what was revealed at the end of Dealing with Intrusive Thoughts?

What if Logan and Roman treat him the same as they did before, and are possibly even nicer to him because of Thomas’s shift in opinion?

What if Patton doesn’t call him “kiddo” or a fun nickname and doesn’t look at him the same?

What if Logan has to get tough with Thomas and Patton for being so rude to Virgil? (“He’s the same as he was before. So, why scrutinize him for events prior to getting to know him?”)

What if Roman has to comfort Virgil because he knows what Remus is like, and can understand the pain Virgil must’ve went through when he was a dark side?

What if the last clip is Deceit teasing Virgil because of this and tells him, “We both knew this would happen. We both knew the moment they found out, everything would change.”?

What if Virgil actually believes him?

Just some thoughts.

you stop right there-

Shi-

Omg what if this is what sets Virgil over the edge and converts him back into a bad side. What if virge just gives into his delusions and it’s all down hill and edge from here like in Hamilton

AAAAAAAAAA-

Stop this or I will stab you

What if Virgil and Thomas are arguing and Virgil starts doing that thing where his voice is layered and deep and super loud and it scares Thomas really badly? What if the light sides stop him and get mad at him for being so aggressive with Thomas? What if Deceit appears to help comfort Thomas and Virgil feels out of place and he sinks away and no one notices until a long while later, when Thomas has calmed down? What if then Thomas realizes that he shouldn’t have reacted poorly to Virgils confession and he can feel Virgils presence but no body can summon Virgil and they don’t know why or where he went?????????
