I am back from my break! While I have enough time to write occasionally, I don’t know yet if I will be able to post daily. Apologies if my uploads will be irregular for now, I hope it won’t stay like this. Thanks for sticking around and supporting me in any way!

I went to a local plant shop in New Orleans and apparently “garden cats” are a thing. I’m going to need 20~

((All of the cats were neutered, fully vetted, & cared for by the staff))

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.

I love you simply, without problems or pride:

I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

~Pablo Neruda~

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the world needs more examples of black men being kind to (and educated about) animals✨~

As a POC who is involved in animal care, rescue, and exotics I just want to say how few of us I see, and even fewer of us are male. I could write an essay about WHY it’s like that but the main gist is that we can change this by educating and giving people opportunities to overcome stigmas and fear.

Pictured above: my husband his dog, Valkyrie. The first dog he has ever picked out on his own, raised, and cared for himself.

Below: my husband and Mabel rose (who he swears he “doesn’t like that much”)

We clean up nice sometimes✨

We were both in a wedding this weekend and I think we look pretty snazzy

Gentle reminder~

no one is entitled to your mental energy

…and you’re not mean or wrong for gently but firmly reminding people of that.

There’s a reason I don’t ever say “pm me if you ever need to talk” on any of my posts, and my bio doesn’t say “dms always open”. I know that mentally I can’t handle other peoples problems and I’m not obligated to.

Maybe some people can (and that’s great) but it’s okay if you’re not one of those people (I’m not either!). You can always encourage them to seek professional help if needed, and explain that you don’t feel able to handle that kind of stimulation right now.

Boundaries keep us healthy

Y’all meet Polly☺️~

Polly is an 8yo Maltese who was rescued by a local organization after her owner passed away. Despite being both purebred AND an absolute sweetheart, Polly had no applications (likely because of her age). She’s house trained, spayed, good with other animals, and all of her medical care has been paid for by the rescue. To top it all off, her adopt fee was less than a third of the cost of purchasing a puppy from a breeder!

Rescues are overwhelmed this time of the year, as puppies are born and begin to flood every local shelter. However, that means that more often than not older dogs like Polly get overlooked despite being EXCELLENT dogs, especially for those of us not wanting to deal with raising/training a puppy.

Luckily, Polly and her good manners are exactly what I was looking for, so she will be spending her retirement with me and my pack out in the country

If you’re to looking to adopt any time soon, please don’t forget all the lovely, well behaved seniors like Polly out there!

Went on a little movie date w/the hubby and decided to dress decently for once~

Happy pride month!
