‘A date with Mr. Nature’

So we hit the boring rainy season again this time of year. It maybe slightly harder for some of us, wanderers, to travel, but hey the rain couldn’t stop me from spinning around the green.

I recently figured out one good spot to spend a day amongst trees without getting wet. It is one of the largest botanical green house in Chiang Mai. There you go I dressed up in chichi ootd with my newest item from Stevie May ‘Hit The Spot Blouse’ in white. The blouse is made from soft dotty tulle fabrics, light and very cooling, hence the humidity can’t stop me from being a romantic boho wanderer.

Deconstructing and Resurrecting Nature with Artist Duy Anh Nhan Duc

(This interview was conducted in French.)

Before sculptor Duy Anh Nhan Duc (@duyanhnhanduc) deconstructs nature, every plant included in a piece is patiently examined. “I put myself at its level,” says the self-taught artist based in Paris. “Whether it’s grass or clover, I will get down on the ground to observe it.” All different plants are used in his sculptures, but his heart leans toward the dandelion. Many people consider it a weed or a nuisance, but from its delicate seed head, Duy Anh can create a soft mandala-like sculpture or the fur of an enormous bear. “It’s a plant that I have wanted to observe and work with since I was very young,” says Duy Anh, who has always been drawn to the dandelion’s fleeting beauty. “It is in dissecting them and rearranging them that inspiration comes,” he says.

Förgätmigej - The Forget Me Not Flower

The name “forget-me-not” comes from the German “Vergissmeinnicht”, which means “don’t forget me”. According to legend, the following event took place in the Middle Ages: A knight and his fiancee walked along a river as he picked up a bouquet of forget-me-nots. Because his armor was so heavy, he fell into the water. Shortly before he drowned, he threw the bouquet to his beloved and shouted “don’t forget me”. The flower is associated with romance and tragic fate. It was often worn by women as a sign of faithfulness and eternal love.

We decided to have our coffee outside in the garden. Best idea ever. I mean it was a bit cold and there were bees buzzing around but the idea of being someone who drinks their coffee outside in a flowery garden sounds like a good one.
