#anemia
I’m getting an iron infusion tomorrow then again a week later. Hopefully that will help with my constant need to nap. But the pressure in my head is getting worse. I can’t get an MRI until this Corona shit calms down. In the meantime I’m fucking dying. I don’t know what to do. I need something to help with the pressure and pain. And I’m told to “hang in there”. Fuck you and fuck everyone for punishing me and trying to make me feel bad for attempting suicide.

A year ago today I fainted. I fainted because I hadn’t been taking my iron the way I was supposed to. I hadn’t been taking my iron because no Dr. had ever explained anemia in a way that made it sound important or harmful. So I didn’t think iron was as necessary as it is. My boyfriend got to witness me collapsing onto hot pavement as he drove the car up that I had sent him to fetch so I could get out of the heat. Instead of walking to the car I was half dragged my strangers who thought I had heat stroke. I didn’t wake up until after I had been splashed with water and placed in the car with AC blasting on me. The longest it’s ever taken. If it wasn’t for these strangers I could have ended up in the hospital for severe burns/road rash. After seeking treatment I started researching Anemia on my own & I learned a lot I had never been told before, I scared myself with what I learned. Now a year later, for the first time since I was diagnosed at about 14 years old I can say I’ve taken my iron everyday for the last year. Sometimes we are responsible for finding our own reason for treatment & sticking to it.

Here are my symptoms - some i forgot were symptoms bc ive been anemic my whole life and they’re become my baseline but should go away according to the dr.
1. Fatigue. Ohhh this could make me weep. The bone weary almost too tired to breathe fatigue. No matter how much sleep i get.
2. The insane hair loss. Literal clumps coming out in the shower and blocking the drain so the water cant drain <this is new, this level of hair loss and its scary and i hate it>
3. My body sucks at temperature regulating. Im either freezing (about 90% of the time) or sweating.
4. This is hard to explain but that feeling in my thighs like the muscle is starved of oxygen
5. Weird heartbeat. Sometimes racing, sometimes skipping around - doing its own thing.

8. Anxiety. Brain fog. Shit memory.
9. Tingling in hands n arms randomly.
10. Incessant craving for ice. I would truly eat gravel if I wasn’t such a germaphobe. Its like an itch that needs scratched. I imagine its similar to a pregnancy craving, a craving so deep its in my bones.
11. Becoming suddenly agitated and irritable for no reason.

Last week we did our first blood transfusion in over a year! It was on a teeny hound puppy with anemia from fleas and hookworms. Luthien was our donor! Here she is showing off her clipped spot :)
Alas, I didn’t get permission to post pics of the pupper, but she did well between the transfusion, parasite control, and good supportive care. We’ll see her again soon for her vaccines and to continue with preventatives.
Writers wondering what suffering from anemia can be like? Look no further.
So I suffer from anemia and today (i’m fine now), I realized how scary it can be when you forget to take your iron tablets for a while. My body temperature suddenly dropped and even though I was bundled up in every blanket I could find, layered in sweatpants, a hoodie and fuzzy socks and cranked the heat - I was. still. so. cold. Took me almost 2 hours to feel warm again. I was so pale, literally shivering and my hands were purple and the tips of my fingers were white. And I had no energy. Anemia doesn’t seem all that serious however, something so small, like forgetting to take a pill can have drastic effects on ones health.
Because of the gradual deterioration of body functions in the elderly, special attention should be paid to diet. So what should the elderly pay attention to in their diet? The elderly should pay attention to calcium supplementation, control the intake of salt, and eat more plant-based foods. Let’s take a look at some of the things that the elderly should pay attention to in their diet.
1.prevent obesity
The increase in blood pressure is directly proportional to obesity, and obese people have a high incidence of diabetes. Obesity promotes arteriosclerosis and becomes a cause of heart disease and stroke.
The cause of obesity is due to overeating, the intake of heat energy is more than the heat energy consumed, and the remaining part is transformed into fat accumulated in the body, accumulating day by day, and the chic and neat demeanor in middle-age has gradually become the image of staggering and pot belly.
To prevent obesity, first do not eat too much. The appetite in youth remains the same, but it becomes excessive in middle-aged and elderly people, because activities are reduced correspondingly when you get older, so it is more important to do as much activity as possible and consume excess heat in order to prolong your life.
2. Calcium supplement
Among the foods eaten daily, although the supply of calcium is sufficient in most cases, there are many other factors that affect calcium absorption in the food, such as excessive folic acid in plant leaf stems, and inappropriate calcium-phosphorus ratio; The main reason is that the function of the gastrointestinal tract of the elderly is reduced, and the absorption of calcium is correspondingly reduced. The amount of metabolic excretion does not decrease due to lack of absorption, but increases. It is often difficult for the elderly to heal fractures. Calcium deficiency is a very important factor. Therefore, it is important to increase calcium intake in the food of the elderly.
3. control salt intake
Many countries in the world advocate low-salt diets and try to reduce salt intake. Japan proposes that the appropriate intake of table salt is less than 10 grams. If the body is suitable, 1 gram of intake per day is enough to meet the requirements, but there is no taste when eating.
In the United States, the dietary salt is less than 5 grams. There is currently no standard in our country, but it is imperative to reduce the intake of salt, especially for northern residents who are “heavy” and prefer salty food, so attention should be paid. In fact, this problem should be noticed from the time the children eat, but it is more important for the elderly.
4. prevention of iron deficiency anemia
Since our diet is based on cereals, it is easy to cause insufficient iron supply in the body, and iron deficiency anemia may occur over time.
Especially female anemia is more pronounced, most of which are iron deficiency anemia. Anemia in young women, some people are due to keeping in shape and diet; and a considerable part of it is not eating well, coupled with physiological factors are more prone to anemia. Therefore, middle-aged and elderly people should pay more attention to this topic.
5. Eat more plant-based foods
Animal food contains less cellulose and high saturated fat content, which is not beneficial to the elderly, so the elderly should eat some plant-based foods. Increasing the intake of cellulose has certain significance for preventing constipation and intestinal tumors.
