So very rarely do i post but this is making me crazy!
My Mom Loves all things fantasy and S-Fi and and thinks it is so totally awesome that I am a Dungeon Master.
I have asked her multiple time if she wanted to play but she always comes up with some excuse to not play but will sit nearby fascinated by the game.
She finally admitted to me today that she thinks that at 57 she is “Too Old” to play even though she loves it.
PLEASE RE-BLOG THIS AS MANY TIME AS POSSIBLE TO HELP ME PROVE TO HER THAT SHE IS ALLOWED TO PLAY NO MATTER HER AGE!!!
Never too old. When I am a withered old geek I will DM in the nursing home!
Never too old. J.R.R Tolkien was 62 when he published LOTR. Imagination does not go away with age. If anything she has an advantage of many many more books and comics up her sleve <3
THIS
Also OP, probably tell her about Shirley Curry, a.k.a:
Skyrim Grandma
who, at the tender age of 83 (that’s right: eighty-three years old!) is not only a good Skyrim player, but also has at least 700 thousand fans (whom she calls “grandkids”), and is now being immortalized through (1) a Skyrim mod, and (2) The Elder Scrolls 6.
So yeah. No such thing as “too old” to play fantasy games, be it tabletop ones or PC ones.
D&D is just Playing Pretend for math nerds
I prefer “Structured Make Believe”, but… yeah, pretty much…
“I don’t think that every villain in the world actually thinks they’re being a good guy, but I do think that everybody creates a value system that justifies the actions they’re taking, and and I think there’s a difference between those two things. Not everybody believes that they’re on the side of righteousness, but everybody has a way of justifying the actions they’re taking. Not every villain has to be a misunderstood hero, and in fact I think there are a lot of instances throughout history of people who were obviously doing the wrong thing and probably had an understanding of that on some level, but had some rationale or justification for it. A lot of villains in literature and media have these weird, Thanos-esque philosophies of what it is that they’re trying to do, and I think human motivation tends to come from more primal places than that. So a lot of the villains I write can be brilliant or clever (and, in fact, probably should be), but their motivation tends to be primal. They wanna be rich, they wanna have power, they wanna live forever. There’s something deep down that is, when you break it down, not too complex. Right? If you look at the real world, the people that are doing bad stuff don’t need complex motivations. They wanna rule the world! They wanna be rich! They wanna be unafraid that other people can ever screw them over, so they screw other people over. Evil is boring. Right? I kinda believe in the banality and mundanes of evil. Evil is just selfish impulses, which at the end of the day are really easy to understand. It’s easy to understand why people do bad things. It’s like “yeah, ok, you’re selfish and scared and cruel, I get it”. Being good is complex and beautiful and hard.”—
Brennan Lee Mulligan, when asked how to create villains for ttrpgs
(I found this quote to be really meaningful in like…life in general which is why I posted it here. When he said “evil is boring”, it felt like something clicked in me that I had known deep down but hadn’t had the words for.)

Howdy all! Been a bit. So, remember those SCP items I did a while back? They actually did quite well and I had a lot of fun working on them. Well, I intended on doing a whole lot more of them, like what I’ve been doing with the Risk of Rain items. Do a batch at a time and work my way through the list. But that whole plan fell apart when I lost a bunch of the assets I used to make them and I think it was around that time I got overwhelmed with commissions so my personal projects had to take a back seat.
Now that that era of my work is over, I figured it was about time to start working on these again. But hey, since I have to redo everything anyway, why not redo everything? In a continuing effort to go back and revisit my old works, the original batch of SCP items were ripe for a rework.
And quite the rework they got! I’ve got a new Homebrewery theme that mixes old Containment Breach document details with an updated aesthetic, all in a relatively easy to use template that will let me make items much quicker in the future, as well as other SCP themed content. There are SO MANY other items I want to work on, and I’d love the chance to attempt to work on some of the creatures as well. Lots of fun mechanics to work out.
As for the items themselves, I rebuilt basically all of them from the ground up as many of them were super vague in how they worked and were honestly a mess. I also made the decision to not rework the Artist’s Pen. To be frank, while it was kind of a neat item, it wasn’t particularly useful so I swapped it out for something else from my list.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the finished product as much as I have.
